Chapter 4: The Examination
The click of the bathroom lock was the loudest sound Diane had ever heard. It severed them from the other man, from what had happened, and trapped them together in the aftermath. The marble expanse of the penthouse bathroom felt like a morgue—cold, gleaming, sterile under the low, ambient lighting. Steam rose lazily from the sunken tub in the corner, a forgotten luxury.
She leaned against the vanity, her hands splayed on the cool stone, head bowed. Her reflection in the mirror was a stranger: makeup smeared, hair wrecked from Marcus’s grip, eyes hollow and shock-wide. The elegant woman from the casino floor was gone.
Rob stood just inside the locked door, breathing hard. He wasn’t looking at her face. His gaze was fixed lower, on the ruin of her dress, the stockings torn at the thighs, the naked, glistening evidence on her skin.
“Look at me,” he said. His voice was sandpaper.
She couldn’t.
He crossed the space in three quick strides, his movements jerky. He didn’t touch her gently. His hands gripped her shoulders and spun her around to face the vast, unforgiving mirror. He stood behind her, his face pale and strained over her shoulder, his eyes burning into their reflection.
“Look,” he commanded, his voice cracking. “Look at what he did.”
She forced her eyes open. The sight was obscene. Her slacks were still in front of the windows. Between her trembling thighs, she was swollen, puffy, an angry red. Marcus’s release, thick and pearlescent, was smeared across her inner thighs and seeping from her.
Rob’s hands moved from her shoulders, down her arms, settling on her hips. His touch was different now—not possessive like Marcus’s, but frantic, investigative. “I need to see,” he muttered, more to himself than to her. “I need to know what he did to you.”
He pushed her legs apart wider with his knee. Diane whimpered, the movement making her sore muscles protest. She watched in the mirror as her husband, the man she’d shared a bed with for fifteen years, stared at her violated flesh with a terrifying intensity.
He didn’t caress her. He used his thumbs, pressing into the soft flesh of her inner thighs, spreading her open for his inspection. The cool air of the bathroom hit her exposed, tender flesh, making her clench involuntarily.
“So wet,” Rob breathed, his voice husky with a mixture of disgust and awe. “So fucking wet for him.” He dragged a thumb through the slick mess, collecting it. He held his glistening thumb up between their reflections. “His come. All over you.”
A fresh tear tracked through Diane’s smudged makeup. “Rob, please…”
“No.” The word was final. He lowered his hand, and instead of wiping it away, he brought his fingers to her entrance. He traced the swollen lips, making her jump. “It’s so… open.” He pushed one finger inside her.
Diane gasped. It was a different kind of invasion. Rob’s finger was familiar, but she was exquisitely sensitive, stretched and raw. And it slid in with an ease that was utterly new. There was no resistance.
Rob felt it too. His eyes locked on hers in the mirror. “Jesus, Diane.” He worked his finger deeper, then added a second. They disappeared into her with a soft, wet sound. His expression shattered, crumpling into something like pain. “You’re… loose.”
The word hung in the steam-filled air. It was a physical truth, a brutal confirmation of Marcus’s taunt. A pencil in a hallway.
“He ruined you,” Rob whispered, but his voice was thick, and his cock, still trapped in his trousers, pressed insistently against the small of her back.
He began to move his fingers, scissoring them gently. The sensation was strange—a familiar touch in a profoundly unfamiliar space inside her. There was no tight grip around his digits, just a slick, yielding heat. A deep, throbbing ache bloomed where Marcus had pistoned into her, but beneath the ache, a flicker of that same shocking pleasure rekindled.
A moan escaped Diane’s lips, low and shuddering. It was louder, more desperate, than any sound she could remember making with her husband.
Rob’s eyes darkened. He withdrew his fingers, slick and shiny, and looked at them. Then, without warning, he unzipped his trousers. His cock sprang free, thick and familiar, but it looked different now—smaller, somehow, in the shadow of the memory of the other.
He didn’t guide himself to her. He used his wet fingers to stroke himself once, twice, his gaze never leaving her ravaged reflection. “Can you even feel me now?” he asked, the question a razorblade.
“Try,” she begged, the word barely a whisper.
He gripped her hip with one hand, the other guiding his cock. He nudged against her sore, slippery entrance. He pressed forward.
There was no push. No stretching. He slid into her in one smooth, shocking motion, burying himself to the hilt with a grunt. The fullness was there, but it was different—a hollowness filled, not a tightness conquered.
“Fuck,” Rob choked out. He was shaking. “It’s like… nothing.” He pulled back and thrust in again. The sound was wet, loud, obscene in the quiet room. “I’m swimming in his fucking come.”
Each thrust was a confirmation of their new reality. Diane felt him, yes, but she also felt the vast, aching space around him. She felt the ghost of the other man, the memory of that brutal fullness, and it triggered a dark, shameful heat in her belly. Her body, traitorously, began to respond. Her inner muscles, softened and sensitized, fluttered around Rob’s familiar length, drawing a ragged groan from him.
“You like it,” he accused, pounding into her harder, his grip on her hip bruising. “You like feeling how he fucked you open for me. Don’t you?”
She couldn’t deny it. Her head fell back against his shoulder, her cries echoing off the marble. “Yes…!”
“Tell me,” he demanded, his rhythm becoming faster, more frantic. “Tell me what he felt like.”
“Big,” she sobbed, the truth torn from her. “So big… it hurt…”
“And this?” Rob hammered into her, his own climax building, a tense, angry thing. “What does this feel like?”
She was coming again, a sudden, violent cresting that had nothing to do with tenderness and everything to do with devastation and depraved discovery. “It feels… like I’m empty!” she screamed, the admission breaking her.
With a guttural roar, Rob slammed into her one last time, holding deep as he spilled inside her, his release mixing with the other’s in her traumatized, welcoming flesh. They collapsed together against the vanity, their weight supported by the cold stone, their harsh breaths fogging the mirror, obscuring the ruined, united image of themselves.
For a long time, there was only the sound of their breathing and the distant hum of the city through the glass. Rob slowly softened inside her, but he didn’t pull away. He kept his forehead pressed against her shoulder.
When he finally spoke, his voice was flat, drained. “We can never go back, can we?”
Diane stared at their blurred reflection in the fogged glass. The neat, contained life they had built was out there, somewhere in the neon night. In here, in this room, it was gone. All that was left was this new, raw version of them, connected in the most primal way, anchored by a shared violation that had, somehow, become a twisted bond.
She didn’t answer. There was no answer to give. The lock had been turned. The door was shut. All they could do was breathe the same air, and feel what was left.
