Chapter 2: Gains and Gains
The front door shuddered in its frame as Amy shouldered it open, the deadbolt clicking into place with a sound like a hammer falling. The air in the house, still and warm, was immediately carved by the cooler, diesel-scented draft from outside and the palpable heat rolling off her.
Her workout clothes were a second skin, a decade out of date. The nylon shorts strained across the dense curve of her glutes, the seams whispering threats of surrender. Her tank top, once loose, was glued to her torso by sweat, outlining every ridge of her abdomen, the deep cleft between her pectorals, the furious vascularity of her shoulders and arms. The pump was not a subtle thing; it was a physiological proclamation. Her biceps swelled against the armholes, full and hard as cantaloupes. She dropped her gym bag with a thud that echoed in the tidy silence.
“Derrick?”
He was in the living room, a shapeless form on the deep sofa, bathed in the blue glow of a stock market ticker. The remote was in his hand, but his eyes were elsewhere, fixed on some middle distance. The bowl in his lap was empty save for a few dustings of cheese-powder. He’d changed into sweatpants after work, the elastic waistband digging a deep, comfortable valley into the softening terrain of his stomach.
He looked up as she entered.
His mouth went dry. It happened every time now, this immediate, visceral reaction. She was a monument carved from something living, dripping with the evidence of her effort. It horrified him. It electrified him.
“Hey,” he managed, his voice faint.
Amy didn’t reply. She stalked past the sofa, a predator on a known trail, and into the open-plan kitchen. The fridge door opened with a suck of air. He heard the clatter of a container, the scrape of a chair. When she reappeared in the archway, she held a large, white bakery box. He knew what it was. Saturday’s ritual. A “weekend treat.” Glaze Craze.
But it wasn’t Saturday.
She placed the box on the coffee table, shoving his empty bowl aside. The sweet, greasy scent of fried dough and sugar icing instantly colonized the room. She popped the lid. Six donuts sat in neat parchment cups, glistening, absurd. Boston cream, strawberry frosted, chocolate sprinkle, two more of the maple bacon she knew he pretended to dislike but devoured, and a colossal apple fritter, oozing crumbling paste.
“I stopped by,” she said, her voice a low hum. She wasn’t looking at the donuts. She was looking at him, at the way the fabric of his shirt stretched over the new, gentle dome of his belly as he sat slouched. Her eyes were dark, pupils wide. “You seemed stressed earlier. Thought you could use a pick-me-up.”
“Amy, I…” He gestured weakly at the empty bowl. “I just had popcorn. I’m not really…”
“One.” It wasn’t a suggestion. It was a softly spoken decree. She picked up the apple fritter, a monstrous thing studded with fried, doughy clots. A chunk of apple filling plopped onto the box lid. “For me.”
She stepped over the coffee table, a move of unsettling athleticism, and knelt on the sofa, straddling his lap before he could process the movement. Her thighs, solid as seasoned oak, caged his hips. The hot, damp fabric of her shorts pressed against him. The smell of her sweat, saltsharp and musky, mixed with the cloying sugar. He was pinned, utterly, by her presence and her weight.
She brought the fritter to his lips. “Come on. You love these.”
He turned his head, a futile gesture of rebellion. “Amy, seriously, I don’t want it.”
Her free hand, the one that had curled the 45-pound dumbbells that morning, came up and cupped his jaw. Her fingers were strong, insistent. They turned his face back towards hers, towards the dripping pastry. Her thumb brushed his lips. Her expression was one of exaggerated, mocking pity. “Poor guy. Had a long day. Let me take care of you.”
There was a flare of anger then, hot and bright. He tried to shove her hand away. It was like pushing against a parked car. She didn’t budge. A smile touched her lips, a flash of genuine delight at his resistance. It vanished, replaced by a placid, unnerving calm.
“Open,” she whispered.
The humiliation was a live wire in his chest. But beneath it, coiling low in his gut, was that other thing, the traitorous pulse that quickened at her dominance, at the sheer, impossible strength of her. His jaw went slack, defeated.
She pushed the fritter into his mouth. Sweet, gritty glaze coated his lips. The fried dough was airy yet leaden. He took an automatic bite, a muffled protest dying in his throat as she watched, intently, as his jaw worked.
“Good,” she crooned. She took another bite herself, not of the fritter, but of the space beside his ear, her teeth grazing his lobe. He flinched. “My good boy.”
She fed him another bite. And another. Crumbs tumbled down his front, catching in the fabric of his shirt. He chewed, the act becoming mechanical, dissociated. His body was buzzing with conflicting signals—shame, anger, a thick, creeping arousal. She was a furnace on his lap, her muscles coiled even in repose.
