Chapter 2: Building Tension
The office was buzzing with the usual mid-morning chatter, but all I could focus on was the sound of Teddy's laughter echoing down the hall. It was a deep, rumbling sound that seemed to vibrate through me, sending shivers down my spine and heat rushing to my cheeks. I shook my head, irritated with myself for being so affected by him. He was everything I hated—arrogant, entitled, and on the wrong side of the political spectrum. Yet, here I was, day in and day out, finding myself drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
It was infuriating, but there was no denying the raw magnetism that radiated from him. Over the next few weeks, I tried my best to keep my distance, both physically and metaphorically. But it seemed that every time I turned around, there he was, smirking and taunting me with his political views or his designer suits.
One day, as I was working late in my cubicle, I felt a presence behind me. Before I could turn around, a deep voice rumbled, "Still here, I see." I recognized the voice immediately and suppressed a sigh.
"Still here, I see," Teddy repeated, leaning against the edge of my cubicle. "Looks like someone's a dedicated worker.
Me? I'm all about work-life balance. A man needs his leisure time, you know."
I turned in my chair to face him, trying to hide my exasperation. "Yeah, well, some of us don't have trust funds to fall back on if we decide to take an extended vacation," I said, my tone laced with enough sarcasm to make my point clear.
Teddy laughed, undeterred. "Touché, Reed. But you could learn a thing or two about relaxation.
Look at me, taking it easy, enjoying life." Teddy turned to the side, gesturing to his body as if it were a work of art. I couldn't help but notice the noticeable increase in his size, particularly in his lower half. It was as if he had been stuffing himself with steaks and potatoes for months, and the evidence was now plainly visible in his expanded waistline and rounder backside. I quickly averted my gaze, trying not to let my surprise show.
"You're right," I said, feigning nonchalance.
"You do look like you've been enjoying life quite a bit." I tried to keep my tone casual, but I couldn't help noticing the obvious changes in Teddy's physique. His once lean frame was now more robust, with added weight distributed mostly around his midsection and hips. The transformation was striking, to say the least.
Teddy chuckled, seemingly oblivious to my sudden scrutiny. "Well, you know what they say, Reed—a man needs to indulge in the finer things in life. And what better way to do that than with some fine dining and even finer wine?" He winked, clearly pleased with himself. "Besides, a little extra padding never hurt anyone."
I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "A little extra padding? Teddy, you've gone from 'slim fit' to 'dad bod' in record time.
I'm impressed," I remarked, trying to keep my tone light and teasing. As the words left my mouth, I realized my gaze had lingered a little longer than necessary on his newly acquired curves. Before I could look away, Teddy caught my eye and a slow, knowing smile spread across his face.
"Oh, Madison," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "You're not the first to notice, and I'm sure you won't be the last. But what can I say? Some of us just have a natural talent for... expansion." He let the word hang in the air for a moment, as if challenging me to comment further.
I felt a flush of embarrassment creeping up my neck, but I refused to let Teddy see how rattled I was. "Well, whatever you're doing, it's certainly working," I said, trying to maintain my cool.
Teddy laughed, a deep, hearty sound that filled the small cubicle. It was a sound that seemed to come from deep within him, resonating in his chest and amplifying his presence. "You should see the looks I get when I walk into a room now," he said, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "It's like everyone knows I've been living my best life, and they're just a little bit jealous." He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You jealous, Madison?"
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't help the small smile that tugged at the corners of my mouth. "Jealous? Of the extra weight you're carrying around? No, Teddy. Not really."
Teddy chuckled again, undeterred by my response. "Oh, come on, Reed.
Jealousy looks good on you," Teddy insisted, his smile widening. "You see, this right here"—he gestured to his expanded waistline—"is the American dream in action. I indulge, I enjoy, and I grow. It's the very essence of our great nation's philosophy: if you've got it, flaunt it."
I raised an eyebrow, skepticism coloring my tone. "And you think that's something to be proud of? Gluttony as the American ideal?" I couldn't help but feel a pang of irritation at his blatant disregard for healthy living and his seemingly willful ignorance of the consequences of his actions.
Teddy waved a hand dismissively, his smile never fading. "Gluttony? Hardly.
But as I cast a quick glance at Teddy's newly acquired curves, I couldn't help but notice the way his tailored suit hugged his expanded frame, accentuating the fullness of his hips and the subtle rounding of his stomach. It was an enticing sight, and for a fleeting moment, I found myself imagining what those soft, inviting curves would feel like under my hands. I quickly averted my gaze, feeling a flush of heat spread across my cheeks as I realized where my thoughts had wandered.
"Madison?" Teddy prompted, a hint of amusement in his voice as he caught me staring. "You alright there? You look a little... flustered."
I cleared my throat, trying to regain my composure. "I'm fine, Teddy. Just...
focusing on something else for a moment," I stammered, trying to play off my sudden discomfort.
Teddy's eyes narrowed, and he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a teasing whisper. "Something else, hmm? Like what, exactly?"
I swallowed hard, feeling the heat in my cheeks intensify. "I, uh... I need to use the restroom," I blurted out, seizing the first excuse that came to mind.
Teddy's eyebrows shot up, surprise and amusement warring in his expression. "The restroom? Now? But we were just getting to the good part," he protested, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
I stood up abruptly, trying to put some distance between us. "Well, nature calls, and I can't exactly...
