Chapter 2: A Taste Test
The living room seemed to hold its breath. The others' footsteps faded toward the kitchen, Amber's chatter about taco night bouncing off the walls before dissolving into the hum of the house's old plumbing. Alex stood by the couch, still half-unpacked in his mind, the weight of the afternoon settling into his bones. He had signed a lease. He had agreed to a rule. He had kissed two women and been touched by a third. And now, somehow, he was expected to just... go about his evening.
He turned toward the hallway, intending to follow the sound of clattering pots, when he noticed Blossom hadn't moved.
She stood a few feet away, barefoot on the warm hardwood, the sheer linen sarong catching the low golden light in ways that made her outline almost too visible. Her auburn hair fell past her waist in lazy waves, and she held her quartz necklace between two fingers, absently rolling the raw stone. Her pale green eyes were fixed on him with an intensity that didn't match her easy posture.
"You're not going to dinner?" he asked.
"I will," she said. "In a minute. I wanted a moment with you first."
The way she said it wasn't ominous. It was almost clinical, like a scientist explaining she needed one more sample before publishing her findings. She stepped closer, bare feet silent on the wood, and stopped just inside his personal space. He could smell her now: jasmine and clean skin, something earthy underneath.
"I've been thinking about the arrangement," she said, tilting her head. "Lola explained the rule. You agreed. That's good. Consent matters in a household like this, more than people think. But I'm a believer in direct experience."
Alex swallowed. "What do you mean?"
Her lips curved into a slow, serene smile. "I mean, I don't like to commit to something without sampling it first. You understand. Like tasting a fruit at the market before you buy a bag."
He opened his mouth to respond, but the words didn't come. He watched, frozen, as she lowered herself to her knees on the polished floor with a fluid grace that seemed to cost her nothing. The sarong pooled around her on the wood, the sheer fabric catching the light in a cascade of muted earth tones. She looked up at him, and there was nothing coy in her expression. Just calm, patient curiosity.
"Don't be nervous," she said, reaching for the button of his jeans. "This is just information. That's all it is. Me, learning something about you, and you, learning something about me."
Her fingers worked the button free with practiced ease. The zipper went down with a soft metallic rasp, and she hooked her thumbs into the waistband of his charcoal denim, easing the fabric down over his hips. His boxer briefs followed, pulled down just enough. The air hit his skin, cool against the warmth of the room.
Blossom let out a low, thoughtful hum as his cock sprang free, already half-hard in the golden light. She didn't lunge or grab. She studied it the way she'd studied him: with patient, unhurried attention. Her hand came up, fingers wrapping around the base with a light, almost academic grip. She turned it gently, as if examining the weight and texture of it.
"Nice," she said, her voice soft. "Really nice, actually. Proportionate. Good color. Clean." She looked up at him. "You take care of yourself. That's something."
He couldn't find his voice. His breath had gone shallow, his pulse hammering somewhere behind his ribs.
Her tongue emerged, slow and pink, and she ran the flat of it along the underside of his shaft, from the base to just beneath the head. The sensation was electric, a hot wet line that made his hips twitch involuntarily. She made a small, satisfied sound.
"Salty," she murmured, almost to herself. "A little mineral. Not unpleasant at all." She did it again, this time circling the head with her tongue, tracing the ridge with deliberate slowness. Alex's hands clenched at his sides. The golden light painted her auburn hair in bronze, her face tilted up toward him, her eyes half-lidded with focus.
She opened her mouth and took him in.
It wasn't aggressive. There was no gagging, no frantic bobbing, no sloppy theatrics. Just a slow, warm, deliberate seal of her lips around his head, her tongue flattening against him as she slid down his length inch by inch. She moved with unhurried patience, her jaw relaxing, her throat opening, taking him deeper until his cock pressed against the soft back of her mouth. Then she held there for a moment, breathing through her nose, her hands resting lightly on his thighs.
Alex let out a sound he didn't recognize, something between a gasp and a groan. His fingers twitched, and he wanted to bury them in that waist-length auburn hair, but he held back, uncertain of the boundaries even in a house without them.