When half the fritter was gone, she set the remainder aside. Her sugar-sticky fingers went to the waistband of his sweatpants, dipping beneath the elastic. He gasped as her cool, calloused hand found him, already hardening despite the churning in his mind. Her grasp was firm, expert, devoid of tenderness.
“See?” she breathed into his mouth, her breath smelling of iron and ambition. “You do want it.”
She shoved his sweatpants down with a rough, efficient tug. He was exposed, vulnerable, trapped beneath the dense, sweaty monument of her. She didn’t bother removing her shorts; she just shifted the damp fabric aside. She guided him into her, sinking down with a slow, inexorable pressure that forced the air from his lungs in a grunt.
She began to move. It wasn’t lovemaking. It was a demonstration. A claiming. Each lift and drop of her hips was powered by the formidable engine of her glutes and thighs, muscles he could see clenching and releasing beneath the taut nylon. Her breath came in controlled, rhythmic huffs against his neck. One of her hands braced against the back of the sofa behind his head, the bicep swelling into a perfect, veined globe beside his ear. The other hand wandered down, past where their bodies were joined, and settled on his stomach.
She kneaded the soft flesh there as she rode him, her fingers digging in with a possessive pressure. Each thrust pushed his body back into the sofa, making the new padding of his midsection jiggle slightly. She watched her own hand work, a fascinated, hungry look on her face.
“Look at this,” she murmured, more to herself than to him. “Getting so soft for me. So perfect.” She leaned down, her sweat dripping onto his chest, and kissed him, deep and invasive. When she broke away, her voice was guttural. “You’re mine. All of this is mine. You eat what I give you. You take what I give you.”
He was crumbling. The pleasure was intense, shameful, obliterating. His hands, which had lain useless at his sides, finally came up to grip her hips, seeking some anchor in the storm. He could barely get his fingers around them. The muscle there was unforgiving, a solid rack of power driving him down into the cushions.
Her pace increased, grew punishing. The sofa springs cried out in a frantic rhythm. The bakery box trembled on the table. Her focus was absolute, her movements clinical in their efficiency, geared towards a singular end. Her hand on his stomach clenched, a firm, owning grip.
“Come for me,” she commanded, her voice hitting a strange, resonant note that was both a promise and a threat.
And he did. Helplessly, explosively, a wave of sensation that tore through him and left him empty. A strangled sound escaped him, part sob, part surrender.
She milked him through it, her own rhythm stuttering to a slow, grinding halt. She didn’t seem to chase her own climax; her satisfaction was elsewhere, in his submission, in the feel of his softness under her hand, in the visual proof of her control.
For a long minute, there was only the sound of their ragged breathing and the faint, sugary scent of the forgotten donuts. She finally lifted herself off him, the movement fluid and easy. She looked down at him, sprawled and spent, sweatpants around his thighs, his stomach exposed and glistening with a faint sheen of perspiration.
She reached for the box, picked up the remains of the apple fritter, and placed it gently on his bare stomach. It lay there, a grotesque, crumbly crown.
“Finish it,” she said, her tone light, almost conversational, as she wiped her hands on her shorts. “I’m going to shower.” She turned and walked away, the powerful sweep of her back muscles flexing with each step.
Derrick lay there, staring at the ceiling, the warm, greasy weight on his skin feeling like a brand. The emptiness inside him was total. He could hear the shower turn on, the rush of water a distant roar.
Slowly, mechanically, his hand rose. His fingers closed around the sticky pastry. He brought it to his mouth. He took a bite. He chewed. The sweetness was cloying, nauseating. He swallowed.
He took another bite.
He chewed slowly, the silence in the room broken only by the distant rush of the shower. The fritter was a gluey mass in his mouth, oversweet and turning to paste. He swallowed with effort, the act feeling like a confession. He set the remaining piece on the coffee table, a greasy monument to his compliance, and pulled his sweatpants up over his hips. His body felt used, hollowed out, and strangely heavy.
The shower cut off. He stiffened, listening to the drip of water, the slide of the glass door, the quiet thud of her feet on the bathmat. He quickly wiped the crumbs from his stomach and shirt, a futile attempt to erase the evidence. He was staring blankly at the financial news ticker, its scrolling numbers meaningless, when she padded into the living room.
Her hair was damp, dark against her shoulders, which seemed even broader clean and bare. She wore only a towel wrapped snug around her torso, her legs and arms, thickly carved and lean, on full display. Water droplets clung to the contours of her clavicles. Her eyes scanned the room, landing on the empty bakery box, then on his face.
“All done?” she asked, her voice neutral.
Derrick nodded, forcing a tight smile. “Yeah. It was… good. Thanks.”
