Chapter 7: The Reckoning
The warmth of the shower, the clean sheets, the solid comfort of his body against mine—it all turned to ice. My heart didn’t just pound; it seemed to shudder to a stop, then restart with a sick, lurching gallop. The neon lights outside swam into watery streaks.
“He heard…” The words were ash in my mouth. I tried to sit up, but his arm was an iron bar. “Vishal, no.”
“Yes.” His voice was calm, factual. “Every cry. Every plea. Every filthy, wonderful confession. He heard you come. He knows.” His fingers stroked the skin of my hip. “And now he needs to see.”
The horror was total. It was a vertigo that reached into my stomach. The thought of Rajesh’s eyes on me now, after what I’d done, after what I’d become… it was a violation deeper than any physical act. I shook my head against the pillow, silent tears returning. “I can’t.”
“You can. You will.” He released me and sat up, swinging his legs off the bed. He was utterly unselfconscious in his nakedness, a king in his domain. He looked back at me, my body curled in a fetal position on the vast bed. “Get up, Anjali. Put on the robe. The black silk one on the chair. Nothing else.”
His tone brooked no argument. It was the voice that had commanded me to spread my legs, to arch my back, to accept him. My body obeyed before my mind could formulate another protest. I pushed myself up, every muscle protesting, the deep, telling ache between my legs a constant reminder. The black robe slithered over my skin. I tied the belt, my fingers clumsy. The collar was still at my throat. I reached for it.
“Leave it,” he said, without turning around. He was pulling on a pair of dark linen trousers. “That stays on. That’s for him to see, too.”
I followed him out of the bedroom, my bare feet silent on the cool marble floor. The hallway seemed to stretch for miles. The low jazz from the living room grew louder, a sultry, mocking soundtrack. The scent of whiskey grew stronger, mixed with the faint, unmistakable odor of Rajesh’s cheap cologne and his own sour drunkenness.
Vishal paused at the arched entrance to the living room. He turned, took my chin in his hand, and tilted my face up. His eyes searched mine. “This is the final gift,” he said, his voice low. “The gift of truth. No more hiding. No more being his good little wife in the light and my hungry slut in the dark. You are one thing now. Mine. Let him see it.”
He kissed me, hard and possessive, then turned and walked into the room, leaving me in the shadow of the doorway.
I saw Rajesh first.
He was sunk deep into the large leather armchair, a crystal tumbler dangling from his fingers, nearly empty. His shirt was rumpled, his hair disheveled. His eyes were red-rimmed and glassy, fixed on nothing. He looked small, swallowed by the chair, a pathetic stain on Vishal’s perfect landscape.
Then his gaze shifted, drawn by Vishal’s movement, and found me.
His face did something complicated. Confusion first, bleary and slow. Then a dawning, horrific comprehension. His eyes traveled from my tear-swollen face, down the black silk robe that hid nothing of my form, to my bare feet, and finally, inevitably, to the glittering sapphire at my throat. His mouth opened, but no sound came out.
Vishal went to the sideboard, poured two fingers of amber liquid into a fresh glass, and took a slow sip. He leaned against the mahogany, the picture of relaxed ownership. “Rajesh. Your wife has had quite an evening. I thought you should be the first to congratulate her.”
Rajesh’s jaw worked. “Anjali?” he finally croaked.
The sound of my name from his lips was a foreign thing. It belonged to another woman, in another life. I couldn’t speak. I stood frozen, the weight of the collar my only anchor.
“Come here,” Vishal said to me, not bothering to look at Rajesh.
My feet moved. I walked across the expanse of rug, feeling Rajesh’s eyes crawl over every inch of me. I stopped near Vishal, but not touching him. The distance felt wrong, immediately. I needed his heat, his certainty. I took a half-step closer, my arm brushing his.
A low groan escaped Rajesh. He understood the gesture.
“She was extraordinary,” Vishal said conversationally, as if discussing a fine wine. “A fast learner. Eager. The shyness… it just melts away when you know how to apply the right heat.” He reached out and casually undid the tie of my robe. He didn’t open it; just loosened it, so the deep ‘V’ of the silk fell open, revealing the upper swell of my breasts, the shadowed valley between them. A mark from his teeth was visible just above my collarbone. “You never uncovered this, did you? This fire. This capacity.”
“Stop it,” Rajesh whispered, his voice trembling.
“Why?” Vishal asked, genuinely curious. “You wanted the money. I wanted her. The transaction is complete. Your debts are cleared. You’re drinking my seventy-year-old Scotch. And I…” He finally looked at Rajesh, a slow, cruel smile spreading. “I have thoroughly enjoyed your marital investment.” His hand came up to cup the back of my neck, his thumb stroking the chain of the collar. “Haven’t I, Anjali?”