Blossom pulled back slowly, her lips dragging along his shaft until just the head rested in her mouth. She swirled her tongue around it once, twice, then pulled off entirely with a soft, wet pop. A thin strand of saliva connected her bottom lip to the tip of his cock for a moment before it broke. She licked her lips and nodded thoughtfully.
"Tastes just fine," she said, rising to her feet with that same fluid elegance, as if she hadn't just had his cock in her throat. She smoothed her sarong down, adjusting the sheer fabric over her hips. "I think we're going to get along extraordinarily well, Alex."
He was still standing there with his jeans around his hips, his cock wet and half-erect, his brain struggling to process what had just happened. She reached out and squeezed his shoulder, warm and friendly, entirely unbothered.
"You should get dressed for dinner," she said, a smile playing at her lips. "Amber made guacamole. It's her signature. It'll be gone if you don't hurry."
She turned and padded toward the kitchen, her bare feet whispering over the hardwood, the sarong swaying with each step. At the doorway, she paused and looked back over her shoulder, those pale green eyes holding his.
"Oh, and Alex? The door's still unlocked. In case you want to return the favor sometime." She smiled, serene and knowing. "I'm particularly fond of being eaten out in the morning light. But I'm flexible."
And then she was gone, leaving him alone in the sun-drenched living room, heart hammering, cock still wet, the scent of jasmine thick in the air.
He stood there for a long moment, processing. Then he let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, tucked himself back into his underwear, and pulled his jeans up. The button went through the loop with a decisive snap.
Dinner. Right.
He walked toward the kitchen, still slightly dazed, and paused at the doorway. The scene inside was something out of a domestic fantasy: Amber in a cropped t-shirt and tiny shorts, bouncing on her heels as she mashed avocados with exaggerated drama; Lola at the stove, stirring something that smelled like garlic and chili, wearing a loose tank top and yoga pants, her dark hair tied back; Blossom at the counter, arranging a cutting board with lime wedges, the sarong slipping off one shoulder.
They all looked up when he entered. Amber grinned, bright and uncomplicated. "There he is! I thought you got lost. Bloss, you didn't let him get lost on his first day, did you?"
"I did not," Blossom said, slicing a lime with careful precision. "I made sure he felt right at home."
Lola's dark eyes flicked to him, quick and assessing. A knowing smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth. "I bet you did."
Alex pulled out a chair and sat down at the worn wooden table. The bowl of guacamole landed in front of him, Amber's smiling face hovering behind it.
"Try it," she said. "But be warned. It's the best you'll ever have. I don't say that lightly. There's a reason I never bring this recipe to parties. It creates feuds."
He scooped up a chip, dipped it, and took a bite. The avocado was creamy, the lime bright, the cilantro fresh. He chewed, swallowed, and nodded. "Okay. That's actually incredible."
Amber preened. "Told you. I'm a woman of many talents." She winked, and there was nothing subtle about it.
Lola set a pan of sizzling chicken on the table, steam rising in fragrant curls. She sat across from Alex, her gaze steady and unreadable. "Dinner first," she said, her voice carrying a note of authority. "Then we can all get reacquainted properly."
Blossom slid into the chair beside him, closer than she needed to be. Her bare thigh pressed against his jeans beneath the table, warm and grounding. She picked up a tortilla, tore it in half, and loaded it with meat and guacamole.
"I have a good feeling about you," she said, taking a bite. "I think you'll fit in just fine here, Alex. Better than most."
He looked at the three of them. Lola, sharp and commanding, watching him like a chess player deciding on a move. Amber, bright and infectious, practically vibrating with energy. Blossom, serene and open, her hand resting casually on his thigh under the table.
He lifted his glass of water. "To the first day of the rest of my life, I guess."
Amber cheered. Lola smirked. Blossom squeezed his thigh.
And for the first time since he'd pulled into the driveway that morning, Alex felt his shoulders relax. He'd signed a lease. He'd agreed to a rule. And somehow, in this golden-lit kitchen with three beautiful women who wanted him without pretense, he thought he might just be exactly where he was supposed to be.
