Chapter 11: The Devil's Workshop
The shower’s steam curled out from the bathroom door, carrying with it the scent of Jake’s soap and the quiet, heavy sound of water hitting tile. Alice lay on the bed, the duvet cool against her heated skin, the texts from Serena burning a hole through her mind. The room felt different now—not a sanctuary, but a set. The mirrors weren’t for decoration; they were for observation.
She swung her legs over the side of the bed, the marble floor cold under her bare feet. She pulled on Jake’s discarded shirt, the soft cotton hanging to her mid-thigh, and walked towards the walk-in closet.
The door was ajar. Inside, it wasn’t just clothes. Two portable softbox lights stood like silent guards in the corners, unplugged but waiting. A professional video camera was mounted on a tripod, a small red light blinking near the lens. A leather satchel, sleek and unfamiliar, sat open on a velvet stool. She stepped closer, her heart a dull drum in her ears.
Then she saw her.
Serena Bloom was nestled in a nest of oversized silk cushions in the far corner of the closet, a kingfisher in a gilded cage. She wore a black silk robe, loosely tied. In one hand, she held a half-full glass of amber liquid. In the other, between her parted thighs, was the unmistakable, wand-like shape of a Hitachi magic wand. It wasn’t on. It was just resting there, a promise.
“Clock’s ticking, darling,” Serena said, her voice a low, smoky purr. She took a sip of her drink, her eyes never leaving Alice’s. “You wanna watch… or you wanna play?”
Alice’s mouth went dry. She should have been shocked, outraged. But a part of her, a cold, curious part that had been awakened in that peach-scented viewing room, was merely… assessing. “What is this?”
“This,” Serena said, gesturing loosely with her glass, “is an opportunity. A screen test. No names, no faces if you don’t want them. Just a… gauge of interest. And aptitude.” Her smile was a razor-thin curve. “Jake thinks this world will chew you up and spit you out. I think he underestimates you. The question is, do you?”
From the bathroom doorway, a voice, hard as stone, cut through the perfumed air. “Get out, Serena.”
Jake stood there, a towel low on his hips, water beading on his chest. His face was a mask of controlled fury.
Serena didn’t flinch. She clicked the button on the wand. A low, pervasive hum filled the closet. “She’s a big girl, Jake. Let her speak for herself.” She arched a brow, looking at Alice. “He’s afraid you’ll like it. He’s afraid you’ll see it for what it is—just bodies, just friction, just a product. And that once you see the mechanics, you’ll see him differently.”
“Don’t fucking psychoanalyze this,” Jake snapped, stepping into the closet. The space felt immediately crowded, charged.
“It’s just a camera, Jake,” Serena said, her voice reasonable, even as she subtly pressed the humming wand against the silk over her clit. A faint, pleasure-induced sigh escaped her. “It’s just a tool. Like this.” She let her head fall back against the pillows, her eyes closing for a beat. “You of all people know it doesn’t mean anything unless you let it.”
Alice watched, frozen. She watched the fabric of Serena’s robe tremble from the vibration beneath it. She watched the calm, almost bored expression on Serena’s face contradict the intimate act. It was detached. Clinical. Powerful.
Jake turned to Alice, his green eyes desperate. “Alice, don’t. This isn’t you. This is her playing a game.”
“Who says it’s a game?” Alice heard herself say. The words felt foreign. “You do it. You’ve done it a thousand times.”
“That’s different.”
“Why?” she asked, and the question hung in the air, sharp and genuine. “Because it’s you? Because it’s your job? What makes my curiosity cheap and your career legitimate?”
He had no answer. The hypocrisy, vast and unacknowledged, stretched between them.
Serena opened her eyes, a feline glint in them. “The light’s good in here. Soft. Forgiving.” She moved the wand in a slow, small circle. “It doesn’t have to be with him. It could just be you. Exploring. For an audience of one. Me.” Her gaze slid to Jake. “Or him, if he decides to stay.”
The hum of the wand was the loudest sound in the room. Alice looked at the camera, its single red eye staring back. She thought of the mirrored ceiling, of watching herself come apart. This was just another mirror. A more honest one.
Slowly, her fingers moved to the single button of Jake’s shirt. She undid it. The shirt fell open, then slipped from her shoulders, puddling at her feet. The chill air of the closet pebbled her skin.
Jake’s jaw tightened. “Alice.”
She ignored him, her eyes on Serena. “How does it work?”
Serena’s smile widened, genuine this time. She reached into the satchel and pulled out a simple, black wireless remote. “You hold this. You control the camera. Point, shoot, stop. It feeds to a closed server. For my eyes only. Unless you decide otherwise.” She placed the remote on a cushion near Alice’s feet. “No pressure. Just… movement. Sensation. See what it feels like to be the author.”
Alice bent, the movement making her feel exposed and hyper-alive, and picked up the remote. It was cool, solid in her hand. She turned it towards the camera on the tripod and pressed a button marked with a red circle.
