Recovering from a bad hangover, Hamish finds himself locked out of his imposing Scottish manor house, but eventually works his way through the secret passageways of the old house, and peering through one of the roof hatches, watches his wife, Fiona, dressed in only a pair of fully fashioned stockings and suspender belt, rides their friend, Lachlan, on top of him, yelling, 'oh yes, c'mon, give it to me! Fuck me!'

Chapter 10: The Reckoning

The cottage door slammed back against the stone wall with a crack like a gunshot. Splinters flew. Hamish filled the doorway, his massive frame blocking out the weak moonlight, breathing like a bull that had run miles. His face, ruddy and twisted with fury, was slick with sweat and rain. The sight before him burned itself onto his retinas: Fiona, naked and splayed obscenely on the rumpled bed, legs wide, her enormous belly glistening, her face contorted in agony. Lachlan, naked, still kneeling between her thighs, his cock – thick, flushed, and glistening wetly with her fluids and his own spend – only half-softened. He turned, startled, but the smirk that had begun to form at Fiona’s cry froze instantly at the volcanic rage radiating from the Laird.

“Hamish!” Fiona gasped, her voice ragged, her eyes wide with terror that overrode the birth pangs for a split second. “The baby… it’s coming! Please!”

But Hamish’s eyes were locked on Lachlan. The air crackled, thick with the scent of sex, sweat, and the coppery tang of impending birth. The oil lamp guttered, casting monstrous, leaping shadows against the stone walls.

“You bastard!” Hamish roared, the sound filling the small space, making the very stones seem to tremble. He took a heavy step forward, fists clenched at his sides, knuckles bone-white. “You think you can take everything from me? My home? My wife? You rutted her like a beast in my own fucking cottage, got your filthy bastard seed inside her, and now you stand there grinning while she births your whelp?”

Lachlan scrambled back, fumbling for his discarded trousers but not finding them quickly enough. His earlier confidence bled away under the sheer, incandescent fury. “Hamish, man, listen… it’s not what you–”

“Not what, Campbell?” Hamish took another step, looming over the naked man. “Not what I saw in the drawing room? Her sucking your cock? Was that my fucking eyes lying? Or this? Her screaming your name while you pounded her cunt? Is this not what it looks like, you treacherous dog?” Spittle flew from his lips.

Fiona screamed again, a raw, guttural sound that tore through the tension. Her body arched violently off the bed, a fresh wave of contraction seizing her. “Help me! Oh God, Hamish, please! The head… I can feel it crowning! Lachlan, do something!”

Lachlan looked from Fiona’s straining form back to Hamish’s murderous face, indecision paralyzing him. His cock, still slick and thick, twitched uselessly.

The sight of her pain, the raw animal vulnerability amidst his own boiling rage and humiliation, created a horrifying fracture inside Hamish. Duty warred with the primal urge to snap Lachlan’s neck. He saw the panic, the genuine fear in Fiona’s green eyes – not just of him, but of the life forcing its way out of her. He saw the dark, wet head of the infant beginning to emerge between her trembling thighs. The instinct of the Laird, the ingrained responsibility to protect life on his land – even this life – momentarily outweighed the desire for bloody vengeance.

With a growl that seemed ripped from his soul, Hamish surged forward. Not towards Lachlan, but towards the bed. He shoved Lachlan aside with such force the younger man sprawled naked onto the cold stone floor.

“Get out of the way, you useless fuck!” Hamish snarled, dropping to his knees at the foot of the bed. His large, weathered hands, used to handling beasts and stone, hovered uncertainly for a fraction of a second above Fiona’s spread sex. He saw the stretched, glistening flesh, the dark hair matted with fluid, the terrifying, miraculous emergence happening before him. The raw intimacy of it, the sheer biological power, momentarily stole his breath. This was the result of their fucking. This wet, bloody proof of Lachlan deep inside his wife.

“Push, Fiona!” His voice was rough, commanding, stripped of tenderness but laced with a desperate urgency. “Now! Fucking push!”