The touch unlocked my voice. It was a key turning in a deep, secret lock. I looked directly at my husband, at the weak, pitiable man who had sold me for a stack of rupee notes and the promise of a clean slate. A strange calm settled over me. The shame burned away, leaving only a cold, clear truth.
“Yes,” I said, my voice stronger than I expected. “You have.”
Rajesh flinched as if struck.
“She came harder than she ever has in her life,” Vishal continued, his tone light, almost jovial. “Screaming my name. Begging for more. You heard it, didn’t you? From in here? That ragged, broken sound at the end? That was her soul leaving your custody.”
“Please,” Rajesh begged, his eyes filling with pathetic tears. “Don’t.”
“Don’t what? Don’t tell you the truth?” Vishal’s hand slid from my neck to my shoulder, pulling the silk robe down an inch further. “Look at her, Rajesh. Really look. This is what a woman looks like when she’s been properly fucked. When she’s been opened up and claimed. There’s a glow to it. A peace. You’ve never given her that. You couldn’t.”
The words were brutal, each one a hammer blow to the ghost of our marriage. And with each blow, something hardened inside me. A solidarity with my tormentor. He was right. He was cruel, and vile, and magnificent, and he was right.
Vishal turned me to face him, his back now to Rajesh. He looked into my eyes, and I saw his own dark hunger reflected there—not just for my body, but for this moment, for this ultimate victory. “Show him,” he murmured, so only I could hear. “Show him you love it.”
He kissed me. Not like before. This was a slow, deep, performative kiss. His tongue claimed my mouth with a leisurely arrogance. My hands, which had hung limp at my sides, rose of their own volition, sliding up his bare chest to clutch at his shoulders. I kissed him back. I poured everything into it—the shame, the ecstasy, the newfound, terrifying freedom. A low moan vibrated in my throat.
From the chair came a sound of pure anguish.
The sound—a wet, strangled sob—was the final thread snapping. Vishal broke the kiss, a slow, deliberate separation. He kept his forehead against mine, his eyes holding me in that private space we’d built inside the horror. “Hear that?” he whispered, his breath warm on my lips. “That’s the sound of your old life ending.”
He stepped back, his hands going to the loose tie of my robe. With a single, smooth pull, the black silk sighed open and pooled at my feet. I stood naked before them both, the city’s glow a pallid caress on my oil-slicked skin. The collar gleamed. The bite mark on my shoulder was a dark bloom. The ache between my legs was an open secret.
Rajesh made another noise, turning his face into the leather of the chair.
“Look at her,” Vishal commanded, his voice losing its playful edge, becoming pure authority. He didn’t glance at Rajesh; his order was for me. I turned to face my husband. My skin prickled under the double weight of their stares—one devouring, the other shattered.
“See what you gave away?” Vishal said, moving behind me. His hands settled on my bare hips, possessive and warm. “See how perfect she is when she’s not stifled by your incompetence? When she’s not pretending pleasure just to spare your feelings?”
He guided me backward, until the backs of my knees met the cool, polished mahogany of the wide coffee table. “Sit,” he murmured. I lowered myself, the wood cold and unyielding against my thighs. He stood before me, looking down, a dark statue of intent. His fingers traced the line of my jaw, then drifted lower, over my pounding pulse, down the centre of my body.
His touch was a lecture in itself. It spoke of knowledge Rajesh never possessed. “You’ve never even tasted her, have you?” Vishal asked, his thumb brushing my lower lip. “All those years, and you never went down on your own wife.” He said it like stating a mundane, tragic fact.
Rajesh’s silence was answer enough. Vishal gave a short, dismissive shake of his head. “Criminal.”
Then he knelt.
The sight of him, this powerful man on his knees before me, sent a violent shiver through my core. He didn’t hurry. He pushed my thighs wider, his hands firm, his eyes locked on mine. The jazz music coiled through the room, a saxophone’s lament. He leaned in, and his first touch was not his mouth, but his breath, warm and unsettling against my most sensitive skin. I jerked.
“Stay still,” he said, his voice a low vibration. “Watch him. Watch him watch this.”
My eyes, against every instinct, dragged themselves to Rajesh. He was staring now, transfixed, his mouth agape, his drink forgotten. He was a ghost haunting his own failure.
Vishal’s tongue found me then. It was a flat, slow, thorough stroke that rewired my nervous system. It was not the frantic fumbling I’d imagined this act might be. It was an assertion. A mapping. He licked into me with a languid, devastating precision that had my head falling back, a moan torn from my throat before I could stop it.
“That’s it,” he muttered against me, the words felt more than heard. “Let him hear what he’s been missing.”
