Chapter 2: The Queen's Command
The bedroom door clicked shut, but the world outside didn’t vanish. The thump of bass from the living room speaker bled through the wood, a distant heartbeat to the one hammering in Brandon’s chest. The air here was different—closer, hotter, saturated with the vanilla-whiskey scent of Gabby’s skin and the faint, clean linen of their laundry detergent trapped in the rumpled comforter.
Gabby released his hand. She turned to Savannah, who stood just inside the room, looking less like the quiet observer and more like a panther in the dim amber light of the single bedside lamp. Gabby’s expression was all focused intensity. She placed a hand on Savannah’s hip, a possessive, guiding touch.
“You were very persuasive on the couch,” Gabby said, her voice low.
“You were very receptive in the chair,” Savannah replied, a ghost of her earlier smile touching her lips.
Gabby’s gaze flicked to Brandon. “Lie down.”
It wasn’t a question. The command, delivered in that familiar, playful-yet-steady tone she used when winning a board game, sent a fresh jolt through him. He moved to the bed, the sheets cool against the back of his thighs as he sat, then leaned back on his elbows.
Savannah approached, her movements fluid. She stood before him, between his knees. She slowly removed her glasses, folding the arms with a precise click and setting them on the nightstand. The world softened at the edges for her, but her focus on him remained razor-sharp.
“He talks a good game about choice,” Gabby said from the foot of the bed, watching. “Let’s see how he behaves when the choices are made for him.”
Savannah nodded, her eyes never leaving Brandon’s. Her fingers went to the hem of his t-shirt. She didn’t yank it. She gathered the fabric slowly, her knuckles brushing his stomach, the defined lines of his abdomen tightening under her touch. She drew the shirt up, over his head, letting it drop to the floor. The cool air kissed his skin, but her gaze was warmer.
Her hands settled on his shoulders, then trailed down his chest. She leaned in, her dark hair falling forward to curtain their faces. Her kiss was different from the one on the couch—less experimental, more assured. It tasted of red wine and a decision firmly made. One of her hands slipped to the waistband of his jeans, fingers deftly finding the button.
Brandon broke the kiss, breathing hard. He looked past Savannah’s shoulder at his wife.
Gabby watched, enraptured. One hand was absently twisted in the curls at her own neck, her lips slightly parted. She saw him looking and raised an eyebrow, a silent well?
Savannah’s hand stilled. “Is this a yes?” she whispered against his mouth.
“It’s a hell yes,” Brandon breathed.
The button came undone. The zipper hissed. Savannah pushed the denim down over his hips, her touch businesslike yet intimate. He lifted his hips to help, and soon the jeans joined the shirt on the floor.
Gabby moved then. She didn’t rush. She crawled onto the foot of the bed with a predatory grace, the old mattress springs groaning softly under her weight. She moved up the length of his body, her eyes locked on his, until she was hovering over him, her curls tickling his face. She kissed him, deep and hungry, a reclaiming and a sharing all at once. Her tongue swept into his mouth, and he could taste the gin, the excitement, the sheer Gabby-ness of her.
As she kissed him, he felt Savannah’s hands, cooler, exploring the territory Gabby had just left. Savannah’s palms slid over his hips, down the outside of his thighs, then back up, inner this time, her touch light and maddening. She was learning the geography of him, and every nerve ending reported her progress directly to his brain, short-circuiting coherent thought.
Gabby pulled back, her breath coming in short, hot puffs. “Tell me,” she whispered, her eyes glittering.
“Tell you what?”
“What you’re thinking. Right now.”
He swallowed, his throat dry. “I’m thinking you’re terrifying. And spectacular.” His hand found her waist, where her skin was bare above her unbuttoned jeans. “I’m thinking I’ve never seen you like this.”
“Like what?”
“In charge.”
A slow, triumphant smile spread across her face. She looked over at Savannah, whose hands were now splayed on Brandon’s stomach. “He likes it,” Gabby said, as if sharing a fascinating piece of data.
“I can tell,” Savannah murmured, her fingers tracing a lower path.
The dynamic was clear, exhilarating, and utterly surreal. Gabby was the conductor, perched above him, dictating the tempo with her kisses and her questions. Savannah was the virtuoso, playing him with a meticulous, absorbed curiosity. He was the instrument, vibrating under their combined attention.
