Chapter 1: Chapter 1
I approached the riverbank with the measuring cord coiled in my palm, the way I always did when Erica took a new purchase. She stood over the human like a shadow given form, her violet skin luminous in the late sun. I kept my eyes down, but I saw him anyway. Humans were rare in the market. This one was raw and quiet, his wrists still red from the seller's bonds.
"Elona," Erica said without turning. "Bring me the marks."
I laid them flat on the grass beside her. The human, Albert, stood naked and shivering from the river. His chest had the hollow look of a man who had known hunger. I did not stare at his hips. It was not my place.
Erica circled him once, then twice. Her amber eyes were bright, almost hungry. I had seen that look before when she took a new slave, but something in it was different this time. Sharper. She stopped in front of him and lifted his chin with one finger.
"Tell me what you were thinking," she said. "When you were in the water."
His jaw worked. "You know what I was thinking."
"I want to hear you say it."
The man's throat moved. "I was thinking about her and pointing to me and you he said then stopped, the words dying in his throat like a fish gasping on dry land. Erica's amber eyes slid from his face to mine, and something cold settled in my stomach.
"Elona," she said. "The measuring cord. You know how."
I stepped forward, hands steady. This was my work. I had measured a hundred purchases for Erica, some twice that. I knelt at the human's feet and ran the cord along the shaft, my fingers gentle and quick. He was soft from the river, and I did not let my gaze linger where it did not belong. Four inches resting, the cord said i told her and I let the cord fall loose. Erica's shadow fell over us both."
Get him hard," she said. Not a request. An order.
I kept my face blank. My hands knew this work too, though I had never done it with Erica standing over me like a hawk watching a field mouse. I looked at the human's face instead of his body. His eyes were still on Erica, and something in them flickered. A hunger. A panic. Both.
"The tricky ones," my grandmother used to say, "you have to find what they want and give it to them just out of reach."
I pressed my palm flat against his belly, felt the muscles jump beneath my fingers. He was all wiry tension, a bowstring waiting to snap. I let my touch linger there, slow circles, then dragged my hand lower. His breath hissed through his teeth.
"It's all right," I said, soft enough for only him to hear. "She wants to see you. Let her see."
His eyes met mine for half a heartbeat. I felt something pass between us, not the sharp electric pull I sensed between him and Erica, but a quieter thread. Understanding. Then I closed my hand around him.
He was already half stirring from the river cold, but I coaxed him the rest of the way with patient fingers. Stroke. Pause. Stroke. I watched the rhythm of his breathing change, watched his jaw tighten as he fought himself. His thoughts leaked into mine, unbidden. She's watching. She sees me. Her eyes on my skin. Something in his mind pulsed with Erica's image, and I felt the echo of my mistress's hunger reflected back through him.
The flesh in my hand thickened and lengthened, and I had to adjust my grip. Then adjust again. By the time he was fully hard, my hand could barely circle his shaft, and the head had swollen against my fingers with a ridge like a crown. I heard Erica make a small sound behind me. I did not turn around to see her face.
"Measure him again," she said, and her voice had gone rough at the edges.
I picked up the cord with my free hand. The numbers came easily. "Nine and a half when standing. The rim adds a little more to the girth than the cord can capture."
Erica was silent for a long moment. When I finally dared to look up, her face was still as stone, but her amber eyes had gone dark, pupils blown wide. She stared at him like she was seeing a different man than the one she bought. I recognized the look; I had worn it myself once, long ago, when I learned the measure of things I had not expected to face.
She took a step back. Then another. Her voice, when it came, was nearly a whisper.
"On your hands and knees, Elona. Face the water."
I did not hesitate. My body knew obedience better than my mind knew fear. I turned from Albert and lowered myself to the grass, palms flat, knees spread. The damp of the riverbank seeped through my shift, cold against my thighs. I heard Erica move behind me, felt her presence settle like a hand on my back.
"Look at her," she said to Albert. "Look at what I give you."
I lifted my head. The water ran silver and green before me, and in its surface I saw his reflection, chest rising and falling like he had run a long way to reach this moment. His hands were still red from the seller's bonds. His eyes found mine in the water.
"Fuck her," Erica said. "Slow and easy, human. She is small."
His reflection moved. I heard his feet on the grass, felt the shift of air as he came close. His shadow fell over me, and I looked up at him properly for the first time. The hunger in his eyes had softened into something else. A question, maybe. A hesitation.
"It's all right," I said, soft enough that Erica could still hear but loose enough to be only for him. "I want this. I want you."