He built a rhythm that was purely, cruelly pedagogical. Long, slow laps that gathered my wetness, followed by a tight, focused circling on the aching nub of my clit. He varied the pressure, learning my body’s responses in real time, exploiting each one. One of his hands slipped beneath me, a finger pressing firmly at the still-tender, forbidden entrance he’d conquered earlier. The dual-point contact, the exquisite contrast of his soft mouth and his demanding finger, unraveled me.
I tangled my hands in his hair, not to push him away, but to anchor myself. My hips began to move of their own accord, meeting each slow, maddening stroke. The coil of pleasure was thick and deep, different from the shocking eruption he’d wrung from me before. This was a slow, rising tide, pulling me under degree by degree.
“She’s close already,” Vishal said, lifting his head for a moment. He was speaking to Rajesh, his chin glistening. “See how her thighs shake? That’s the first sign. You never learned the signs, did you?”
He didn’t wait for an answer. He returned to me, his mouth more insistent now, his tongue flicking faster. The finger at my back door pressed inward, just a hint, a threatening promise. The orgasm gathered, a precipice I could feel in the marrow of my bones. I was panting, my gaze blurring, but I kept my eyes on Rajesh’s horrified, fascinated face.
“Vishal,” I choked out, a warning and a plea.
He hummed in response, the vibration traveling straight through me. It was the final key turn.
The climax didn’t smash me; it poured. It was a deep, rolling wave of liquid heat that flooded out from my core, dissolving my bones, silencing my thoughts. I cried out, a sound that was all relief and surrender, my back arching sharply off the table. He stayed with me through every pulsation, gentling his tongue until the last tremor subsided.
I lay spent on the hard wood, breathing raggedly. He rose, looming over me, his own need evident in the strained linen of his trousers. He leaned down, bracing his hands on the table on either side of my head. “Beautiful,” he breathed, kissing me softly, letting me taste myself on his lips. “That was just the opening act.”
He helped me up, my legs wobbly. He led me to the deep, wide sofa, pushing me down onto the plush cushions. He undid his trousers, finally freeing himself. In the dim light, he looked immense, potent. He positioned me on my back, drew my hips to the edge of the sofa, and draped my legs over his arms.
He entered me in one slow, continuous push. It was a fullness so different from before—welcoming, known, yet somehow new. My inner muscles, still fluttering from the aftershocks, clutched at him greedily. He sheathed himself completely and paused, letting me absorb him.
“Look at him,” Vishal grunted, beginning to move with long, deep, withdrawals and returns. “Look at his face.”
Rajesh was crumpled, a broken doll in the chair six feet away. Tears cut clean lines through the sheen of sweat on his cheeks. He watched Vishal’s body move over mine, watched where we joined, watched my hands roam over Vishal’s back, leaving faint red trails.
“Tell him,” Vishal said, his rhythm steady and profound, each stroke hitting a place that made stars burst behind my eyelids. “Tell him what you feel.”
“I feel you,” I gasped, the words tumbling out. “All of you. It’s… it’s everything.”
“Louder.”
“It’s everything!” I cried, the confession filling the room. “You’re everything!”
Vishal’s control was superhuman. He maintained that slow, deep, grinding pace, orchestrating our bodies and the scene with meticulous care. He changed our position without ever leaving me, turning us so I was on top, straddling him, my back to Rajesh. “Ride me,” he ordered, his hands gripping my waist. “Show him how a goddess takes her pleasure.”
I moved, finding a rhythm that chased the returning, coiling sensation. I leaned back against his firm thighs, my head lolling, my body on display. I could see Rajesh in the distorted reflection of the dark window now, a shriveled spectator.
“Faster,” Vishal urged, his voice tight. His hands slid up to cup my breasts, his thumbs circling my nipples. The pleasure was a feedback loop, building again, hotter and sharper. “Make yourself come on my cock. Now.”
His command was the trigger. The second orgasm was sharper, brighter, a cresting peak that tightened my entire body into a bowstring. I screamed, my inner walls convulsing around him, the pulses milking him relentlessly.
Feeling me clamp down on him shattered his famed control. With a growl that was pure animal triumph, he rolled us, putting me beneath him again, pinning me to the cushions. His thrusts lost their measured pace, becoming deep, driving, final punctuations.
“Look at him!” he roared, his face a mask of feral ecstasy. “Look at him while I fill his wife!”
My bleary eyes found Rajesh’s. Vishal’s body pistoned into mine, once, twice, three more times. He buried himself to the root, a final, crushing weight, and I felt the hot, pulsing release deep inside me. A long, ragged groan was torn from his chest. His whole body shuddered with the force of it.
He collapsed onto me, his sweat-slick skin sealing to mine. The only sounds were our ragged breathing, the fading saxophone, and the quiet, hopeless weeping from the leather armchair.
After a long minute, Vishal shifted his weight, lifting his head to look at Rajesh. His expression was one of satiated, absolute victory.
“Now,” he said, his voice hoarse but clear. “You can go.”