“Savannah,” Gabby said, her voice a husky command. “Lose the sweater.”
Savannah sat back on her heels, pulling her soft cashmere sweater up and off in one smooth motion. She wasn’t wearing a bra underneath. The lamplight caught the graceful lines of her torso, the shadow between her breasts. She didn’t pose; she simply was, confident and unashamed.
“Better,” Gabby breathed, her attention divided, her gaze drinking in the sight of the other woman. She leaned down and kissed Brandon again, but this time her hand left his face and reached out, her fingers brushing Savannah’s arm. A connection. A circuit completed.
The touch seemed to ignite something. Savannah lowered herself beside Brandon, her body aligning with his, skin to skin from shoulder to hip. Her mouth found his neck, her teeth grazing the tendon there. At the same time, Gabby’s mouth trailed down his chest, her tongue flicking over a nipple, then lower, following the trail of hair that led down from his navel.
Brandon gasped, his hands fistfuls of the sheets. The sensory overload was absolute—two sets of hands, two mouths, two distinct energies weaving around and through him. Gabby’s was fervent, possessive, driven by a hungry curiosity to see how far she could push them all. Savannah’s was analytical, precise, each touch and taste a data point collected.
“Gabby,” he managed to say.
She paused, looking up from where she’d been nibbling at his hip bone. “Hmm?”
He had no words. He just shook his head, a helpless, overwhelmed grin spreading across his face.
She understood. Her own grin was feral. “Good,” she said, and then her head dipped lower, her mouth closing over him, and the world contracted to a white-hot point of pleasure.
Savannah watched for a moment, her eyes dark, before capturing Brandon’s mouth again, swallowing his groan. Her hand slid down his body, not competing, but accompanying, her fingertips dancing alongside where Gabby’s mouth worked.
It was too much. It was not enough. Time lost its shape, measured only in heartbeats and hitched breaths. The music from the other room was a forgotten rumor. The only rhythms that mattered were here.
Just as the coil of tension in his gut was winding towards an unbearable pitch, Gabby pulled away. She crawled back up his body, her face flushed, her lips swollen. She kissed him, letting him taste himself on her tongue.
“Not yet,” she whispered, her voice ragged with authority. “My show. My pace.”
He nearly sobbed in frustration and admiration. She was dismantling him, piece by piece, and he was handing her the tools.
A sharp, sudden sound cut through the haze—a loud knock on the bedroom door, followed by the handle turning.
The door swung open.
Dani stood in the doorway, silhouetted by the brighter light from the hall. She held two fresh bottles of water. Her sleek hair was slightly mussed, the top buttons of her blouse undone. Her expression was unreadable.
Behind her, Brandon could see Johnny and Dylan frozen in the living room. Johnny was shirtless, looking like he’d been in mid-pace. Dylan was sitting on the arm of the couch, his face a mask of startled expectation.
No one spoke. The thudding music filled the silence.
Dani’s eyes swept the scene: Brandon, exposed and breathless; Savannah curled beside him, her body bare to the waist; Gabby straddling him, fiercely protective and disheveled.
A slow, approving smile touched Dani’s lips. It wasn’t jealousy. It was the satisfaction of a theorist seeing her prediction confirmed.
“Hydration break,” Dani announced, her voice cool and clear. She stepped into the room and placed the water bottles on the dresser with a soft thud. Her gaze lingered on Gabby. “The orchestra needs its conductor. The living room is… waiting for direction.”
She didn’t wait for a reply. She turned and walked out, leaving the door wide open.
The spell was fractured, but not broken. The wider world, the other half of their night, was now visibly, audibly present again. The questions hung in the air, mingling with the sweat and scent.
Gabby looked from the open door to Brandon’s face. The wild, controlling light in her eyes had banked, replaced by a new, calculating spark. The game had changed levels again. It was no longer contained to one room.
She leaned close, her lips against his ear. “You see?” she whispered, the words a promise and a threat. “It’s all about choice.” She kissed his cheek, then swung her leg over and stood up beside the bed, facing the open door. She didn’t cover herself. She picked up one of the water bottles, cracked it open, and took a long, deliberate swallow, her eyes on the figures in the living room.
She extended a hand back towards him, not looking.
“Come on,” Gabby said, her voice carrying into the next room. “Intermission’s over.”