His throat moved. He lowered himself behind me, knees bracketing my hips, and I felt his hands on my waist. Trembling, or maybe that was mine. The shift clung to my skin, thin linen soaked at the hem, and he gathered it up to my back. His palms found my hips bare.
I turned my head to see him. His eyes were closed. His jaw was set like a man bracing for a blow.
"Look at her," Erica said again, harder. "You look at her while you do it."
He opened his eyes. They met mine over my shoulder, and I felt something pass through him, that quiet thread I had sensed at the measuring. He guided himself to me with one hand, and I felt the broad crown of him press against my entrance. I had expected pain. I had braced for it, the way I braced for every new thing Erica gave me.
He was slow. So slow.
The rim of him pushed past me and I gasped, fingers digging into the grass. He stopped at once, voice rough. "Did I hurt you?"
"No. Stay. Stay right there."
I needed a breath. Then another. He filled me in a way I had never been filled, and I felt myself stretch around him, a slow burn that was not pain but something close to it, a heat that climbed my spine. I pressed back against him, just a little, and his breath broke from his chest like a man surfacing from deep water.
"Good," Erica murmured. "Now move. Slow. Easy."
He moved. A retreat, a return, each stroke measured like he was counting them in his head. I felt every inch of him leave me and come back. The burn softened into something warmer, a friction that built with each pass. I let my head hang, let my hair drag through the grass, and I heard him make a sound low in his throat.
"Do you remember what you thought about in the water?" Erica asked. "Her hand on you. Her eyes on you. Is this what you imagined?"
"Not even close," he said.
I laughed, sharp and breathless, and the sound startled all three of us. He gripped my hips tighter. Slow, still slow, but the rhythm had changed, a deeper angle now, and my fingers tore grass from the bank. Behind the rolling heat I felt his mind brush mine, not Erica's electric pull but a quieter current. Her pleasure coils through him like smoke. He feels her watching, feels her hunger, and it feeds his own. And underneath that, a thread I did not expect: something for me. A tenderness he was trying not to feel, because she was watching.
I pushed back against him and let him feel me want it.
I pushed back against him and let him feel me want it. The heat built in my belly like a fist, and I bit my lip against the noise that wanted out. Then his hand slid around my hip, fingers finding the wet heat of me, and I gasped into the grass.
He found my clit with the pad of his thumb. Not rough, not teasing. Just there, a steady press that circled slow while he kept that measured rhythm inside me. His other hand came up and closed over my breast through the damp linen of my shift, and he squeezed with a kind of unsure reverence, like he was learning the shape of me.
The two points of heat met somewhere deep. I jerked against him, and he stilled.
"Don't stop," I said, the words coming out rough. "Don't you dare stop."
He didn't. He worked me with his thumb, drew circles that tightened with every stroke of his hips, and the pressure built in my belly like water behind a dam. I felt his mind brush mine again, his focus narrowed to the feel of me clenching around him. The awe in him, the desperation, the thread of tenderness he was trying to bury. It all fed the heat.
I came apart with a scream.
The sound tore out of my throat and I didn't care who heard it. My body seized, my spine arching, fingers tearing grass from the bank as the wave crashed through me. I was white and blind with it, and I felt his hands catch me, the one on my breast rising to my shoulder, steadying me.
"Easy," he murmured. "I've got you."
He drove me through it gently, hips working in soft, shallow strokes that made every aftershock stretch long and deep. The wave broke and reformed, and I thought I was done. Then he changed the angle, just a little, and his thumb pressed harder, and the second one rose before the first had fully died.
That one took me by the throat. I opened my mouth but nothing came out, just a raw, broken breath as I shuddered around him, clenching and fluttering like a fist opening and closing. I heard myself make a sound I had never made before, a thin keening whine that I couldn't stop.
And then I heard Erica moan.
I forced my head up. The water reflected her, and I turned just enough to see her properly. She had hitched up her own skirts, one hand buried between her thighs, her amber eyes fixed on the two of us with an expression I had never seen on her face. Her jaw was slack, her lips parted, and her fingers worked herself in frantic, ungraceful strokes.
She was not watching a slave being fucked. She was watching something she wanted to be part of and didn't know how to ask for.
Albert looked at me over his shoulder. I saw the question in his eyes before he gave it voice. "Should I slow down?"
"Don't slow," I breathed. "Don't stop. Make her watch."
Something shifted in his face. The tenderness remained, but the hunger sharpened underneath. He set his hands on my hips and took me deeper, harder, each stroke punching a gasp from my chest. The sound of us filled the riverbank, wet and rhythmic, and I heard Erica's breathing turn ragged behind me.
