Chapter 1: Introduction
The neon lights of the city flickered against Mike’s window, casting an eerie glow on the drab bedroom he had called home for the past few months. His eyes were heavy with the weight of another sleepless night, his mind racing with the same old thoughts—where had he gone wrong? How had he gotten to this point?
He was a 30-year-old man, for God's sake, not some hopeless kid. Yet here he was, trapped in a life that felt more like a nightmare than reality.
His bare apartment was a testament to his struggles, the walls bare, the furniture minimal, and the echo of his own thoughts the only company he had. The city outside was a gritty symphony of honking cars and distant sirens, a reminder of the world he was desperately trying to stay afloat in.
The morning light crept in through the window, illuminating the grimy floorboards. He dragged himself out of bed, his bones aching from the hard mattress and the sleepless nights.
The kitchen was a small, cramped space with a single window overlooking a grimy alley. He poured himself a cup of coffee, the smell as bitter as his mood. The coffee was instant, the cheapest he could find, but it was enough to jolt him out of his early morning stupor.
As he sat at the small table, the silence of his apartment was broken by the sudden thumping of bass from the street below. He looked out the window to see a group of men gathered around a flashy car. They were laughing, their voices booming, their expressions cocky. He recognized them instantly—The Bullys, as they called themselves.
They were a group of men who had taken control of Mike's life and forced him into servitude. They were cruel, sadistic, and had no qualms about humiliating Mike for their own amusement. Their leader, a burly man with a scar running down his cheek, spotted Mike at the window and waved him down.
Mike sighed, his coffee growing colder by the second. He knew better than to ignore them. With a heavy heart, he grabbed his keys and made his way downstairs. The sun was a harsh glare against the concrete, and the city smelled of exhaust and sweat. The Bullys were leaning against their car, their eyes gleaming with malice.
The leader, a man they called "Scar", smirked as Mike approached. "Morning, Mike," he said, his voice a low growl. "You look like shit."
Mike shrugged, trying to act nonchalant. "Yeah, well, it's been a long night."
Scar laughed, a sound that sent shivers down Mike's spine. "Tough luck, kid. You're on the job today."
Mike's stomach dropped. He hadn't been expecting this. "What? I thought I had the day off."
Scar shook his head, his scar stretching with the motion.
"Nah, man. We've got a client today, and you're the main course."
Mike's heart sank, but he knew better than to argue. He nodded, trying to keep his expression neutral. "Alright, let's go."
Scar chuckled and pushed off the car. "Atta boy. You're learning."
The drive to the club was silent, save for the occasional taunt from one of The Bullys. Mike sat in the back, his hands folded in his lap, his eyes closed. He tried to focus on anything but the task ahead.
His mind drifted to the first time he had met The Bullys, at a seedy bar downtown. He had been desperate for work, any work, and they had offered him a "unique opportunity." He should have known better, should have run the other way, but desperation has a way of clouding judgment.
The car screeched to a halt in front of a nondescript building. The sign above the door read "The Iron Horse," a name that sounded more like a biker bar than the secretive club it was. The Bullys piled out of the car, their laughter echoing off the grimy walls. Mike followed, his steps heavy.
The Iron Horse was a place he had grown to dread, a place where humiliation was the currency and degradation was the norm. He stepped inside, the air thick with the smell of smoke and cheap perfume. The room was dimly lit, the shadows hiding the worst parts of the club.
A woman with fiery red hair and a tight black dress approached them. "Welcome back, boys," she purred, her eyes scanning Mike with a hungry expression. "You've brought the main attraction, I see."
Scar grinned, his eyes lingering on Mike. "That's right, Darla.