A flicker of movement caught his eye. He’d missed one. A single, perfect glazed donut sat on the far corner of the table, half-hidden by a magazine. A final escapee. He leaned over quickly, grabbed it, and took a large, defiant bite. The sugar crackled between his teeth. He chewed with exaggerated vigor, meeting her gaze. See? I finished it. I’m still in control here.
Amy watched him, her head tilted slightly. Her expression was unreadable for a moment. Then a slow, knowing smile spread across her lips. It didn’t reach her eyes. It was the smile of someone holding four aces.
“Good,” she repeated, softly. She turned and walked back toward the kitchen, the towel shifting over the powerful sweep of her back. “Because I got a little carried away at the bakery.”
Derrick froze, the last of the donut turning to lead in his mouth. The chewing stopped. A cold drip of dread traced his spine. He heard the sound of the pantry door opening. A grunt of effort, the rustle of multiple paper bags.
She re-emerged, and his breath caught.
In each hand, Amy carried two stacked white bakery boxes, tied with string. She dropped them onto the coffee table with a soft, ponderous thud that shook the floor. They formed a small, square tower. Then she turned and retrieved a fifth box from the kitchen, placing it with deliberate care on top of the stack.
Five boxes. Five dozen donuts.
Sixty of them.
The sheer, ridiculous volume of it was a physical blow. The clean, lemony scent of her shower was utterly vanquished by the overwhelming cloud of sugar and frying oil that now billowed from the pile.
“They had a bulk discount,” she said, as if explaining a sensible grocery purchase. Her tone was light, conversational. She untied the string on the top box and flipped the lid open. It was a crowded mosaic of glazed rings, chocolate-dipped, sprinkle-covered, jelly-filled. A kaleidoscope of empty calories.
Derrick’s brief, crumbling triumph evaporated. Panic, cold and sharp, clamped around his ribs. His stomach, already full of popcorn and the heavy fritter, gave a sickly lurch. “Amy… what the hell? I can’t… This is insane.”
“It’s for later,” she said, her voice dropping to that low, intimate register that bypassed his logic and went straight to his nervous system. She came around the table. The towel loosened, slipping down to cradle the impressive swell of her chest. She knelt before him where he sat paralyzed on the sofa, her knees on the floor between his legs. Her presence was overwhelming.
Her hands, still slightly damp and cool, pushed his shirt up. They settled on the bare skin of his stomach, which was no longer flat but a soft, definite curve. She rubbed gently, her thumbs making slow circles. “Look at this,” she murmured, her eyes fixed on the gentle slope. “It’s really starting. You’re so soft.”
Her touch, so possessive and admiring, sent a conflicting jolt through him. Humiliation burned his cheeks. At the same time, a traitorous warmth stirred low in his gut, a reflex as conditioned as Pavlov’s dog. He was hardening again, painfully fast, beneath his sweatpants.
Amy saw it. Her smile deepened. Without breaking eye contact, she hooked her fingers into his waistband and pulled them down just enough. She took him in her mouth.
The sensation was a lightning bolt of pure, shocking pleasure, tearing through the fog of his panic and shame. He gasped, his head thudding back against the couch. Her technique was ruthless, expert, all consuming pressure and rhythmic purpose. It was a reward and a punishment bundled into one devastating act.
Her hands never left his stomach. She kept rubbing as she worked him, her fingers kneading the soft flesh in time with her movements. She pulled back for a moment, her lips glistening. Her eyes locked on his, glazed with a dark, hungry pleasure. She gestured with her chin toward the open box beside them.
“Eat,” she said, the word a blunt, wet command.
Derrick’s mind screamed. His body, electrified and compliant, moved on its own. His hand trembled as he reached out. His fingers closed around a glazed ring. He brought it to his mouth. He took a bite. The sweetness was cloying, overwhelming. He chewed, the sound loud in his ears, his jaw working mechanically.
Amy took him deep again, a muffled sound of approval vibrating through him. The dual sensations were unbearable, a dizzying loop of abasement and intense pleasure. Each time he swallowed a bite of the donut, her ministrations grew more enthusiastic, as if she were feeding on his submission itself.
He ate another. And another. The sugar coated his tongue, his throat. His stomach distended, a dull, bloated ache forming beneath her caressing hand. He lost count. The world narrowed to the rhythm: bite, chew, swallow, the hot suction of her mouth, the relentless, approving kneading of his softening middle. He was no longer a person making a choice. He was a process she had set in motion, a machine of consumption and response, fueled by shame and a need for her approval that ran deeper than any pride.
He was a process she had set in motion, a machine of consumption and response, fueled by shame and a need for her approval that ran deeper than any pride. The donut boxes emptied, one by one, over the following days. They appeared in his lunch bag, replaced the fruit bowl on the counter, were waiting on his pillow. His protests grew weaker, then silent, then transformed into a sullen, compliant chewing. His world became a haze of sugar, salt, and the constant, admiring pressure of her hands on his softening form.