I heard her move before I saw her, the rustle of skirts, the shift of weight. Then her shadow fell over us and I felt Albert stiffen inside me, a tremor running through his whole body.
"Don't come yet," Erica said, her voice low and raw. "Eat me while you fuck her."
She gathered her skirts around her waist and swung a leg over his shoulders, settling her cunt against his mouth like a woman claiming a throne. Albert made a sound I couldn't name, half breath, half groan, and his hands came off my hips. One slid up between her thighs, fingers spreading her lips for his tongue. The other closed over her breast through the fabric of her gown, palm finding her nipple.
The rhythm of his hips didn't stop. He kept driving into me, steady and deep, but his attention had split, and I felt the change in the air, the new tension in his shoulders. He buried his face in her, and I heard the wet, hungry sounds of his mouth working.
Erica let out a sound I had never heard from her. Not a command, not a warning. Something animal, punched out of her chest.
She braced herself with one hand on his shoulder and the other twisted in his hair, pulling his face harder against her. Her thighs flexed against the sides of his head. I watched her spine bow, watched the cords of her neck stand out as he worked her.
I pushed back against him, taking him deeper, and he groaned against her flesh in answer.
"That's it," Erica breathed. "Don't stop, either of you."
His mouth kept at her but his rhythm changed, a harder angle that made my knees slide in the grass. The roughness of it jolted through me, and I felt the third wave building. His tongue moved with the same devotion he had given me, and I felt her pleasure through the thread that bound them, and through him, it washed back into me.
Erica's hand left his hair, came down to my waist. Her fingers were trembling. She gripped me there, grounding herself, and I felt the pressure of her hand, the shared heat of her skin through my shift.
"Elona," she said, and her voice cracked on my name.
Something in me broke open. Not the heat, the wave was still cresting, but something older, a wall I had built around myself in service. I reached back and found her wrist, held it. She didn't pull away.
Albert's hips drove into me, his mouth buried in her, and I felt the shudder begin in her thighs, felt it travel down through his body into mine. She came with a sound that was almost a sob, her body locking rigid, her hand white-knuckled on my waist.
He didn't stop. He lapped her through it, gentler now, and she sagged against him, her forehead dropping to the crown of his head.
"Now you," she whispered. "Finish her. Then me, again."
His hand slid back down my body. He found my clit with a slick finger again, and I was already so close that the touch was enough. I came with a sound I had never made before, a high tearing cry that scattered the birds from the trees across the river.
He kept thrusting through it, and I felt him teeter, felt his control fraying at the edges. Erica's hand pressed flat against my back, steadying me as I trembled.
"Not yet," she said, soft and fierce. "Not yet, human. One more."
His breath was ragged against her thighs. He lifted his head just enough to look at her, his mouth slick and red, his eyes dazed. "I can't hold much longer."
"You can." She turned his face back to her cunt with two fingers under his chin. "You will."
He buried himself in her again, and this time something broke in her voice. She came again fast, crying out with a raw, ungraceful sound that echoed off the water. I felt him strain, felt the shudder roll through his hips, and I braced, ready for the hot flood of him to spill against my thighs. Instead his hand clamped my hip and he drove in one last time, buried to the rim, and I felt him release inside me with a shudder that ran up both our spines. Warmth bloomed deep in my belly, shocking and strange, and I heard him groan into Erica's flesh like the sound was pulled out of him by root and rope.
He went soft inside me by degrees but stayed seated, breathing hard against her thigh. Erica's hand was still on my waist, trembling. She lifted it, slowly, and pressed it flat between my shoulder blades.
"Good," she said. The word came out thick. "Now pull out and come here."
He obeyed with a slick, terrible sound that made my thighs clench. I heard him rise, felt the absence of his warmth like a pulled thread. I stayed where I was, hands in the grass, my shift ruined and clinging, and I heard Erica's skirts rustle as she lay back on the riverbank.
"You," she said. "Come here."
I turned to look. She had spread herself on the grass like a feast, her gown pooled around her hips, her skin glistening where his mouth had worked her. Her amber eyes found mine and held, and for the first time since I had served her, the hardness in them was gone.
"Elona. Come brace me."
I crawled to her on hands and knees, the grass damp and cool under my palms. She reached for me and pulled me to her side, positioning me like furniture, my back against her shoulder, my hand pressed to her belly. Her fingers closed around mine.
"Watch him," she whispered. "Watch him take me the way he took you."
