Chapter 3: The God's Appetite
The air in the communal hall was a solid, fragrant thing. It pressed against the skin, warm and damp, carrying the scent of roasting tubers, strange spiced fruits, and the underlying, ever-present musk of female bodies. Above, the ceiling wasn't dark. It crawled with light—thousands of bioluminescent vines pulsed with a soft, blue-green glow, like a captured piece of the sea at night. Their light fell on the gathered women, highlighting the impossible swell of breasts barely contained in woven tops, the wide, inviting curves of hips, the lazy, hungry smiles.
At the center of it all, on a bench that was more of a throne, Jimmy ate.
Platters made of dark, polished wood covered the low table in front of him. He tore into a joint of some glistening, sweet-smelling meat, grease shining on his chin. A woman with hair the color of rust and breasts so large she had to cradle them with one arm leaned over him, refilling his cup with a syrupy, fermented drink. Her nipple, thick and dark, brushed against his shoulder. She didn’t flinch away. She lingered, breathing him in.
Another, younger with nervous eyes and a mouth that wouldn’t stop smiling, knelt beside the table, her hands trembling as she offered him a bowl of peeled, jewel-toned fruit. Her gaze was fixed on the powerful movement of his jaw, the ripple in his throat as he swallowed.
Lena was on the floor, her back against the front of his bench, her head resting against his thigh. One of his hands was buried in her hair, idly stroking, possessive. She held her own cup but didn’t drink much. She was swimming in the sensation, the adoration that wasn’t for her, but flowed through her by proxy. It was a narcotic. The pragmatic voice in her head was a distant, feeble whisper. This is insane. You’re a pet. The new voice, the one warmed by the island’s hum and the memory of his taste, purred back. This is power. You’re the favorite.
“The yams are good,” Jimmy announced to no one in particular, his voice booming with contentment. He took another handful, stuffing them into his mouth. “Really good. What’s in them?”
The rust-haired woman, Elara had called her Kira, beamed as if he’d awarded her a prize. “A root from the eastern bog, my lord. It promotes… vitality.” Her eyes darted down, then back up, full of meaning.
Jimmy laughed, a sound that cut through the low murmur of the hall. “Yeah? Well, keep ‘em coming.” He squeezed Lena’s shoulder. “You eating, babe?”
Lena nodded, tilting her head back to look up at him. The upside-down view—his strong chin, the satisfied curve of his lips—made her stomach flip. “I’m fine,” she murmured. Feasting on this, she thought.
The double doors at the far end of the hall, made of woven reeds, swung open.
A new tension entered the room, a shift in the thick air. The serving women paused, their hands stilling. Lena felt Jimmy’s thigh muscle tighten under her cheek.
Two figures stood silhouetted against the deeper darkness outside.
One was all contained energy, a compact, athletic build even from this distance, with a proud stance and hands on hips. The other was softer, rounder, hovering half a step behind as if trying to hide in the first woman’s shadow.
“Ah,” Kira murmured, a note of something like pity in her voice. “The holdouts.”
Jimmy wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his interest thoroughly caught. “Who are they?”
“Suki and Mira,” Kira said, lowering her voice. “They have… resisted the current. They kept to the eastern huts. Suki is strong-willed. Mira is afraid.” She leaned closer, her breath hot on his ear. “But the island brings all to the source, eventually.”
Suki stepped forward first, into the vine-light. She was gorgeous in a fierce, competitive way. Her body was a powerful hourglass, muscles taut under smooth skin, her breasts full and high. She wore a simple sleeveless tunic tied at her waist, leaving her legs bare. Her dark hair was tied back in a practical knot. Her eyes, sharp and intelligent, scanned the room, taking in the worshipful tableau, the women clustered around Jimmy, Lena at his feet. A flicker of disbelief, then outright challenge, crossed her face.
Mira followed, clinging to the shadows near the wall. She was taller than Suki, but she folded in on herself, shoulders rounded. Her body was lush in a different way—softer, fuller, with heavy, pendulous breasts that moved with a gentle weight beneath her loose dress. Her hair was a cloud of light brown curls around a face that was both beautiful and etched with anxiety. Her hands twisted together in front of her.
“So this is the big deal?” Suki’s voice cut through the quiet, loud and laced with sarcasm. It was a voice used to being heard. She took a few more steps into the hall, her gaze landing squarely on Jimmy. “The ‘source’? You’re just a guy.”
A collective inhale swept through the women. Someone gasped. It was heresy.
