Chapter 2: Fall into Misfortune (The Hole)

The abandoned warehouse was a labyrinth of shadows, a symphony of whispers echoing through the vacant halls. The air was heavy with the scent of rust and decay, the taste of dust coating the back of Barbara's throat. After her encounter with the eerie green cat, she had returned to the entrance, only to find Maggie gone. A quick search of the area revealed no sign of her, her phone going straight to voicemail. Barbara's heart pounded in her chest, a mixture of concern and frustration gnawing at her.

Something wasn't right here, and she knew it. She pulled out her communicator, her fingers flying over the keys as she sent a message to the Batcave.

**Batgirl:** Maggie's missing. Last seen at the abandoned warehouse by the docks. No response on her comms.

Alfred's voice crackled through the earpiece a moment later, his tone grave. **"Understood, Barbara. I'll alert Batman and have him meet you there. Be cautious."**

She acknowledged the message with a quick nod, her senses on high alert as she began a more thorough search of the warehouse.

The cat had disappeared, leaving her alone in the gloom, the only sounds her own footsteps and the distant echo of the city outside.

The air seemed to grow colder, the shadows darker, as she ventured deeper into the labyrinth of machinery and debris. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched, that unseen eyes were tracking her movements. She called out Maggie's name, her voice echoing through the cavernous space, but there was no response, no sign of her partner.

Her communicator crackled to life, Alfred's voice cutting through the silence. "Batgirl, Batman is en route.

He'll be there in ten minutes. Over," Alfred's voice echoed through the earpiece.

"Copy that, Alfred. Thanks," I replied, my breath visible in the cold air. I felt a flicker of relief knowing backup was on the way.

I rounded a pile of crates, my flashlight slicing through the darkness, and caught a glimpse of movement in the corner of my eye. I spun around, my heart racing, and saw nothing but shadows.

"Maggie?" I called out, my voice barely above a whisper. Silence.

I continued through the warehouse, my footsteps echoing ominously in the empty space.

The shadows seemed to thicken around me, the air growing colder with each step. I could feel the weight of unseen eyes on me, the hairs on the back of my neck standing up as if in warning.

I called out again, "Maggie? Can you hear me?"

No response, just the distant hum of the city and the faint whisper of the ocean outside.

I ducked under a low-hanging beam, my flashlight casting eerie shadows on the walls around me. The warehouse was a maze of twisted metal and rotting wood, the perfect hiding place for someone—or something—not wanting to be found.

I rounded a corner and saw a partially collapsed wall, the bricks and mortar scattered across the floor like a giant had taken a swing at it. The wall had been hastily patched with plywood, nailed in place with rusted nails. A faint, sweet scent hung in the air, like the perfume of a long-forgotten lover.

My gaze lingered on the patched wall, a sudden insight striking me like a punch. This wasn't just some random abandoned warehouse. This place had been used for something. Something hidden behind walls and shadows.

I reached out, my gloved hand pressing against the plywood.

It was warm to the touch, humming with a faint energy that set my nerves on edge. I could feel something pulsating beneath the surface, like a heartbeat, steady and insistent. A chill ran down my spine, and I stepped back, my mind racing.

What was behind that wall? And why did it feel so familiar?

I pulled out my multitool, the metal blade glinting in the dim light of my flashlight. I pressed it against the plywood, feeling for any give. It was solid, but there was something off about it, something that made my instincts scream danger.

I pressed harder, and a small section of the plywood gave way, revealing a faint seam. I took a step back, my heart pounding in my chest.

This wasn't a patch job; it was a cover-up.

I took out my lock-picking tools, my fingers dancing over the picks as I worked the lock on the metal latch. It wasn't much of a challenge—the lock was old and rusted, the tumblers giving way with a soft click.

The plywood swung open, revealing a hidden chamber. The air inside was stale, the scent of rust and something else, something faint and sweet, wafting out.

I aimed my flashlight into the chamber, the beam cutting through the darkness to reveal a sight that made my blood run cold.

The walls were covered in a mosaic of graffiti, each piece depicting a cat in various states of corruption and decay. Some were depicted as rotting corpses, others as twisted monstrosities with too many eyes and too many teeth. A large, bubbling vat of green liquid sat in the center of the chamber, the surface churning like a living thing.

I stepped inside, my boots crunching on the debris-strewn floor.

The air was heavy with the scent of rust and something else, something sweet and cloying that made the back of my throat itch. My flashlight swept over the walls, illuminating the grotesque cat graffiti that seemed to pulse with a life of its own. I shuddered, my skin crawling at the sight.

This was no ordinary graffiti—this was a warning, a threat. And it was directed at me.

I turned my attention to the vat in the center of the chamber. It was massive, easily ten feet in diameter, the green liquid inside bubbling and churning like a cauldron from a witch's brew.