As weeks passed, Derrick expanded larger and larger. The constant march of food from Amy—the giant breakfast burritos, the creamy pasta dinners for two he was expected to finish, the nightly “snacks” of whole pints of ice cream fed to him spoon by spoon—reshaped him. His body softened, then rounded, then began to strain at seams. He watched in sullen horror as the number climbed on the scale, a digital judge recording his descent. Forty pounds. Then sixty.
His old life shed like a skin. Suit jackets pulled across his back and shoulders, not from muscle but from a new, padding fat. He switched to elastic-waist trousers, then to the kind of loose, forgiving joggers he’d once pitied other men for wearing. Getting off the sofa required a grunt and a push. Tying his shoes was a battle of breath and bending. Each new limitation was a quiet humiliation she witnessed with glowing eyes.
Amy, meanwhile, hardened. Her muscles split and knit themselves into thicker, more imposing cables. She moved through the house with a ballistic grace, a perpetual energy thrumming under her skin. The contrast was a living theater performed just for them. She would come home from a brutal leg day, quads etched with striations, and find him drowsing on the couch, a empty chip bag on his chest.
“Make room,” she’d say, her voice warm but unquestionable.
He’d shift, his movements ponderous, and she’d fold her powerful frame onto the cushion, pulling his head into her lap. Her fingers, tracing the shell of his ear, would drift down to massage the back of his neck, then slide around to cup the full, burgeoning curve of his jawline. She’d stroke the nascent second chin with her thumb.
“Getting so handsome,” she’d murmur, as if to herself. “So solid.”
One humid Thursday evening, the ritual found its apex. She’d ordered a massive, family-style pizza—extra cheese, double pepperoni, stuffed crust. The box covered the entire coffee table. A chemical, greasy perfume filled the room. Derrick stared at it, his stomach already groaning from the heavy stew she’d made him finish at lunch.
“Amy, I can’t,” he said, the plea genuine. “I’ll be sick.”
“Sure you can,” she said, pulling a slice free. Cheese stretched into long, oily ropes. “We’re celebrating. I hit a new PR on the squat rack.” She said it casually, but pride vibrated beneath the words. “Two-eighty for five. Felt easy.”
The number was staggering. It was more than double his body weight now. He felt a dizzying wave of inadequacy. She stood before him, a slice in one hand, the other planted on her hip, her tank top stretching over a torso that looked carved from granite. Her bicep curved, round and hard as a bowling ball. He was a soft, spreading blot beside her.
“Come on,” she coaxed, her voice dropping to that intimate, dangerous register. “Fuel for me. I need to keep my energy up.” The unspoken threat lingered. If he didn’t eat, she’d take what she needed anyway, and he’d be left even more profoundly depleted.
He took the slice. The first bite was pure grease, the pepperoni slick and salty. He chewed slowly, each swallow a conscious effort. She watched, her gaze rapt, as he made his way through it. When he finished, she handed him another. And another.
She didn’t eat. She just fed. She’d take bites from his slices sometimes, her teeth flashing, but only to initiate the next mouthful for him, placing the remainder back in his hand. Her focus was absolute. His chewing grew slower, his jaw aching. A dense, swollen fullness pushed at his ribs. He felt like a suitcase overstuffed with wet clothes.
“I’m gonna burst,” he groaned, leaning back, his hands splayed on the dome of his belly.
“Shh,” she soothed. She moved the pizza box and slid onto the couch beside him, her body a hot, solid line against his softer one. “Almost done.” Her arm snaked around his shoulders, her hand coming to rest on the pronounced swell of his stomach. She began to rub in slow, firm circles, her powerful fingers working into the dense, bloated flesh.
He flinched, but the pressure was weirdly palliative, helping the congestion settle. It was also profoundly infantilizing. He was being burped. Her other hand brought another slice to his lips. “Last one. For me.”
He opened his mouth. He had to. The need to please her, to appease the glorious, terrifying engine of her will, was neurological now. He took a bite, the cheese like glue in his mouth. She rubbed his gut in a slow, clockwise motion, her touch possessive, clinical, and oddly tender all at once.
“There,” she whispered, as he swallowed the final mouthful. “All full.” Her hand slid down from his stomach, over the elastic band of his joggers, finding him hard amidst the misery of his bloat. The contradiction was absolute. His body was a traitor. She smiled, reading his arousal as the purest form of compliment. She leaned in, her lips brushing his ear. Her free hand came up and tilted his chin, forcing him to look up at her. She had to be fully six inches taller than him now, an unassailable fact.
“My little fat boy,” she cooed, the endearment a velvet-wrapped brand.