Jimmy didn’t look angry. He looked amused. He leaned back, spreading his arms along the back of the bench, making his chest look even broader. “Just a guy who’s eating your best yams,” he said easily, a grin playing on his lips. “They’re really good. You should try some.”
Suki’s eyes narrowed. She’d expected bluster, arrogance maybe. The casual, unshakable confidence threw her. She walked closer, her athletic stride confident. The women parted for her, some watching with apprehension, others with a kind of hungry curiosity. She stopped a few feet from the table, ignoring Lena completely, her focus entirely on Jimmy.
“We heard the stories,” Suki said, crossing her arms. The motion lifted her breasts. “The beach. The bamboo house. Sounds like a lot of theater to me.”
“Seeing’s believing,” Jimmy replied. His eyes weren’t on her face. They were traveling over her body, an appraising, leisurely scan that felt more intimate than a touch. He lingered on the swell of her chest, the cut of her hips. “You’ve got a good frame. Solid.”
Suki flushed, the cocky demeanor cracking for a second. Being assessed like livestock was unnerving. “My ‘frame’ is none of your business.”
“Everything here is my business,” Jimmy said, and the lightness was gone, replaced by a flat, unassailable certainty. He shifted forward, the bench creaking. The movement made the torchlight dance over the defined mountains of his shoulders. “Ask anyone.”
Suki’s gaze flickered to the women. She saw their faces. Not fear, but a breathless anticipation. They were waiting for her to bend. Her competitive spirit, the part that loved to win, to tease, to be the strongest, flared up. This was a challenge. She wouldn’t just kneel because some ripped dude with a god complex said so.
But then the island’s hum, which she’d been steadfastly ignoring for days, seemed to focus. It wasn’t a sound in the ears. It was a vibration in the pelvis, a sudden, warm flush under the skin. She felt a strange, pulling heaviness in her breasts. A faint, delicious ache.
Jimmy saw the change. The slight unsteadiness in her posture. The way her crossed arms loosened, as if suddenly self-conscious. His grin returned. “Kira, get our guest a plate. She looks hungry.”
Suki opened her mouth to refuse, but Kira was already there, pressing a laden plate into her hands. The smell of the food—the rich meat, the spiced yams—was suddenly overwhelming. Her stomach growled, loudly. She hadn’t realized how famished she was.
“Sit,” Jimmy said, gesturing to the space on the bench beside him. It wasn’t a request.
Hating herself, her body moving on its own, Suki sat. The wood was still warm from him. His presence was a physical force, a heat-radiating pillar next to her. The hum got louder, the ache in her breasts deepening into a tender, swollen need. She picked up a yam with her fingers, refusing to look at him, and took a bite. It was incredible. The flavor exploded on her tongue, sweet and earthy and profoundly satisfying. A soft, involuntary moan escaped her.
Jimmy’s chuckle was a low rumble. “Told you.”
He then turned his attention to the shadow by the wall. “You. Mira, right? You planning to stand there all night?”
Mira jolted as if slapped. All eyes turned to her. She wanted to sink into the earth. The exposure was agony. She’d spent her time here sketching the flora, avoiding the gatherings, feeling the strange, yearning pull in her body and locking it away in a box of shame. She saw what it did to people. She saw Elara, a woman of immense dignity, walking differently today, her eyes downcast in a way that wasn’t submission but saturation.
“I… I’m fine,” Mira whispered, but her voice didn’t carry.
“No you’re not,” Jimmy said, his voice surprisingly gentle, but no less firm. “You’re starving. Come eat.”
His tone, that specific blend of command and care, unstitched something in Mira’s chest. A tear escaped, tracing a path down her cheek. She’d been so afraid. Of the longing, of her own body, of this exact moment. But his command cut through the paralysis. It was an order, and part of her craved nothing more than to obey, to have the complexity of her fear replaced by simple direction.
She stepped forward, her movements shy and graceful. The vine-light caught the full, heavy curves of her body, the gentle sway of her breasts, the soft roundness of her belly and hips. She was a vision of ripe, yielding femininity, and a sigh seemed to go through the men present—the few small, slight men who served as cooks and tenders, huddled near the fire. They looked at her, then at Jimmy, and their shoulders slumped in unconscious resignation.
Mira didn’t go to the bench. She went to the spot on the floor near Jimmy’s feet, mirroring Lena but on his other side. She sank down with a natural grace, folding her legs beneath her. She didn’t look up at him. She just bowed her head, her cascade of curls hiding her face.
Jimmy reached down. Not with the casual ownership he used with Lena, but with a slower, more deliberate touch. He tucked a curl behind Mira’s ear, his fingers brushing her hot cheek. “There,” he said softly. “That’s better.”
