Chapter 11: Leo's Unexpected Evolution

The silence in Marcus’s childhood bedroom was a living thing now, a creature made of dust motes and regret. It pressed against his eardrums. He lay frozen on the bed, the sweatshirt fabric rough against his sensitized skin, and stared at the ceiling where the glow-in-the-dark stars had long since faded to inert plastic. His body thrummed with a low, residual frequency, a cellular memory of pleasure that felt like a stolen car parked in his garage. He couldn’t look at it, this new body. Not yet. But he could feel it, every inch a traitor and a testament.

Down the hall, in the flickering amber of Lara’s room, the silence was of a different breed. It was the breathless, humid pause between heartbeats.

Lara moved above him, a silhouette cut from candlelight and want. Her Pilates-honed muscles corded with each slow, deliberate roll of her hips. Leo watched her, his hands resting tentatively on her waist, as if she were made of blown glass. He was still afraid of his own strength, of the new, brutal power in his limbs that felt borrowed from a stranger. Her expression was one of intense focus, lips parted, eyes half-lidded. She was beautiful, and he was inside her, and the whole situation felt like a dream he’d accidentally hacked.

“You feel so good,” she breathed, her voice husky. She leaned forward, bracing her hands on his chest. Her touch was electric against his skin. “It’s insane. Like, all of this.” Her gaze swept over the massive plane of his pectorals, the thick column of his neck.

Leo managed a shaky smile. “Still feels like I’m puppeteering someone else’s corpse.” The attempt at his usual self-deprecating humor fell flat, swallowed by the wet, intimate sounds of their bodies.

“Stop it,” she whispered, leaning down to kiss him. Her tongue tasted of the cheap white wine from dinner. “This is you. This is you now. And I’m… really into it.”

Her words were a key turning in a lock he didn’t know he had. A warmth that wasn’t purely sexual spread through his chest. Acceptance. From her. It was the one thing he hadn’t realized he was starving for. He let his hands slide up her back, feeling the delicate knobs of her spine under his too-large palms. He was trying to be present, to lose himself in the sensation, but a part of him was still watching from the ceiling, aghast and amazed.

He was kissing her neck, lost in the scent of her sweat and lavender candle wax, when the first twinge hit. A deep, internal cramp, like a muscle seizing in a place muscles shouldn’t be. He grunted, his body going rigid beneath her.

“You okay?” Lara murmured, not stopping her rhythm.

“Yeah, just… weird cramp,” he managed, his voice tight.

Then it escalated. It wasn’t a cramp. It was an expansion. A surging, painful pressure in his core, as if his insides were inflating. He cried out, a raw, guttural sound that had nothing to do with pleasure. His abdominal muscles, already defined, seemed to writhe under his skin, the ridges of his six-pack deepening, hardening into a topographic map of stone. The veins in his arms, which Lara had traced with her fingertips just moments before, rose to the surface like subcutaneous rivers, throbbing with a new, violent fullness.

“Leo?” Lara had stopped moving, her eyes wide with alarm.

His biceps swelled against her thighs, the muscle bellies rounding, stretching the skin. His shoulders broadened, pushing her hands wider apart on his chest. The pain was sharp, bright, and utterly confusing. And it wasn’t just his muscles.

Inside her, he felt it too. A thickening, a lengthening, an impossible growth that made her gasp, her internal muscles fluttering around the sudden, intrusive change. Her expression of concern shattered, morphing into shocked, overwhelming arousal.

“Oh my god,” she whispered, staring down at his torso. “Leo… you’re…”

He was. The transformation was accelerating, rippling through his frame. The soft, uncertain software engineer was being carved away, replaced by something hyper-masculine, almost cartoonish in its proportions. His pectorals became thicker slabs, his lats flaring out to make his waist seem even narrower. He looked, in the flickering candlelight, like a comic book artist’s fever dream of perfection. He looked, with a chilling clarity, exactly as massive as Chad.

The pain subsided as quickly as it came, leaving a dull, full ache and a body that felt heavier, denser, more alien than ever. He was panting, his new, deeper breaths loud in the quiet room. Lara was frozen atop him, her gaze raking over him with a hunger that was almost clinical.

“Holy shit,” she breathed. Her earlier tenderness was gone, burned away by sheer carnal awe. She ran a hand over his new bicep, her fingers barely able to circle it. “Feel that. It’s like granite.” She shifted her hips experimentally, a slow, testing grind, and her eyes rolled back as she felt the new, formidable size of him inside her. “Oh, fuck. Fuck, Leo. Don’t move.”

He was incapable of moving. He was paralyzed by the violation of his own form. This wasn’t the first change, the one that swapped his skinny frame for an athlete’s. This was an editorial pass. A malicious upgrade. It felt like a correction, as if some unseen force had looked at his clumsy attempt at inhabiting this body and decided to fully commit to the bit.

Lara began to move again, but differently. Gone was the sensual rhythm. This was driven, urgent, a hunger to test the limits of his new physique. She rode him with a fierce intensity, her nails biting into the rock of his chest. “You see this?” she moaned, almost to herself, watching the monstrous slabs of his chest muscles flex with each of her movements. “Look at you. No one has a body like this. No one.”

Her words were bullets. They should have been compliments. To the man she thought he was, they probably were. To Leo, they were a sentence. He was a spectacle. A phenomenon. Not a person. The gentle, witty heart of him was buried so deep under this new layer of muscle it might as well not exist.

He looked up at her, at the beautiful, familiar face twisted in unfamiliar ecstasy, and felt a loneliness so profound it was a physical chill. He thought of Marcus, down the hall, probably hating every soft curve of his own new body. He had a sudden, piercing understanding of his best friend’s rage. This was what it was to be seen as a thing. A magnificent, desired, terrifying thing.

Lara’s climax hit her, a sharp series of cries she muffled by biting her own wrist. She collapsed onto him, her sweat-slick skin sticking to his. She was whispering into his neck, “That was… that was unbelievable. You are unbelievable.”

Leo lay there, a monument under her, staring at the water stain on the ceiling he’d memorized as a teenager. The candle guttered, sending one last long shadow stretching across the wall—a shadow of a giant. He waited for his own release, but it didn’t come. His body, for all its shocking new capabilities, was numb. The connection had been severed. He was a passenger in a machine that was still humming, warm and spent, against him.

After a long time, Lara slid off him and curled into his side, her hand possessively on his stomach, tracing the new, deeper grooves of his abs. “My god,” she sighed, a smile in her voice. “What did you do? Some new crazy workout?”

He didn’t answer. He just listened to the house. To the oppressive quiet from Marcus’s room. To the sound of his own, too-slow heartbeat in a cavernous chest.

Down the hall, Marcus finally stirred. He swung his legs off the bed and padded to the door. He didn’t head to the bathroom. He went to the hall closet, rummaged in the dark, and pulled out his dad’s old toolbox. The metal was cold and solid in his small, soft hands. He carried it back to his room, set it on the desk next to the half-built model rocket, and clicked it open.

Inside, nestled in molded foam, lay a set of chrome-plated socket wrenches. He picked up the largest one. It was heavy. Substantial. A tool for applying torque, for forcing things to comply.

He hefted it, feeling the satisfying, dangerous weight. He looked from the wrench to his reflection in the dark window—a petite blonde ghost with swollen lips and empty eyes.

A thin, determined smile touched his mouth. It didn’t reach his eyes.

It was time to start taking things apart.
