Chapter 1: Shattered Plates and a Daring Dare

The kitchen was a battlefield of empty beer bottles and abandoned pizza boxes, casualties of a night that had long since lost its spark. Charly leaned against the counter, his tie loosened and his shirt wrinkled, the low thrum of house music still vibrating in his chest. He glanced around the room, the overhead light casting harsh shadows on the cluttered table. Sara stood by the sink, her arms crossed and her dark eyes stormy, a silent tempest brewing in her stance. She looked at him like he was the last person she wanted to see.

Jorge sat slumped at the table, his fingers tracing the rim of his beer bottle like he was reading Braille. His face was etched with the kind of weary sadness only a recent divorce could carve. He looked up as Charly approached, offering a weak smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Hey, man,” Jorge muttered, his voice hoarse. “Thanks for having me over." Charly clapped him on the shoulder, a little too hard, a little too loud. “Rough night, buddy?” Jorge managed a nod, but his gaze drifted toward Sara, lingering a beat too long. Charly didn’t notice, or maybe he didn’t want to. He grabbed a beer from the fridge and popped the cap with a flourish. Sara slammed a ceramic plate onto the counter, the force of it making Charly jump. “I can't do this anymore, Charly,” she snapped, her voice sharp enough to cut glass. "Tonight it was like I didn't exist to you." She glared at him, her hands on her hips, daring him to argue.

Sara stared at the mess, her chest heaving, her anger palpable. Charly sighed, running a hand through his thinning hair. “Here we go again,” he muttered. “What is it this time, Sara? Another imaginary slight?" Sara’s voice dripped with a venom Charly hadn’t heard in years. “No, Charly, it's not imaginary. You have ignored me all night. Always glued to your phone. At least Jorge sees me, Charly, even after all he's going through" she said, her tone icy. “He asks about my day. He remembers my favorite wine.” She shot Charly a look that could’ve melted steel, her frustration boiling over.

Charly knelt to pick up the shards of the broken plate, his fingers brushing against the jagged edges. "Fuck!" he muttered, wincing as a shard sliced his finger. He sucked the blood from the cut, his eyes narrowing as he glared up at her. “I do my best, you know? Work my ass off so you can have all this, your pottery classes, your lifestyle,” he said, gesturing around the expensively decorated kitchen. His voice was tight, like a rubber band about to snap.

Sara scoffed, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. “Your ‘best’ isn’t enough, Charly. It’s not enough anymore,” she shot back, her voice laced with disdain. "I need more, Charly" Her gaze softened as she turned to Jorge, who was sitting awkwardly at the table. “Someone that makes me feel seen and understood, why can't you be more like Jorge?,” she said quietly, almost wistfully.

Charly barked out a laugh, incredulous. “Jorge? Seriously, Sara? He’s practically catatonic from his divorce. He’s hardly husband material right now,” he said, smirking. He leaned back against the counter, crossing his arms like he’d just won the argument. His tone was mocking, but there was a flicker of unease in his eyes.

Sara’s lips curved into a dangerous smile, her eyes glinting with mischief. “I wouldn't be so sure about that, Charly. He’s always been a good listener, way better than you anyway,” she said, her voice smooth. She took a step closer to Charly, her heels clicking against the tile floor. “In fact, let’s find out. Why don't we play a game?" she proposed, her tone light but her gaze sharp.

Charly raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite himself. “A game?” he asked, his voice cautious. Sara stepped even closer, her perfume wrapping around him like a challenge. “Yeah, how about we switch roles? Tonight, Jorge is my husband, and you’re just the visiting friend,” she said, her words dripping with confidence. She tilted her head, waiting for his reaction.

Jorge looked up, startled, his beer bottle slipping slightly in his hand. “Wait, what? I didn’t sign up for this, I don't want to get between you two, guys,” he said, his voice shaky. Sara ignored him, her gaze locked on Charly like she was waiting for him to back down. Charly hesitated, a flicker of doubt crossing his face. "And what would you exactly do with him?" he asked, trying to sound casual but failing.

Sara shrugged, feigning nonchalance as she walked over to the fridge. “Oh, just the usual married couple stuff. Dinner, conversation, maybe a movie with a friend that has come visit us,” she said, pulling out a bottle of wine. She glanced over her shoulder at Charly, her eyes flashing with challenge. "What? Are you afraid I might actually prefer him?" She paused, her voice dropping to a whisper. Charly’s ego flared, his jaw tightening as he straightened up. “Afraid? Please,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "It's Jorge..." He smirked, gesturing toward Jorge with a flourish. "By the time we're done, you'll be begging to return to me." His tone was smug, but there was a hint of uncertainty underneath.

