Chapter 2: Cornered Prey
The roar of the crowd was a physical thing, a wall of sound pressing against Damon’s battered ribs as he pushed himself upright. Volkov blinked rapidly, thick fingers swiping angrily at the oil stinging his eyes, a low growl rumbling in his chest. The momentary blindness had saved Damon from annihilation, but the respite was over. The Behemoth’s vision cleared, locking onto Damon with renewed, murderous fury.
Damon saw it. Saw the coiled spring of violence tighten. He couldn’t wait. Couldn’t let Volkov set his feet. With a surge of adrenaline that screamed through his bruised shoulder and aching ribs, Damon launched himself forward. Not a reckless charge, but a desperate, low lunge aimed at Volkov’s midsection, hoping to drive the giant back, to topple him again onto the treacherous mat.
He misjudged the oil. Or Volkov’s terrifyingly fast reflexes. Damon’s leading foot slid fractionally, throwing his timing off by a heartbeat. Volkov didn’t retreat. He met the charge head-on. Massive arms shot out, not to grapple, but to intercept. One thick forearm slammed across Damon’s collarbone, stopping his momentum dead. The other snaked under Damon’s thighs as he was lifted clean off his feet.
The world tilted violently. Damon kicked, twisted, but Volkov’s grip was iron, his balance unnervingly solid despite the slick surface. Instead of slamming him down, Volkov pivoted, carrying Damon’s struggling form towards the corner. Damon saw the padded turnbuckle rushing towards him, not horizontally, but vertically.
"No!" The word tore from Damon’s throat, raw and desperate.
Too late. Volkov hoisted Damon higher, then drove him down with brutal, targeted force. Not onto his back. Not onto his shoulders.
Damon’s pelvis slammed crotch-first onto the unforgiving point of the top turnbuckle pad.
The impact was electric, blinding. A white-hot lance of pure agony exploded from his groin, shooting up his spine and down his legs. Every muscle in his body seized. His scream wasn’t a roar; it was a high-pitched, strangled shriek that ripped through the warehouse, momentarily drowning the crowd. His vision tunneled, dark spots dancing. He hung there, impaled on the agony, legs dangling, arms limp, utterly vulnerable.
Volkov leaned in, his massive, oil-slicked chest pressing against Damon’s trapped back. The heat radiating off him was immense. Damon could feel the Behemoth’s own arousal, thick and rigid beneath the straining fabric of his trunks, grinding deliberately against the swell of Damon’s trapped bulge. The friction, the pressure against the bruised, screaming nerves, sent conflicting waves of nausea and unwanted, involuntary sensation through Damon’s shuddering body. A low moan escaped him, choked and humiliated.
"Shhh, little lion," Volkov breathed, his voice a guttural rasp directly into Damon’s ear. The hot, stale breath washed over Damon’s sweat-slicked neck. "Hurts good, doesn't it? Feel that?" He ground harder, a slow, deliberate rotation of his hips. Damon gasped, his body arching instinctively against the pain and the invasive pressure. "Bet you’re stiffening right up for me, aren't you? Like a scared cub caught in a trap." Volkov chuckled, a dark, rumbling sound vibrating through Damon’s bones. "Gonna make you scream louder. Gonna break you right here, in front of everyone. Make you beg. Then maybe I keep you after... show you what a real predator feels like inside."
The crowd was apoplectic. Some roared approval, intoxicated by the raw display of dominance and humiliation. Others screamed protests, horrified by the brutality. Camera flashes popped like gunfire, capturing Damon’s agony, Volkov’s cruel leer.
Damon’s mind swam in the pain. The veldt felt galaxies away. The dust, the sky, the quiet strength – it all crumbled under the searing humiliation and the relentless pressure grinding against him. He tasted blood where he’d bitten his lip. His ribs shrieked with every shallow, ragged breath. But beneath the agony, beneath the suffocating weight of Volkov’s body and his words, something primal sparked. Not surrender. Not yet.
His fingers, dangling near the top rope, brushed against the coarse, sweat-soaked cord. His eyes, blurred with pain, focused on Volkov’s thick forearm braced against the turnbuckle pad beside his head. The giant was leaning heavily, savoring the moment, confident in his total control.
Damon’s moan deepened, sounding almost like submission. He let his head loll forward, feigning weakness, drawing Volkov’s leer closer. With a surge of will that felt like tearing his own muscles, Damon shifted his trapped weight infinitesimally. His free hand, hidden from the crowd by Volkov’s bulk, shot up not to push, but to grab.
He seized a handful of Volkov’s sweat-matted hair near the temple. Not to pull away. To pull downwards, with every ounce of desperate strength he had left, while simultaneously driving his forehead upwards with brutal force.
Crack!
The sound of bone meeting bone was sickeningly loud. Volkov’s mocking grin vanished instantly, replaced by a stunned, pained grunt. His grip loosened fractionally as his head snapped back from the vicious headbutt.
It was the opening Damon needed. He shoved backwards with his legs against the turnbuckle pad, using it for leverage, twisting violently out of Volkov’s slackened hold. He hit the mat hard on his side, rolling instantly away from the corner, gasping, the pain in his groin a dull, throbbing echo of the initial explosion. He scrambled backwards on hands and knees, putting precious distance between himself and the momentarily stunned Behemoth.
Volkov staggered back a step, clutching his forehead where a dark red welt was already rising. Oil and sweat mixed with a trickle of blood above his eyebrow. His eyes, when they found Damon crawling away, burned with pure, unadulterated rage. The playful predator was gone. Only the killer remained.
"You," Volkov spat, wiping blood from his brow, his voice thick with fury. "You little shit."
Damon pushed himself painfully to his feet near the opposite ropes. He spat a mouthful of coppery blood onto the gleaming black mat. His body was a symphony of pain – ribs, shoulder, groin, head – but he stood. His chest heaved. Sweat and oil ran in rivulets down his trembling muscles. He met Volkov’s murderous gaze across the oil-slicked expanse. The fire in his own eyes hadn't been extinguished; it burned hotter, fueled by pain and defiance.
He didn't speak. He just raised his fists, knuckles raw and bleeding, and waited. The ring felt impossibly small. The air crackled with the promise of annihilation. Volkov took a step forward, then another, a dark storm gathering momentum. Damon braced, every nerve ending screaming, knowing the next collision wouldn't be about dominance games. It would be about survival. Pure, desperate, visceral survival. The crowd held its breath. The only sound was the heavy, ragged breathing of two warriors circling in the slick, unforgiving pit.
