My best friend and his wife, Jared and Lindsay, have a unique marriage. Lindsay is required to submit herself to weekly maintenance spankings from Jared every Saturday morning. However, Jared asks me to step in and spank Lindsay one week while he is away on a work function. Jared expects me to thoroughly and painfully administer the spanking as if Jared himself was doing it.

Chapter 1: The Birch and the Bargain

The last dregs of sunlight bled through the towering oaks, painting long, distorted shadows across Jared and Lindsay’s manicured backyard. The air hung thick and sweet, heavy with the perfume of night-blooming jasmine and the damp scent of turned earth. Crickets tuned their instruments in the deepening twilight, a counterpoint to the rapid, anxious thumping of Mark’s own heart. He shifted his weight on the worn wooden bench, the slats groaning softly under him. It felt alien, intrusive, sitting here in Jared’s place.

Lindsay stood a few feet away, bathed in the bruised purple light. Her back was to him, shoulders tense. She wore a simple, sleeveless linen dress that hugged the generous curve of her hips before falling loosely. Her long, dark hair was swept to one side, exposing the vulnerable line of her neck. Mark swallowed, his palms suddenly slick. He wished, not for the first time since Jared’s unexpected business trip call, that he’d invented a prior engagement. Anything.

Lindsay didn’t turn. "Essentially. Over my skirt. Start light." Her voice was carefully neutral, but Mark caught the faint tremor beneath. "Ten or so. Then… we’ll see."

"Right. Okay." Mark wiped his hands on his jeans. He felt absurd, perched on this garden bench under the watchful trees. He wasn't Jared. He wasn't built for this controlled discipline, this intimate ritual that seemed to bind his friends in a way he’d always found fascinating, enviable, and now, deeply unsettling. He remembered glimpses – Jared’s confident hand landing with crisp authority, Lindsay’s breath catching, that complex mix of surrender and fierce connection that always crackled between them afterward. He’d felt like a voyeur then. Now he was center stage, hopelessly miscast.

He took a shaky breath. "Ready?"

Lindsay nodded, bracing her hands against the sturdy armrest of a nearby wrought-iron patio chair. She bent forward slightly, presenting the rounded swell of her backside under the thin linen. The pose was practiced, resigned. Mark raised his hand, hesitated, then brought it down in a clumsy pat against the fabric.

It landed with a soft thwup. More like a friendly tap than anything resembling discipline. Lindsay flinched, a tiny gasp escaping her. Not pain. Surprise, maybe. Impatience.

"Mark," she said, her voice low, strained. "That’s… not it."

"Sorry." Heat flooded his face. He tried again, putting a bit more muscle into it. Thwack. Slightly better. Still pathetic.

Another tap. Another. He fell into an awkward rhythm, his palm connecting with the linen-covered curve with a series of dull, uni