Sara rolled her eyes and threw a dish towel at Charly’s head. “Ok, you’re on, Charly, no backing out now” she said, her voice sharp but playful.” She turned to Jorge, placing a hand on his arm with a warm smile. “So, Jorge, what do you say? Are you up to play?"

Jorge froze, his beer bottle halfway to his lips, as the tension between Charly and Sara crackled like a live wire. He cleared his throat awkwardly, setting the bottle down with a soft clink. "I don't know guys..."He pushed back from the table, the legs of his chair scraping against the floor. " I think I should get going." His eyes darted to the door, desperate for an escape route.

Sara’s grip tightened on Jorge’s arm, her smile unwavering but her fingers digging in just enough to make him stay. “Nonsense, Jorge,” she said, her voice light but firm. “It’ll be fun! Besides, who knows?” She winked at him, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "We might enjoy it more than we thought." Her tone was teasing, but there was a challenge in her gaze that made Jorge’s stomach twist.

Charly watched them, his arms crossed over his chest, a strange mix of jealousy and amusement swirling in his gut. He couldn’t believe Sara was actually serious about this ridiculous game. "Sure, let's do it man, see if you can get through the night without her nagging you with some stupid thing." His voice was laced with sarcasm. "But there should be some rules for this." He shot Sara a pointed look, his jaw tight.

Sara’s smile widened, her eyes gleaming with anticipation like a cat about to pounce. “Of course, there are rules,” she purred, leaning closer to Jorge. “Rule number one: no holding back. Jorge and I will act like we're married, and you'll be the visiting friend who is going through a rough time.” She winked at him again, her tone playful but her words loaded with meaning. "Until we all agree this is over, it won't be over, deal?" Her gaze lingered on his face, daring him to back down.

Jorge swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry as he glanced between Sara and Charly. He could feel the undercurrent of tension, the years of pent-up frustrations simmering beneath the surface. This was a recipe for disaster, but something about Sara’s dare intrigued him. “Okay,” he said slowly, his voice gaining a hint of confidence. "Let's see where this goes..." He leaned back in his chair, trying to look more relaxed than he felt.

"Fine, let's set some ground rules then, because I'm not just gonna sit here and watch you two fuck." He tossed a grape into his mouth, chewing it angrily.

Sara raised an eyebrow, a slow smile spreading across her face. "Now, now, Charly. Where's that open mind of yours? Besides, you're not meant to watch us fuck," she said, her voice dripping with innuendo. "You're supposed to be the third wheel. The friend who stays up late, drinking and talking shit about his ex. That's your role, we wouldn't want you watching use have intimacy, of course!" Sara said, smirking at Charly. She poured herself a glass of wine and slid into the seat next to Jorge, her long legs crossed and a sensual curve to her lips. Charly watched, his eyes burning with a mixture of jealousy and desire. He was in unfamiliar territory, his ego bruised and his libido stirring.

"So, what do you want to do first, husband?" Sara purred, leaning in to whisper in Jorge's ear.

The kitchen was a mess of empty beer bottles, pizza crusts, and the faint scent of burnt popcorn lingering in the air. Jorge sat at the table, his fingers nervously drumming against the wood, while Sara leaned against the counter, her arms crossed and her eyes sharp. Charly stood by the fridge, his tie loosened and his face flushed, clearly annoyed. The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife, and Jorge felt like he was sitting in the middle of a ticking time bomb.

Jorge cleared his throat, his voice shaky. "Uh, what do you want to do, Sara?" he asked, his eyes darting between her and Charly. Sara’s lips curved into a sly smile, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she stepped closer to Jorge. "Let's watch a movie!" she suggested, her voice soft but laced with challenge. "Cuddle up on the sofa under a blanket, like a real couple." She glanced at Charly, her gaze daring him to object.

Charly scoffed, rolling his eyes as he grabbed the remote and plopped down in the armchair. "Sure, knock yourselves out," he muttered, his tone dripping with sarcasm. He flicked through the channels, his jaw tight as he tried to ignore the way Sara was looking at Jorge. "I’ll just chill here," he added, though his grip on the remote betrayed his unease.

Sara moved to the sofa, throwing a thick knitted blanket over the back before sitting down. "Come on, Jorge," she said, patting the cushion beside her, her voice warm and inviting. Jorge hesitated for a moment, glancing at Charly before awkwardly sitting down, leaving a noticeable gap between them. Sara playfully nudged him closer, her shoulder brushing against his. "Don’t be shy," she whispered, her breath warm against his ear. "We’re married, remember?"