The touch was an electric current. Mira shuddered, a fresh wave of tears falling silently. It wasn’t pain. It was a relief so profound it felt like pain. The shame didn’t vanish, but it transformed, melting into a warm pool of accepted devotion. She was his. The thought was terrifying and utterly peaceful.
Kira brought a plate and placed it on the floor before Mira. Mira ate with small, delicate bites, her eyes never leaving the ground.
Jimmy returned his attention to Suki, who was chewing aggressively, trying to ignore the strange, tightening feeling in her tunic. The fabric across her chest was becoming strained. The gentle ache had become a persistent, throbbing fullness.
“So,” Jimmy said, leaning close to her. His scent—sweat, salt, male dominance—filled her nostrils. “You think this is theater.”
Suki forced herself to meet his eyes. “I think people are easily impressed.”
He nodded slowly, as if considering her point. Then his hand came up, and he brushed the back of his knuckles against the side of her breast, right where the fabric was tautest.
It wasn’t a grab. It was a casual, almost accidental touch.
Suki gasped. A jolt of pure, white-hot sensation shot from her nipple to the very core of her. Her back arched, pressing her breast more fully into his hand for a terrifying, wonderful instant before she jerked away.
“What was that?” she breathed, her heart hammering.
“The current,” Jimmy said, his eyes knowing. “You’ve been fighting it. It’s tired of fighting. It wants to show you what’s possible.” He picked up a piece of fruit, popped it in his mouth. “Your body knows. Listen to it.”
Suki looked down at herself. Her breasts were visibly larger, swelling against the confines of her tunic, the nipples hard and outlined against the fabric. The hourglass of her waist seemed to nip in tighter, while her hips flared out, pressing against the seams of her shorts. The transformation wasn’t the slow, subtle work of days. It was happening now, in real time, accelerated by his proximity, by his touch, by her surrender at the table. Panic and a dizzying, addictive excitement warred inside her.
“It’s… it’s not real,” she stammered, but the words were hollow.
“Feels real to me,” Jimmy said. His hand returned, this time settling on her thigh, his thumb stroking the powerful muscle there. The heat of his palm seeped through the fabric. Suki’s breath hitched. The playful, teasing woman was gone, submerged under a tidal wave of raw, physical need. Her wit, her competitiveness—it was all just foreplay for this moment of desperate wanting.
“You’re so much more beautiful when you stop talking,” Jimmy murmured, his mouth close to her ear.
Suki’s resolve shattered. A low whine built in her throat. Her hand came up and clutched his wrist, not to remove it, but to hold it there, to keep that contact. She was panting, her eyes glazed.
The hall was utterly silent except for the crackle of the eternal fire and the ragged sound of Suki’s breathing. Every woman watched, captivated, as the holdout was conquered not by force, but by her own amplified, undeniable biology.
Jimmy took his hand from her thigh and placed it on top of her head, a firm, possessive weight. “On the floor. With the others.”
Suki slid off the bench. It wasn’t graceful. It was a collapse. She knelt on the hard-packed earth beside Mira, her head bowed, her newly swollen breasts feeling heavy and sensitive, aching for his attention. The competitive fire was still there, but its aim had shifted. It wasn’t about beating him anymore. It was about being chosen. About being the one he touched next.
Jimmy looked down at the three of them: Lena, serene and claimed; Mira, tender and devoted; Suki, passionate and broken to need. He looked out at the ring of watching women, their faces alight with fervor. He felt the power in the room, the energy they were all feeding into him. It made him feel ten feet tall. Invincible.
He stood up. The movement was like a mountain rising. He stretched, and the play of muscle under his skin drew a collective murmur.
“The food was great,” he announced, his voice filling the space effortlessly. “Thanks.”
He looked at Kira. “Where do I sleep?”
Kira’s eyes widened, then gleamed. “The community house is prepared, my lord. The largest hut. With the softest furs.”
“Good.” He glanced down at the three women at his feet. “You three. You’re with me.”
He didn’t wait to see if they followed. He knew they would. He started walking toward the reed doors, the crowd of women parting before him like a human sea.
Lena was the first to move, scrambling to her feet and following closely, a faithful hound. Mira rose with quiet dignity, her soft body moving with a new purpose. Suki hesitated for a second longer, the last ember of her old self struggling. Then she looked at his retreating back, the impossible width of it, and felt the empty, aching need between her legs. She got up and followed, her steps quickening to catch up.
The feast was over. The ritual was complete. The island had its king, and now, it had his court.
