Chapter 3: The Frostsaber's Den
The silence after his ‘yes’ was total. The forest held its breath. Her tears were cold on his thumbs.
Then she moved. She kissed him, hard and desperate, her hands fisting in the front of his shirt. It was a claiming, an affirmation. When she broke away, her breath ragged, the old smirk was back, but it was softer at the edges. “Then we need to get out of this gods-damned clearing before we freeze solid in this touching moment. I know a place.”
She dressed with swift, efficient movements, her armor clicking into place like a second skin. Alex did the same, his fingers clumsy with cold and a lingering sense of unreality. She was staying. She was with him. The concept was too vast to hold.
She led the way, moving through the pines with a predator’s silence. He followed, his human tread clumsy in comparison. They traveled east, away from his usual traplines, into a steep, rocky ravine where the snow was shallower but the wind cut like a blade. The sound of crashing water grew, a deep-throated roar that vibrated in his chest.
A frozen waterfall filled the end of the ravine, a monumental cascade of blue-white ice, silent and still in the cold. It looked like a dead end.
Alyna didn’t slow. She skirted the icy pool at its base and ducked behind a curtain of massive, spear-like icicles. He followed, squeezing through a narrow gap where the rock met the ice.
The world changed.
The roar of the waterfall became a muffled, echoing rumble. They were in a cave, hidden completely behind the frozen curtain. Light filtered through the ice in distorted, glacial blues, illuminating a space about the size of a small cottage. The air was still, several degrees warmer, smelling of cold stone and old woodsmoke.
It was clearly a den. A stack of dry firewood was neatly piled against one wall. Thick furs—sabercat, worg, bear—were spread over a flat stone shelf that served as a bed. A small, blackened fire pit sat in the center, with a clever smoke channel carved upward through a crack in the ceiling. A few simple supplies were stashed in a niche: clay jars, a tin cup, a whetstone.
“Home sweet hole in the ground,” Alyna said, her voice echoing softly. She shrugged off her pack and began building a fire in the pit with quick, practiced hands. “One of a few. Figured you’d appreciate not sleeping in the snow for a night.”
“This is incredible,” Alex murmured, turning in a slow circle. The ice-wall glowed, a natural lantern.
“It’s dry. That’s what matters.” The tinder caught, and she nursed a small flame to life, adding careful pieces of kindling. The fire grew, its warm, orange light fighting the blue chill of the cave. It painted her in new colors, gilding her skin, deepening the shadows in the hollows of her cheeks.
She stood up and faced him. The playfulness faded, replaced by a seriousness that made his stomach tighten. The fire crackled between them.
“Last chance to back out,” she said. Her voice was low, no trace of a joke. “Out there, that was words. This,” she gestured at the furs, the fire, the seclusion, “is where words become actions. Where things get… real.”
“I’m not backing out.” His own voice sounded steadier than he felt.
She held his gaze for a long moment, then nodded, once. “Okay.”
She began to unbuckle her armor. This time it wasn’t for warmth. It was a ritual. Each piece—the chestplate, the bracers, the greaves—was removed with deliberate care and set aside with a soft clink. The quilted under-padding followed. Then the linen wrap. She stood before him in just her leggings, the firelight dancing over the toned muscles of her stomach and chest. She was breathtaking. And she was watching him watch her.
Her fingers hooked in the waistband of her leggings. She pushed them down over her hips, stepping out of them. She kicked them aside.
And there she was. Fully revealed. No storm, no desperate cold to blame. Just her, in the shared warmth of a hidden cave.
His breath caught. It wasn’t just the sheer, unexpected size of her, already thickening and lifting from its soft state against her thigh. It was the totality of her. The powerful lines of her body, the elegant arc of her hip bones, the thatch of blonde hair. The proud, unapologetic presentation. She was like a figure from an old, wild myth. Something not meant for tame hearts.
She was fully erect now, the size undeniable, thick and long and curving slightly upward. A prominent vein ran along the underside. She made no move to cover herself. This was her. The question hung in the air, heavier than any she’d voiced.