As I moved closer, I noticed that the vat was suspended over a series of intricate pulleys and levers, all connected to a large, antique control panel. I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized that this wasn't just some random vat of chemicals—this was a carefully crafted device, designed for a specific purpose.

I stepped closer, my eyes scanning the control panel. There were a series of dials and switches, each one labeled with arcane symbols and cat-themed glyphs. I reached out, my gloved hand hovering over one of the switches, when a sudden noise made me freeze.

The door slammed behind me, the sound echoing through the chamber like a gunshot. The footsteps of heels on metal clanged in the shadows, the sound bouncing off the walls and ceiling, leaving me no doubt as to whom it belonged. A leather-clad figure stepped into the beam of my flashlight, a cruel smile playing at the corners of her mouth. Next to her, as if summoned, was the green cat from earlier. It sat at her heels, its tail twitching lazily as it watched me with unblinking emerald eyes.

"Always so curious, aren't you, Batgirl?" She purred, her voice a low growl that seemed to resonate in the very air. I recognized her immediately, the scent of her perfume—a sickly sweet concoction that clung to the air like a plague—a dead giveaway.

Catwoman. She sauntered towards the control panel, her eyes never leaving mine as she ran her fingers along the dials and switches, activating them with a cruel precision. The vat of green liquid began to churn and bubble more violently, the sound like a thousand hissing serpents. The cat at her feet cocked its head to the side, its emerald eyes reflecting the eerie glow of the liquid.

"Now, now, Batgirl," Catwoman cooed, her voice like velvet laced with poison. "You didn't think I'd let you wander around my little lab uninvited, did you? After all, what kind of hostess would I be if I didn't greet my guests?"

I took a step back, my heart pounding in my chest like a rabbit's drum against a predator's chest.

My hand instinctively reached for my utility belt, my fingers brushing against the various gadgets and tools that hung there. I could feel the cold metal of my Batarangs, the smooth surface of my grapnel gun, but my eyes were locked onto Catwoman as she toyed with the controls of the diabolical device before her.

"What are you doing, Selina?" I growled, my voice a low warning that echoed through the chamber. The cat at her feet hissed in response, its fur bristling like a porcupine's quills. Catwoman's smile only widened, her eyes gleaming with malice and madness.

"Oh, darling, I'm just showing you my new... acquisition," she purred, her voice dripping with sweet venom. "Isn't it lovely?

Just a little experiment I've been working on," Catwoman said, her fingers dancing over the dials and switches. The control panel hummed to life, the lights flickering as she activated it. The vat of green liquid began to bubble and churn more violently, the surface roiling like a stormy sea.

"What is this place, Selina?" I demanded, my voice echoing through the chamber. I could feel the hum of the machine through the soles of my boots, the air crackling with an almost electric energy. The green cat hissed, its tail lashing out like a whip, as if warning me to keep my distance. I took a step back, my hand hovering over my utility belt, ready to draw whatever weapon I might need.

But Catwoman was too quick. She turned to face me, her grin venomous, her eyes burning with the intensity of a predator. Before I could react, a whip cracked through the air, the tip wrapping around my arm and yanking me off my feet. I hit the floor with a thud, the air knocked out of my lungs.

"Catwoman..." I gasped, pain shooting up my arm as I struggled to get back to my feet. But she wasn't done with me yet. With a single fluid motion, she flipped the control panel, and suddenly the vat of green liquid was pouring out, cascading over me like a waterfall of acid. The liquid burned, my skin screaming in protest as it made contact. I rolled on the ground, trying to escape the deluge, but it was no use.

The liquid clung to me, seeping into my suit, burning my skin. I gritted my teeth against the pain, struggling to get to my feet. But Catwoman just stood there, watching me with a cruel smile on her face.

"Oh, darling," she laughed, her voice ringing out like a bell in the chamber. "You should see your face. It's priceless." She gestured to the vat, which was now empty, the green liquid dripping from the edges like a melting ice cream cone. "That was just a little taste of what I have in store for you, Batgirl."

Her laughter echoed through the chamber, bouncing off the walls and ceiling, amplifying the terror that gripped my heart. I tried to push myself up, my muscles screaming in protest as I fought against the burning sensation that consumed my body. But it was no use.

As the liquid seeped into my pores, I could feel my body convulsing, my muscles contorting in ways they shouldn't. The pain was excruciating, like a thousand hot needles piercing my skin. And then, suddenly, it was different. The pain began to ebb, replaced by a strange, tingling sensation that started in my fingertips and spread rapidly through my limbs, my torso, my neck.

As I watched in horror, Cat ears began to sprout from my head, growing rapidly, the fur shimmering like black velvet in the dim light of my flashlight. My back arched, and a tail broke free of my suit, whipping back and forth, the tip brushing against the cold stone floor. I tried to scream, but the sound that emerged was something else entirely—a guttural, primal cry that echoed through the chamber.