As the movie started—a rom-com Sara had picked—Jorge still felt tense, acutely aware of Charly’s eyes on them. Sara, however, seemed completely at ease, snuggling closer to Jorge under the blanket. She rested her head on his shoulder, her hair tickling his neck, and let out a soft sigh. Charly watched from the armchair, a knot forming in his stomach as he saw them getting closer. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was witnessing something he shouldn’t be.

The scene on the screen was a blur to Charly as his attention kept drifting to Sara and Jorge. Sara’s hand rested casually on Jorge’s thigh under the blanket, her fingers occasionally twitching as if she was fighting the urge to move them higher. Jorge’s arm was draped loosely around Sara’s shoulders, and he seemed more relaxed now, his body leaning into hers. Charly’s jaw tightened as he watched them, his grip on the beer bottle in his hand turning white-knuckled.

By the time the credits rolled, Sara and Jorge were practically intertwined, their laughter echoing through the kitchen. Sara’s hand was now resting higher on Jorge’s thigh, her fingers tracing lazy circles that sent shivers down his spine. Jorge’s arm had tightened around her shoulders, pulling her closer as they shared a joke. Charly stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. "Right," he said, his voice strained. "I’m gonna grab another beer. Anyone want one?" Sara stretched languidly, her eyes sparkling as she turned to Jorge. "No thanks, Charly," she said, her voice soft and intimate. "Maybe later." She glanced at Charly, her smile widening. "But you go ahead, Charly. Don’t let us stop you from enjoying yourself." Her words were innocent enough, but her tone was laced with a subtle mockery that made Charly’s blood boil.

As Charly reached for the fridge, he couldn’t help but notice the way Sara was looking at Jorge, her eyes filled with a warmth and affection he hadn’t seen directed at him in years. Jorge seemed to be basking in her attention, his face relaxed and happy as he leaned in to whisper something in her ear. They were lost in their own little world, oblivious to Charly’s presence.

Charly slammed the fridge door shut, the noise echoing through the kitchen. "So," he said, his voice louder than necessary. "What’s next on the agenda? Another movie? Maybe a romantic dinner for two?" He glared at Sara, his eyes narrowed. "Or are you gonna skip straight to dessert?"

Sara’s smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. "Don’t be crude, Charly, you're our guest, remember?" Sara said, her voice serene. But her eyes held a defiant glint, and she didn’t move away from Jorge. If anything, she pressed closer, her hand inching higher on Jorge’s thigh. Jorge’s breath hitched slightly at her touch, his eyes flicking to Charly before returning to Sara.

Charly clenched his jaw, the vein in his neck pulsing. “Right, I’m the guest,” he muttered, taking a long swig of his beer. “Fucking hilarious.” He paced the kitchen, his steps heavy and deliberate. “You know what, fuck it. If you two want to play house, then go ahead. I'm not stopping you." Charly's voice was thick with anger and something else, something primal that made the air in the room crackle with tension. His eyes were locked onto the way Sara's hand was inching higher up Jorge's thigh, and the sight of it was both infuriating and arousing. He took another long swig of his beer, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed.

Sara stretched languidly, her arms arching above her head as her breasts pressed against the soft fabric of her top. The movement was deliberate, her body language dripping with a quiet, unspoken invitation. She stifled a yawn, her lips parting slightly as she turned her gaze to Jorge, her eyes warm and teasing. "I think I'm gonna call it a night and go to bed," she murmured, her voice low and husky, the kind of tone that made the air in the room feel heavier. “I’m actually exhausted.” She said, squeezing Jorge's leg complicitely. Her touch lingered, her nails digging into his leg just enough to make his breath hitch.

Charly choked on his beer, the liquid spilling down his chin as he slammed the bottle onto the counter. “Wait, what? Bed?” he sputtered, his voice sharp with disbelief. His eyes darted between Sara and Jorge, his chest tightening as he caught the way she was looking at Jorge—like he was the only man in the room. "Are you going to bed with him?" he protested, though his words sounded hollow even to himself. He could feel the control slipping from his grasp, and it made his skin prickle with irritation. “Come on, Sara, you can’t just—”

Sara turned to him, her expression cool and condescending, her lips curling into a smirk that made Charly’s stomach churn. “Charly, darling,” she interrupted, her voice syrupy sweet but laced with a cutting edge, “remember the rules?” She emphasized the word, letting it hang in the air like a slap. "You are our guest, so don't be rude." She paused, her eyes locking onto his with a steely glint. "We're going to bed, but you can stay in the sofa if you want." The finality in her voice left no room for argument, and Charly felt his jaw clench as he struggled to find a retort.