Fiona, sweat plastering fiery strands to her forehead, locked eyes with him. Terror, pain, and a flicker of something else – shame? Gratitude? – warred in her gaze. She bore down with a guttural scream, her body straining with every ounce of strength. Hamish watched, mesmerized and horrified, as the baby’s head fully emerged, slick and dark-haired, face down. Time compressed. Another scream, another monumental push, and shoulders slid free in a gush of blood and fluid. Hamish’s hands instinctively moved, catching the slippery, squirming body as it slithered fully into the world.

A shocked silence descended, broken only by Fiona’s gasping sobs and the baby’s first, indignant wail. A strong, healthy cry. Hamish held the tiny, blood-streaked infant, its cord pulsing between its legs. He looked at it. A boy. The features were still swollen and alien, but the shock of dark hair… like Lachlan’s.

He felt no warmth. Only a cold, heavy stone of realization settling in his gut. This was Lachlan Campbell’s son. Born on his land, into his marriage bed, moments after being conceived by his wife and his friend.

Lachlan scrambled up from the floor, pulling his trousers on haphazardly, his face pale. “Is… is it..?” he started, taking a hesitant step towards the bed.

Hamish’s head snapped up. His eyes, glacial blue chips of ice, pinned Lachlan where he stood. He held the wailing infant possessively against his broad chest, the baby’s cries echoing in the tense silence. Fiona reached out a trembling hand towards the child, her voice a broken whisper. “My baby… please…”

Ignoring her, Hamish shifted the infant slightly, his other hand moving with surprising gentleness but firm purpose. He parted Fiona’s swollen labia, his thick fingers probing carefully inside her. He wasn’t searching for pleasure. He was checking. Ensuring the placenta wasn’t tearing. Feeling the warm gush of lochia. Assessing the damage done by the birth, and perhaps, by the frantic fucking that preceded it.

Fiona flinched at the intrusion, a weak cry escaping her lips. “Hamish…”

“Quiet, woman,” he rumbled, his voice low and dangerous. He kept his eyes on Lachlan as his fingers worked clinically inside his wife. “The bleeding’s heavy, but it’s normal. Placenta’s still attached.” He withdrew his fingers, slick with blood and mucus, wiping them indifferently on the already stained blanket beside her thigh.

He stood then, the crying newborn cradled awkwardly in the crook of one massive arm. His gaze swept over Fiona’s exhausted, vulnerable form, then settled with lethal focus on Lachlan. The naked intimacy of the scene – Fiona exposed and bleeding, the bastard child wailing in his arms, his own fingers still damp from her body – crystallized his fury into something colder, harder.

“Get out, Campbell,” Hamish said, his voice dangerously quiet, cutting through the baby’s cries and Fiona’s whimpers. “Get off my land. Now. If I see your face on MacMillan soil again, I’ll shoot you where you stand like the rabid dog you are.”

Lachlan opened his mouth, perhaps to protest, perhaps to claim the child, but the look on Hamish’s face silenced him. He grabbed his shirt and boots, stumbling towards the door naked from the waist up, casting one last, conflicted glance at Fiona and the screaming infant.

Hamish didn’t watch him leave. He looked down at the red, squalling bundle in his arms. The baby’s tiny fists flailed. He looked at Fiona, her eyes wide with fear and exhaustion, tears cutting tracks through the sweat on her cheeks. The scent of blood, birth, and betrayal hung heavy in the air.

A muscle ticked in Hamish’s jaw. He bent, surprisingly fluidly for such a large man, and scooped Fiona up from the bed with his free arm. She cried out weakly at the sudden movement, her body limp. He didn’t cradle her. He held her firmly, unceremoniously, like cumbersome baggage. Her head lolled against his shoulder, her naked skin cold and damp against his tweed jacket. The baby screamed against his chest.

Without another word, Hamish MacMillan turned and carried his wife and the child that was not his son out of the cottage and into the cold, indifferent embrace of the Highland night. The door swung shut behind him, leaving only the lingering scent of sex and blood and the echo of a newborn's furious cries. He walked towards the dark bulk of the manor house, a silhouette against the moonless sky, carrying the shattered remnants of his life and the bitter fruit of betrayal, his mind already churning with the dark arithmetic of consequence. The reckoning was far from over. This was merely the eye of the storm.