Albert stood over her, his breath still ragged, his skin flushed. He looked from her face to mine, and I saw the question in his eyes again. I gave him a small nod, and something in his shoulders loosened.
He lowered himself over her, and she was small beneath him too. Her violet skin against the green of the bank, the dark flare of her hair, the way she spread her legs for him like an offering. He guided himself to her with the same careful hand, the same reverence, and I felt her breath catch as the rim of him pressed against her.
"Look at me," she said.
He did. He looked at her while he pushed inside, and I watched the stretch and give of her, the way her jaw tightened, the sound that escaped her, thin and high. She gripped my hand hard enough to hurt.
"Tell me," she breathed. "Tell me when you feel it."
He sank deeper, and her spine bowed off the grass. The thread between them flared brighter, and through it I felt the echo of what she felt: the impossible fullness, the burning stretch, the way he seemed to reach places in her she had sealed shut long ago.
"I feel it," he said, and his voice was rough. "You're so tight."
"Move. Just like that. Exactly like that."
He moved exactly like that. The same measured rhythm, the same patient depth, and I watched her face go slack with wonder. Her hand found his chest, fingers splayed over his heart, and she looked up at him like she was reading a language she had forgotten.
"Faster," she said, and when he obeyed, she bit her lip hard enough to whiten.
I held her hand while he took her. I felt her pleasure through the thread, that sharp electric hum, and I felt his too, a doubled current that washed through me where I pressed against her side. She turned her face to mine, eyes bright and wet.
"Elona," she said.
"Elona," she said again, softer.
I reached down and found her clit. She was slick from Albert's mouth, swollen and hot against my fingers, and she gasped when I touched her. Not a command, not a warning. Just a sound that cracked open the silence between us.
Her hips jerked against my hand. I rubbed her in slow circles, the way I knew she liked, the way I had learned from watching her take herself in the dark of her tent when she thought I was asleep. She gripped my wrist but didn't push me away. Her breath came in short, sharp bursts against Albert's shoulder.
"That's it," she breathed. "Don't stop."
Albert kept moving inside her, his rhythm faltering as he watched my hand work between her thighs. His eyes were dark and wide, his jaw slack. I felt his wonder through the thread, a boyish awe at the sight of us together, two women touching while he watched.
Erica's hips rolled against my fingers. Her nails dug into my arm, and I felt the tension coiling in her belly, the same pressure I had felt in my own body moments before. She was close. I could feel it in the way her breath caught, in the flutter of her inner walls against him.
"Close," she said. "So close. Don't stop, don't you dare stop."
I didn't stop. I circled her clit faster, pressing harder, and her spine bowed off the grass. Albert drove into her with a desperate rhythm now, his control fraying, and I felt him teeter on the edge with her.
"Together," she commanded, her voice breaking. "You come when I come. Both of you."
Albert groaned against her neck. "I can't... I'm going to..."
"You will."
My fingers worked her through it, and I felt the wave crest, felt her body lock rigid around her climax. She cried out with a sound that was half sob, half scream, and Albert followed her with a shudder that ran through all three of us where our bodies touched. I felt him spill inside her, felt her clench around him, and the current of their joined pleasure washed through me, bright and electric.
I kept rubbing her through it, gentler now, until her hips stilled and her hand closed over mine, stilling me.
"Enough," she whispered. "That's enough."
I pulled my hand away, slick and warm. She lay there, chest heaving, Albert collapsed on top of her. For a long moment, no one moved. The river ran silver and green beside us. A bird called somewhere across the water.
Then Erica laughed. A real laugh, raw and unguarded, the sound of a woman who had forgotten how.
"Look at you," she said, pushing Albert's hair from his forehead. "You survived me. And her. Most men don't survive either of us alone."
He managed a crooked smile. "I'm still standing."
"You're barely kneeling."
"Same thing."
She laughed again, softer this time. Her hand came to my cheek, and I felt her thumb trace the line of my jaw. Her amber eyes held a tenderness I had never seen in them before.
"Elona," she said. "You're mine. You've always been mine. But I didn't know until now how much you were mine."
I didn't know what to say to that. I had spent two centuries learning when to speak and when to stay silent. This was a silence moment.
She sat up, gathering her skirts around her. Albert slumped back on the grass, breath still ragged. The sun had begun to lower, casting long shadows across the riverbank.
"Tomorrow," Erica said, and her voice had regained some of its steel, "we go to the house. There are forms to file, ownership papers to sign. And there is the matter of your training, human."