Jorge shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his cheeks flushing as he glanced between Sara and Charly. The tension in the room was palpable, and he could feel the weight of Charly’s resentful stare burning into him. His cock stirred at Sara’s touch, her fingers still pressed firmly against his thigh, and he swallowed hard, trying to mask his growing arousal. “Uh…” he stammered, his voice shaky, “I guess I’ll…” He trailed off, unsure of how to navigate the increasingly awkward situation. Sara’s hand moved slightly higher on his leg, her nails grazing the inseam of his jeans, and he felt a jolt of heat shoot through him.

Sara stood up gracefully, extending her hand to Jorge with a seductive smile that made his heart race. “Come on, honey,” she purred, her voice low and intimate, like a secret meant only for him. She tugged gently on his arm, her eyes dark with promise. "I'm super tired, but still have some energy left..." Her tone was teasing, but there was an underlying challenge in her words that made Jorge’s pulse quicken.

Jorge hesitated, his hand hovering just inches from Sara’s. He could feel Charly’s eyes burning into the back of his skull, the weight of his simmering rage hanging heavy in the air. Sara’s fingers twitched, her nails painted a deep crimson that matched the flush creeping up her neck. “Come on, husband,” she murmured, her voice low and sultry, like a secret meant only for him. He swallowed hard, his throat dry, and finally took her hand, telling himself it was just a game, a way to tease Charly and nothing more.

Charly leaned back in the armchair, a smug grin spreading across his face as he watched Sara and Jorge disappear down the hallway. He took a long swig of his beer, the bitter liquid doing little to calm the storm brewing in his chest. “Have fun, you two,” he called out, his voice dripping with sarcasm. He chuckled to himself, convinced it was just a matter of time before Sara came back asking if he learned his lesson. Settling deeper into the chair, he flipped through the channels, his mind already drifting to the moment they’d emerge, laughing at their little joke.

He should have known better. He should have known Sara. He didn’t realize how long he had been lost in thought until he heard the soft murmurs from the bedroom down the hall. His ears pricked up, the beer bottle paused halfway to his lips.

The murmurs turned into soft giggles, and he strained to make out the words. He couldn’t, but the tone was unmistakable. Sara’s voice, playful yet seductive, was markedly different from the sharp, almost venomous tone she had used earlier. He could picture her teasing Jorge, her hands running through his hair, her laughter filling the room.

He tried to focus on the TV, but the muffled sounds from the bedroom kept pulling his attention away. The laughter turned into soft moans, and Charly’s grip on the beer bottle tightened until his knuckles turned white. He tried to tell himself it was just a game, that they were teasing him and that Sara would be back any minute, laughing and holding Jorge’s hand. But the sounds from the bedroom were getting louder, more urgent.

Charly muted the TV, his heart pounding in his chest. He stood up, the chair screeching against the floor, and took a step toward the hallway. He paused, his hand on the doorframe, listening.

The sounds from the bedroom were unmistakable now—the soft rustle of fabric, moans that were no longer disguised as laughter, the low murmur of words he couldn't quite make out. His breath hitched in his chest, and he felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to see what was happening behind that closed door.

But as his hand reached for the knob, he hesitated, his fingers faltering. The thought of interrupting something intimate between Sara and Jorge made him feel like an intruder, a voyeur. He was confused, his mind racing with a mix of jealousy, anger, and a strange, unwelcome arousal. He knew he should interrupt this game, but he was afraid it would turn Sara even more against him.

As his hand hovered over the door handle, he felt a strange, inexplicable urge to turn away, to let it play out. He didn’t understand why, but he decided to go back to the sofa and try to sleep, convinced that by the next morning, everything would return to normal. Sara would admit that she was just faking everything to make him jealous, and they would all have a good laugh about it. He could already see the scene in his mind—Sara waving her hands in the air, her eyes sparkling with mischief, and Jorge laughing heartily, his head thrown back in amusement. He clung to that image, letting it guide him back to the sofa.

Charly sprawled out on the couch, trying to make himself comfortable despite the pit of unease in his stomach. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV, flipping through the channels with a determined lack of interest.

Charly's eyes felt heavy, the day's events finally catching up with him. The laughter and soft moans from the bedroom faded into the background, becoming a part of the ambient noise that lulled him into a sense of normalcy. He was convinced it was all just a game, a ploy to make him jealous and teach him a lesson. Smiling to himself, he settled deeper into the cushions, pulling the throw blanket up to his chin. The sounds from the bedroom continued, but they were no longer disturbing. Instead, they became a soothing backdrop, a testament to Sara's playful nature and their enduring relationship.

As Charly slowly drifted off to sleep, he could still hear the faint echoes of their laughter and the occasional muffled moan. He chuckled softly, the warmth of the blanket and the drowsiness of the alcohol making him feel content.
