Chapter 3: Collateral
The days after David’s promise of a meeting stretched like frayed wire. Sandra moved through her routines with a brittle focus, avoiding Carlos’s touch with excuses of fatigue, her body feeling like a crime scene awaiting investigation. The feminist journals on her desk gathered a fine layer of dust. Her life had bifurcated: the daylight version inhabited by a competent, slightly withdrawn woman, and the creature who came alive in the blue glow of her laptop, hungry for its next humiliation.
The command came on a Tuesday. Not a request. An instruction.
10 PM. Video call. Be ready.
No mention of what ‘ready’ meant. That was part of it. The ambiguity was a trap she willingly stepped into. At 9:55, she locked her office door, the click now a familiar prelude to surrender. She lit the lavender candle, its gentle scent a pathetic counterpoint to what was coming. She opened the laptop, opened the application, and saw the incoming request right on time. Her finger hovered. This was the threshold. Once she accepted, he would see her. The real her, in real time. There would be no deleting messages, no hiding behind textual fantasy.
She accepted.
His face filled the screen. He was exactly as she’d pictured from his descriptions and the single, blurred profile photo he’d once sent: silver hair swept back, sharp cheekbones, eyes the color of frost on slate. He sat in a leather chair, a wall of books behind him, a crystal glass of amber liquid in his hand. He looked affluent, composed, and utterly in control.
“Sandra.” His voice was quieter than she’d imagined, all the more compelling for its lack of volume. It was a voice meant for dark rooms and secrets. “Look at you. All coiled tension in that little sanctuary of yours.”
She managed a weak smile, saying nothing.
“Stand up,” he said. “Let me see you.”
She rose, the camera capturing her from the waist up. She wore a simple black t-shirt, no makeup.
“The rest,” he said, taking a slow sip from his glass. “All of it. Now.”
Her hands were cold as she grasped the hem of her shirt. She pulled it over her head, letting it fall to the floor. She avoided looking at her own image in the corner of the screen, focusing instead on his eyes, which watched with dispassionate appraisal. Her bra was next, then her jeans, her socks, her plain cotton underwear. Finally, she stood naked before the camera, the chill of the room raising goosebumps on her skin. She felt hyper-aware of every flaw, every curve, laid bare under his digital gaze.
“Turn around,” he instructed. “Slowly.”
She obeyed, rotating, feeling the exposure as a physical burn.
“Good. Sit back down. Keep your hands on the desk. Palms flat.”
She sat, the leather of her chair cool against her bare skin. She placed her hands on the worn wood, fingers splayed.
“Now, we talk,” he said, his tone conversational, as if discussing the weather. “You will answer my questions completely. You will not touch yourself. You will not squirm. If you do, I will end the call, and you will not hear from me for a week. Understood?”
The punishment was worse than any threat of pain. “Understood,” she whispered.
“First. Tell me about the last time your husband fucked you.”
She flinched. “David, I—”
“The question was clear. Answer it.”
She swallowed. “Two weeks ago. Maybe three.”
“Describe it.”
“It was… fine. Quick. In the dark. We were both tired.”
“He came. Did you?”
She looked down at her hands. “No.”
“Did you fake it?”
A hot tear escaped, tracking down her cheek. “Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s easier. Because he’d feel bad. Because I didn’t want to… bother.”
“Bother,” David repeated, letting the word hang. “You have a husband who cares about your pleasure, however ineptly, and you consider it a bother. Yet here you are, naked and dripping for a man who doesn’t give a single fuck about your pleasure, only your use. Are you dripping, Sandra?”
She clenched her thighs, a futile attempt to hide the undeniable, slick warmth there. “Yes.”
“Say it.”
“I’m dripping.”
“For me.”
“For you.”
“Good.” He leaned forward slightly, his face filling her screen. “Now, the next question. What do you crave from me that you have never had? Be specific. Use the ugly words.”
Her mind screamed a dozen versions of stop, this is wrong, you are violating yourself. Her body was a taut bowstring. The words came out in a choked rush. “I want to be… taken. Hard. I want to not be in control. I want to be called names. I want to be fucked like I’m nothing. Like a hole. I want to be used until I forget my own name.”
“What names do you want to be called?”
“Slut,” she breathed. “Whore. Cunt.”
“Your husband’s whore. My whore. Which are you?”
The division was the point, the blade he used to cleave her in two. “Yours,” she whimpered. “I’m your whore.”
“Prove it. Make a pledge. Say, ‘I, Sandra, pledge to deny my husband my cunt. It belongs to David now. I will only take his dick, or take nothing at all.’”
The air left her lungs. This was more than fantasy. This was sabotage. This was pouring poison directly into the well of her marriage. “I can’t,” she gasped.
“You can, and you will. Or I disconnect.” His finger moved, hovering near a key on his keyboard. “This is the line, Sandra. You either cross it, or you go back to your fine, safe little life. Choose.”
She saw the stack of unread feminist texts in her peripheral vision. The Second Sex. The Feminine Mystique. They were tombstones. She looked into David’s cold, expectant eyes. A strange calm descended. This was the lockpick turning. This was the door swinging open.
She lifted her chin, looked directly into the camera, and spoke clearly. “I, Sandra, pledge to deny my husband my cunt. It belongs to David now. I will only take his dick, or take nothing at all.”
A slow smile spread across his face. It held no warmth, only triumph. “Excellent. Now, you may touch yourself. Show me how much your body approves of its new ownership.”
A sob of release escaped her as her hands flew from the desk. One hand cupped her breast, pinching the nipple harshly, a pain that shot straight to her core. The other plunged between her legs, fingers sliding through the soaking wetness there. She was so aroused it felt violent.
“Look at you,” David murmured, his voice a low thrum. “A married woman, a thinker, a believer in her own autonomy, finger-fucking her desperate pussy on camera for a stranger. You are a perfect, beautiful hypocrite. Come for me. Come for your owner.”
His words were the final trigger. Her back arched, her mouth opened in a silent scream as the orgasm ripped through her, convulsing and stark, devoid of anything resembling love, pure in its abasement. She rode her own hand through the waves, milking the sensation, a shuddering mess under the unblinking eye of the webcam.
As the last tremors subsided, she slumped forward, sweat cooling on her skin.
“I recorded that,” David said casually. “The pledge, and your little performance. A valuable insurance policy, don’t you think? Now, clean yourself up. You have a husband in the other room. Remember your pledge.”
The screen went black.
She sat there for a long time, the scent of lavender and sex thick in the air. Slowly, mechanically, she dressed. She opened the door and walked down the hall. Mark was in bed, reading.
“Everything okay?” he asked, putting his book down. “You look flushed.”
“Just a long call,” she said, slipping under the covers, turning her back to him. “Work stuff.”
He touched her shoulder. “Want a back rub?”
Her body tensed. Her pledge echoed in her skull. I deny my husband my cunt.
“No,” she said, her voice tighter than she intended. “I’m just really tired.”
His hand retreated. “Okay. Night, hon.”
She lay awake long after his breathing deepened into sleep, feeling the ghost of her own fingers between her legs, and the new, cold shackle of the promise she had made. The recording existed. There was no going back. The freefall had truly begun.