“I want to claim you, Alex,” she said, the words quiet but absolute. “I want you to be mine. In every way this,” she glanced down at herself, a wry twist to her lips, “unconventional setup allows.” She took a step closer. The firelight shimmered on her skin. “You need to understand. It won’t be like the stories. There will be a… an immense, searing pain at the start. My body wasn’t built for this. I have to be careful, and slow, and it will still hurt like hellfire before it becomes anything else.” She stopped an arm’s length away. Her green eyes were fierce, protective. “Think. Really think. Do you want this? With me?”
He had thought of little else since the tent. The fear was there, a cold knot in his gut. The sheer physical impossibility of it taunted him. But looking at her—not just at her body, but at her face, at the vulnerable hope bravely masked as defiance—the fear shrank. It was swallowed by a wave of something louder. Want. Awe. A fierce, protectiveness of his own.
“Yes,” he said again. “I want you. All of you.”
A shudder ran through her. The bravado finally, fully cracked. Raw need shone through. “Lie down,” she whispered, pointing to the bed of furs.
He obeyed, sinking onto the soft, dense pelts. The fur was cold beneath his back, but his skin was already heating. She approached, kneeling over him, a silhouette against the flickering fire. She didn’t touch him yet. Her eyes drank him in as he lay there, clothed, vulnerable.
“Let me see you,” she said, her voice husky.
He stripped, his movements awkward, his fingers fumbling with buttons. The cave air was cool on his skin. He felt exposed, slender and boyish next to her warrior’s physique. Her gaze was a physical touch, roaming over him, lingering on his own erection, which pulsed insistently against his stomach.
“Beautiful,” she murmured, and the word, so simple, so sincere, unknotted the last of his tension.
She leaned down, but not to kiss his mouth. Her lips trailed down his chest, his stomach. Her hair whispered over his skin. He gasped when her tongue flicked out, tracing the line of his hip bone. Then she took him into her mouth.
The heat was shocking, sublime. Her mouth was clever, passionate, her tongue swirling, her lips creating a perfect, wet pressure. It was overwhelming. His back arched, a groan ripped from his throat. His hands flew to her hair, tangling in the golden strands.
She worked him with a focused intensity, humming softly, her own needs momentarily set aside for his pleasure. It was a gift. A claiming in reverse. She was showing him she knew how to give, how to worship. His thoughts scattered into bright, helpless fragments. The world was her mouth, her hands on his thighs, the smell of fur and her skin.
He was close, too close, teetering on the edge. She felt it. She pulled off with a soft, wet sound, leaving him throbbing and desperate. “Not yet,” she breathed, her own breathing ragged. She kissed his inner thigh, a soft, apologetic press. “My turn.”
She guided him onto his stomach. The furs were soft against his cheek. He heard her move behind him, the sound of a jar being opened. A slick, cool liquid dripped onto the small of his back. Her hands, now slick, began to massage him. Strong, knowing fingers worked the muscles of his buttocks, then pressed deeper, rubbing circles against a place that made him jolt with a strange, unfamiliar sensitivity.
“Relax,” she soothed, one hand splayed on the small of his back. “Just breathe. Let me in.”
He tried. He focused on the sound of the fire, the distant rumble of water. Her finger, slick and insistent, pressed against him. The intrusion was foreign, a sharp, stretching pressure. He tensed.
“Shhh,” she whispered, stilling. “Breathe out.” He exhaled, and she pushed slowly inward. It burned. Not terribly, but enough to make him gasp. She worked her finger gently, an inexorable, gradual invasion, letting his body adjust to the shocking sensation. Then a second finger, stretching him further. The burn intensified into a deep, aching fullness. He buried his face in the fur, his fingers clutching at the pelt.
“You’re doing so well,” she murmured, her voice thick with praise and restraint. “Just a little more.”
She withdrew her fingers. The emptiness was brief. He felt the broad, blunt head of her press where her fingers had been. It was impossibly larger. Hotter.
“Now,” she said, and the word was a strained plea. “This is where it hurts. Don’t tense. Push back against me, just a little, when you breathe out. Trust me.”
He didn’t know if he could. Every instinct screamed to clench, to resist. He focused on her hand on his back, the anchor of her touch.
She pushed forward.
A white-hot lance of pain seared through him. He cried out, a strangled sound swallowed by the fur. It was splitting, a feeling of being torn open. His vision swam. Tears leaked from his eyes.