My vision swam, and I could feel my body changing, shifting beneath my skin. It was as if I were being rewired, reprogrammed, my very DNA altered.

"What have you done to me?" I hissed at Catwoman, my voice barely recognizable as my own. She laughed, a sound like breaking glass, her eyes gleaming in the dim light.

"Oh, darling, you're just going through a little... transformation," she purred, her voice dripping with malice. "You'll see. It's quite liberating."

I struggled to my feet, my new body feeling awkward and unwieldy. The chamber spun around me, my vision blurring at the edges. I could feel the strength in my limbs, the power coursing through my veins, but it was different—untamed, wild.

With a growl that ripped from my throat, I lunged at Catwoman, my new claws bared, my tail lashing behind me. She laughed, a sound like tinkling glass, as she sidestepped my attack, her whip cracking through the air. But I was faster now, my reflexes honed to a sharp edge, and I spun, my claws raking across her leather jacket, leaving deep gouges in their wake.

She hissed, a sound of surprise and pain, and I pressed my advantage, my body moving with a fluid grace I hadn't known before. I could feel the change in me, the instincts that were no longer human, the hunger that burned in my belly like a living thing. I wanted to taste her, to feel her blood on my tongue, to claim her as my own.

But in an instant, Catwoman changed tune. She grabbed me by the neck, her fingers like iron, and I could feel a choker being placed around my throat—a collar. I struggled against it, clawing at the rough leather, but it was no use. She laughed, a sound like bells ringing in my ears, as she pulled hard against the leash, the collar biting into my neck. I was forced to follow, my body moving against my will, my instincts screaming for me to fight, to break free.

"You're mine now, Batgirl," she purred, her voice a low, sultry growl that sent shivers down my spine. I could feel her breath on my neck, hot and moist, as she leaned in close, her leather jacket creaking with the movement. "You're mine to command, mine to control.

You'll do as I say, little kitten," Catwoman cooed, her voice a low, sultry purr that set my nerves on edge.

I struggled against the collar, my claws raking against the leather as I tried to break free, but the more I fought, the tighter it seemed to clamp around my neck.

Catwoman whispered a command in my ear, her voice a low, sultry growl that sent shivers down my spine. "Kneel, little kitten," she purred, her fingers digging into my flesh, forcing me to my knees. I resisted, my muscles taut, my body shaking with the effort, but the collar around my neck pulsed with a sudden burst of energy, sending a jolt of pain coursing through me. I cried out, my body convulsing, and I was forced to my knees, my breath coming in ragged gasps.

Catwoman laughed, a sound like breaking glass, her eyes gleaming with malice as she looked down at me. "There's a good girl," she cooed, her voice dripping with cruelty. She ran her fingers through my fur, her nails scraping against my skin, leaving a trail of fire in their wake.

"You're mine now, little kitten," she purred, her voice a low, sultry growl that sent shivers down my spine. She licked her lips, savoring the victory, her eyes gleaming with malice and triumph.

I glared up at her, my body trembling with rage and humiliation. My claws dug into the cold stone floor, seeking purchase, desperate for something to latch onto, something to hold onto. But there was nothing. I was trapped, a caged animal, a plaything for her amusement.

Catwoman leaned down, her breath hot and heavy on my face, her eyes boring into mine. "Don't look at me like that, kitten," she whispered, her voice a low, dangerous purr. "You should be grateful. You're part of something bigger now. Something...

You're mine to command, mine to control." She smirked, her eyes glinting with a sadistic glee. She reached out, her gloved hand running through my newly grown fur, her fingers brushing against my skin. I flinched, the sensation both unfamiliar and unpleasant. But as her fingers continued to move, I could feel a strange sensation building within me, a warmth that started in my belly and spread outwards, like a slow-burning fire.

Catwoman's nails scraped against my skin, the sharp edges catching on my fur, sending a jolt of pain through me. But with it came a strange urge, a primal need that was impossible to ignore. I arched my back, my body responding to her touch in ways I couldn't control. I wanted to push her away, to scream at her to stop, but the words wouldn't come.

My body betrayed me, arching into her touch, my breath coming in shallow gasps. Catwoman watched my reaction, her eyes gleaming with a satisfaction that made my stomach turn.

"See how good it feels, kitten?" she purred, her voice a low, seductive sound that sent a shiver down my spine. I could feel the change in me, a primal hunger that clawed at the edges of my consciousness. I wanted to resist, but my body was no longer my own. It belonged to her now.

She leaned in closer, her breath hot on my face, her lips brushing against my ear. "Give in to it, little one," she whispered, her voice like velvet, dripping with promises I didn't want to keep. "Let go of the human inside you.
