Chapter 7: Morning Afterfall
I woke to the scent of his skin and the deep, steady thump of his heart under my ear. My face was pressed to the hot plane of his chest. My body was curled into his, one of my slender thighs thrown over his, an arm draped across his stomach. The morning light was a brutal, clarifying gold, painting every detail in high relief.
And he was still inside me.
Not hard, but present, a soft, thick weight that made my insides feel occupied even in sleep. The fullness was a dull, persistent ache. A different ache throbbed between my legs, a used, stretched feeling that was entirely new. I was hyper-aware of the sticky dampness on my inner thighs, the crusted patch on the sheets beneath us.
My mind, usually a whirlwind upon waking, was a blank, white sheet. Then the memory descended, not in thoughts, but in cascading sense-memory: the burning stretch, the grinding rhythm, the choked cry, the taste of his mouth.
A flush of pure heat swept from my scalp to my toes. Shame. Arousal. Confusion so thick I could taste it, coppery and sour at the back of my throat.
He stirred beneath me. A deep inhale made his chest rise, shifting me. I felt him wake, felt the moment his consciousness clicked into place and registered our position. His body tensed, then deliberately relaxed.
His hand, which had been splayed on the small of my back, slid up. The path his fingers took over the ridge of my spine, the delicate knob of each vertebra under this thinner skin, was agonizingly slow. His palm settled between my shoulder blades, holding me there. Trapping me in the evidence.
He groaned, a rough, sleep-ravaged sound. “Justin.”
Hearing my name in that context, in that voice, with his softening cock nestled inside a body that wasn’t mine, broke something open. A sharp tremor ran through me.
“We need to talk about this,” he said, his voice a gravelly rumble I felt through his chest.
His other hand moved. It came up and over, his fingers skimming the side of my ribcage—so easily spanning the narrow cage—before his palm settled, heavy and warm, over my right breast. He filled his hand with it. A thumb, calloused and broad, swept back and forth over the nipple. It puckered instantly, a sharp, aching point of sensation that drew a tight line straight to my groin.
A sound escaped me, a whimper that was this voice’s native language. My hips gave a minute, involuntary twitch against him, and I felt him stir in response, beginning to thicken again within me.
“Or,” I whispered, the word barely audible, “we can not talk.”
I pushed myself up. The movement made my breasts sway, a heavy, pendulous jiggle that still startled me. The morning light gilded my pale skin, my tangled blonde hair. I saw myself reflected in the dark expanse of the window: a slender, wanton thing atop a powerful man. The visual disconnect—that is me—was briefly dizzying.
I looked down at his face. His expression was unreadable, a mix of fatigue, concern, and a dark, focused hunger. Keeping my eyes locked on his, I shifted, rising up just enough to let him slip almost entirely out, then sinking back down in a slow, controlled descent.
This was different. Without the cloak of night and stolen urgency, everything was amplified. I saw the flinch in his jaw as the head pushed past my entrance. I felt the exquisite, burning stretch anew, a full, claiming pressure that made my breath hitch. The slide was wetter, easier, but no less overwhelming. I took him all, until I was seated fully, our bodies joined.
“Okay,” he breathed, his hands coming to rest on my hips, not guiding, just holding. “We won’t talk.”
This time was a slow, deep exploration. A grinding, circular rhythm that seemed to seek out every secret, trembling corner of this new body. The pleasure was less sharp, more oceanic—a deep, rolling wave that built from my core. His hands roamed my back, my ass, the dramatic dip of my waist. He watched me, his gaze tracing the flutter of my lashes, the part of my lips, the frantic jump of the pulse in my throat.
The emotional weight of it was a physical thing, a stone on my sternum. This was Mark. My best friend. I was inside a woman’s body, and he was inside me. The bizarre intimacy of it was more penetrating than flesh. Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, blurring his face. I couldn’t tell if they were from shame, pleasure, or the sheer, catastrophic strangeness of it all.
He sat up suddenly, wrapping his arms around me, crushing me to his chest. The change in angle drove him deeper. He held me there, buried to the hilt, his face in the crook of my neck. He began to move, short, powerful thrusts from below that lifted me effortlessly.
“Look at me,” he grunted.
I forced my eyes open. His were dark, intense, fixed on mine. We moved together in the silent, sunlit room, the only sounds our ragged breathing and the soft, wet slide of skin. The coil in my belly wound tighter, tighter. It wasn’t the shocking detonation of the night before. This was a cresting, a gradual overflow. I came with a broken sigh, my internal muscles clutching him in a series of long, pulsing spasms that seemed to draw his own release from him. He stifled a groan against my shoulder, his body locking, pouring heat into me.
We stayed like that for a long time, glued together by sweat and spend. Finally, he softened and slipped out. A rush of fluid followed, a warm trickle down my inner thigh. The reality of it was obscenely concrete.
He collapsed back onto the pillows, dragging me down with him. I lay on him, feeling ravaged, hollowed out, and profoundly confused.
“Shower,” he said eventually, his voice raw. “We both need a shower.”
He stood, a giant of a man, and scooped me up as if I weighed nothing. My frame, a foot shorter and a hundred pounds lighter, fit against him like a child’s. He carried me into the bathroom, a marble cavern, and set me on my feet.
The spray was hot, a near-scalding torrent. He soaped me with a clinical thoroughness, his big hands moving over the contours of this borrowed body. He washed my hair, his fingers massaging my scalp, and I had to brace my hands against the tile to stay upright under the simple, devastating pleasure of it.
Then he left me there, wrapping himself in a towel. “Take your time.”
The moment the glass door shut, the performance ended. I was alone with the body.
I looked down. Water streamed over the hills and valleys of me. My breasts, sluiced with water, the nipples tight and pink. The narrow ladder of my ribs. The shocking concavity of my stomach. The flare of my hips. And between them, the dark blonde triangle, and the lips beneath, swollen and tender.
My hands, with their chipped pink polish, looked alien. I touched my stomach. The skin was impossibly soft. I cupped a breast. The weight was solid, the texture a strange blend of firm and yielding. My thumb brushed the nipple and a jolt went straight to my core, which clenched, empty.
I trailed my fingers lower, through the slick hair, over the swollen flesh. Parting myself. Exploring. The sensations were unbearably direct, a live wire connected to my brain. I found the small, hypersensitive nub and touched it, a light, circling pressure.
A gasp echoed off the marble. My knees buckled. I braced an arm against the wall, head bowed, as I touched myself with a frantic, clinical curiosity. I was chasing the ghost of the feeling, trying to understand the mechanics of it. My body responded with ruthless efficiency, warming, tightening, another quick, sharp climax ripping through me with silent, shuddering intensity.
This wasn’t pleasure. It was an autopsy. I was mapping a foreign landscape, and every discovery felt like a violation.
I turned my face into the spray, washing away tears that couldn’t be distinguished from the shower. I was clean, but I felt dirtier than ever. The water pooled at my feet, swirling around my size-five feet before disappearing down the drain.
When I stepped out, wobbly, and wrapped myself in a towel, I could hear him moving in the bedroom. The world outside this suite of rooms was waiting. Jasmine’s unopened letters were on the nightstand. My old life was ashes.
I had crossed a line with my best friend, and my body remembered the path with terrifying clarity. I looked at my reflection in the fogged mirror—the huge blue eyes, the plush, kiss-bruised lips, the face of a beautiful, terrified stranger.
The narrative was no longer about getting back. It was about navigating the terrifying, sensuous prison of the now. And I had no idea what the next line of the script would be.