She stopped immediately, buried only an inch inside. She was panting, trembling with the effort of holding still. “Breathe,” she ground out. “Just breathe. The worst is over. It gets better. I promise.”
He believed her. He had to. He dragged air into his lungs, forcing his muscles to unclench. The pain was still a bright, terrible star, but it began to recede, changing, becoming a throbbing, stretched-to-the-limit fullness.
“Again,” he whispered, his voice raw.
She moved. Another slow, inexorable inch. The burn was fierce, but different. A stretch so profound it skirted the edges of pleasure. Another inch. He moaned, the sound equal parts pain and shock. He could feel her, inside him, a solid, claiming presence. It was the most intimate thing he’d ever experienced.
She was fully sheathed. They were still, joined. Her weight settled over him, her chest pressed to his back, her face buried in his neck. She was shaking. “By the Sunwell,” she choked out. “You feel… Alex.”
He felt full to bursting. The initial blinding pain had muted into a deep, aching pressure that was already, impossibly, sparking with something else. A latent heat. A sense of rightness that bypassed logic.
She began to move. Withdrawing slowly, an agonizing drag that made him whimper, then pressing back in with that same relentless control. Each stroke reignited the burn, but beneath it, a new sensation bloomed. A fierce, building pleasure that seemed to originate from the same overwhelmed nerve endings. It was too much. It was everything.
Her thrusts grew bolder, deeper, finding a rhythm. The slick sounds of their joining mixed with their harsh breaths and the fire’s crackle, echoing off the cave walls. She moaned, a low, broken sound, her hips pistoning against him. Her control was fraying.
The pain was now just a shadow, a memory under a crescendo of startling, unbelievable pleasure. Each deep drive brushed a place inside him that sent lightning up his spine. He was hard again, aching against the furs. He pushed back to meet her, a wordless plea for more.
“Mine,” she snarled into his ear, her voice guttural, possessive. “You’re mine.” Her hand snaked under him, finding his length, stroking him in time with her thrusts.
The dual sensation shattered him. The world dissolved into a cascade of feeling—the deep, filling stretch of her, the tight friction of her hand, the scrape of her teeth on his shoulder. He came with a shout that echoed off the ice walls, his body convulsing around her, milking her own release.
She cried out, a sharp, elven syllable that was pure surrender. He felt her throb inside him, a series of hot pulses, as her body locked and shuddered above him. She collapsed onto his back, a dead weight, her breaths coming in ragged, hot bursts against his skin.
They lay like that, a tangled, sweating heap in the furs, for a long time. The fire settled to coals. The rumble of the waterfall was the only sound.
Slowly, carefully, she pulled out. The sensation was strange, a loss of fullness. She rolled onto her side, pulling him with her, wrapping herself around him from behind just as they’d slept in the snow. Her arm was a heavy, comfortable weight across his chest. Her lips found the nape of his neck.
“Okay?” she mumbled, her voice thick with exhaustion and something like worry.
He was sore in places he didn’t know could be sore. His body felt utterly rewritten. He felt raw, open, and more at peace than he ever had. “Yeah,” he breathed. “Okay.”
She held him tighter. “Good.”
They drifted in the warm, quiet dark. His mind, finally quiet, began to put pieces together. The cave. The supplies. Her familiarity.
“You live here,” he said softly, not a question.
Her arm tightened minutely. “Sometimes. When I don’t want to be found. When the city gets… loud.”
He understood. The glances. The whispers. This hidden cave was her sanctuary. And she’d brought him into it.
He turned in her arms to face her. In the dim light, her eyes were drowsy, sated. He cupped her cheek. “Thank you.”
She searched his face, looking for any trace of regret, of horror. She found none. A slow, genuine smile, tired and unguarded, spread across her face. It was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
“Don’t thank me yet,” she said, her voice a sleepy murmur. “You’re going to be walking funny tomorrow. And we still have to figure out what ‘being with you’ looks like when we’re not in a cave behind a waterfall.”
The practicalities loomed—their races, the world, the looming threat of the orc warband. But here, in the warm dark, with her skin against his, those problems felt distant. Manageable.
“We will,” he said, and for the first time, he believed it completely.
She kissed him, a soft, lingering press of lips. “Sleep, Alex. I’ve got you.”
He did. And for the first time in his lonely life, he felt, truly and completely, held.
