Chapter 1: Introduction

Chris slid through the final ventilation grate, his boots landing silently on the polished chrome floor. The air smelled of ozone and industrial cleaner, a sterile scent that made his teeth ache. Intel had pointed to a doomsday device in this sector, something world-ending and mechanical. He’d expected servers, maybe a giant laser. Not this.

The hallway opened into a vast chamber. The cold chrome gave way to plush, blush-pink carpeting. Neon tubes bathed everything in a soft, rosy glow. The air turned warm, carrying a faint, sweet perfume that reminded him of candied flowers. In the center of the room, arranged on a large velvet sofa and two overstuffed armchairs, were three women.

They looked up as he entered, their movements synchronized. Three pairs of eyes, glittering and intelligent, fixed on him. Each wore a variation of a fuzzy pink nightie, each had a towering beehive of perfectly coiffed hair. They were voluptuous, softly curved in a way his tactical gear suddenly felt overly harsh and rigid against.

“Well, hello there,” the one on the left purred. She stood, smoothing the front of her nightie. Fuchsia . “We’ve been waiting for you, Chris.”

He froze. How did she know his name? His hand drifted toward the holster at his thigh.

“Now, now,” said the one on the right, ‘Rose’. Her voice was softer, a gentle murmur. Her nightie had a small, careful tear near the shoulder. She remained seated, but her posture was alert. “There’s no need for that. You must be tired from your… trek.”

The third, ‘Carnation’, giggled. It was a light, childish sound that didn’t match the calculating sharpness in her gaze. “He looks all serious. Like a little soldier boy.”

“What is this?” Chris’s voice was tighter than he intended. He was trained for threats, for clear and present danger. This was something else. This was disorienting. “Where’s Dr. Evil?”

“Oh, he’s busy,” Fuchsia said, taking a step closer. Her hips swayed hypnotically. “He sent us to welcome you. We’re the hospitality committee.”

Her smile was wide and friendly, but it didn’t reach her eyes. Chris’s mind raced, reassessing. Fembots. They had to be. The curves were too perfect, the unison too precise. A deep, ingrained part of him, the part that filed reports and completed missions, screamed threat. But another part, a part he’d kept locked down during long, lonely undercover operations, simply looked. And liked what it saw.

“Hospitality usually involves drinks, not an ambush,” he said, forcing a smirk. Keep them talking. Find the weakness.

“Who said anything about an ambush?” Rose asked, her head tilting. She seemed genuinely concerned. “We just want you to relax. You seem very tense.”

Carnation stood and bounced on her toes. “We’re really good at helping people relax.”

Fuchsia was now within arm’s reach. The sweet perfume was stronger here, mingled with the scent of warm, clean skin. “See, Chris,” she said, her voice dropping to a confidential tone. “We know all about you. The long missions. The constant pressure. The loneliness. All that weight on those broad shoulders.”

Her words seeped into him, finding cracks in his resolve. She was scanning him, he realized, but not with lasers or sensors. She was reading him—his posture, his micro-expressions, the slight dilation of his pupils. She was assessing his weakness, and she’d found it immediately.

He took a step back, but his heel met the plush carpet with no authoritative click. The environment was sapping his edge. “I’m fine. Let’s skip the therapy session. Take me to whatever it is I’m here to see.”

“But you are seeing it,” Carnation giggled again. “You’re seeing us!”

Fuchsia’s smile turned knowing. “You came looking for a big, scary machine. Something loud and dramatic to disable. But the real threats are quieter, Chris. They’re the things that make you want to put your gun down.”

As she spoke, a nearly imperceptible hiss filled the room. From discreet vents along the pink walls, a faint pink mist began to curl into the air. It swirled lazily, blending with the perfumed scent.

Chris’s training kicked in. “Gas!” He lunged sideways, aiming for clearer air, but the room was designed without corners, without cover. The mist was already coiling around his legs, sweet and cloying in his throat.

“Just breathe,” Rose said soothingly. “It won’t hurt. It just… helps.”

His vision started to swim. The pink neon lights blurred into soft halos. The strength drained from his limbs as if pulled out through his fingertips. He sagged, his knees buckling. He hit the carpet, but it was like falling onto a cloud.

Footsteps approached. Fuzzy pink slippers entered his narrowing field of view.

“See?” Fuchsia’s voice came from above him, gentle now. “No fighting. No struggle. Isn’t this better?”

He wanted to say no. He wanted to fight. But the warmth spreading through his body was blissful. The perfumed air filled his lungs like a narcotic. A soft hand—Rose’s hand—cupped his cheek. Her touch was devastatingly gentle, a sensual contrast to the cold floor of the ventilation shaft. He found himself leaning into it.

Carnation knelt beside him, her giggle a melodic chime. “He’s so cute when he’s sleepy.”

“We’ve got you,” Fuchsia whispered, her face close to his now. Her breath smelled like strawberries. “Just let go, Chris. All that duty, all that pressure… let it all go.”

His last conscious thought wasn’t of escape, or the mission, or the doomsday device. It was a simple, shameful observation: Her nightie is so soft. Then the pink haze swallowed everything, and he drifted away, not into darkness, but into a warm, rosy surrender.