A soft, electronic beep. The red light on the camera glowed steady.
She was live.
Her heart hammered against her ribs. She looked into the lens and saw only her own reflection in the glass. She saw a thirty-five-year-old woman, pale and naked in a closet, standing at a threshold. She saw the fear. And beneath it, a terrifying flicker of excitement.
Her hand went to her own breast, her touch tentative at first, then firmer. She pinched her nipple, felt the sharp twist of pleasure-pain. A low, involuntary sound left her throat. Her other hand drifted down, over her stomach, through the coarse hair below, finding the wet heat already gathering there. She was so exposed, so visible, and yet the camera lens felt like a confessional.
From her nest, Serena watched, the wand still humming against her. “Talk,” Serena murmured, her own breath becoming slightly uneven. “Describe it. It’s just for me. Tell me what you’re feeling.”
Alice’s voice, when it came, was a husky thread. “I’m… I’m touching myself. And you’re watching.” She slipped a finger inside herself, then two, her hips giving a small jerk. “It feels… dirty. And good. I’m wet. I’m so wet thinking about you watching me.”
“Are you thinking about him?” Serena asked, her eyes cutting to Jake, who stood rigid by the door, his knuckles white on the towel.
“Yes,” Alice gasped, working her fingers deeper, curling them. “And no. Right now… right now it’s about you watching. It’s about the camera.” She was surprising herself. The words, the actions, were coming from some deep, unlocked place. She found a rhythm, her fingers pumping, her thumb circling her clit. “It feels powerful.”
Jake made a strangled sound. He wasn’t aroused. He was in agony.
Alice turned her head, her movements becoming less hesitant, more purposeful. She looked at him, her gaze holding his. “You do this with strangers,” she said, her voice gaining strength, laced with a challenge. “Why is it different with me?”
He had no answer. He just watched, a spectator in his own life.
Serena shifted, her robe falling completely open. She was bare beneath, her body lean and toned. She moved the wand directly onto her skin, the hum changing pitch against her flesh. Her breath hitched. “He doesn’t like to share,” she said, her voice tight with her own building pleasure. “But everyone shares in this business, Jake. You know that.”
Alice, emboldened by Serena’s display, by the unblinking eye of the camera, walked toward Jake. She stopped inches from him, her scent, her heat, her defiance filling the space between them. She took his hand, sticky from her own moisture, and placed it between her legs, pushing his fingers into her soaked flesh.
“Feel that,” she demanded, her voice raw. “That’s because of this. Because of her watching. Because of me watching myself.” She guided his hand, making him touch her, use her. “Now you’re part of it.”
With a rough curse, Jake snapped. The towel dropped. His cock, thick and already hard, jutted out. He pushed her back, not towards the bed, but towards the tripod, towards the center of the closet floor. He didn’t look at Serena. His world had narrowed to Alice and the furious, betrayed desire she had ignited.
He bent her over, her back to the camera, her face turned towards Serena. He positioned himself behind her, his hands gripping her hips hard enough to bruise. He didn’t ask, didn’t tease. He just pushed, driving his entire length into her with one brutal, deep thrust.
Alice screamed, a sound of shock and overwhelming fullness. The stretch was breathtaking, painful, perfect. Her fingers scrabbled against the smooth marble floor.
“You wanted a show?” Jake growled, pulling almost all the way out before slamming back into her. “You got one.” His rhythm was punishing, each impact jolting her forward. The camera saw it all: the clench of her ass, the way her body yielded to each powerful drive, the sweat slicking her spine.
Serena watched, her own movements with the wand becoming faster, more frantic. “Yes,” she hissed, “just like that. Fuck her like you mean it. Like she’s just another hole.”
Alice cried out with each thrust, the pleasure a searing wire fused with the pain of his anger and her own reckless choices. She was a thing being used, and she was the director of her own degradation. The duality was intoxicating. She reached a hand back, clutching at Jake’s thigh, holding him to her. “Don’t stop,” she begged, her voice broken. “God, don’t stop.”
He fucked her harder, his balls slapping against her with wet, obscene smacks. The room filled with the sounds of them: his grunts, her sharp, sobbing cries, the relentless, wet noise of penetration.
Serena came first, her back arching sharply off the cushions, a guttural, choked moan tearing from her throat as the wand fell from her trembling fingers.
The sight of it, the sound of it, tipped Alice over the edge. Her orgasm ripped through her, violent and convulsive, her internal muscles clamping around Jake’s shaft in rhythmic, milking pulses. She collapsed onto her forearms, her vision swimming.
Feeling her constrict around him, Jake gave two more ragged, deep thrusts and swore as he came, his release hot and frantic inside her. He stayed there, buried to the hilt, his forehead dropped between her shoulder blades, his breathing ragged.
Silence descended, broken only by their heaving breaths.
Alice, still bent over, slowly turned her head. She looked past Jake’s slumped form, past her own naked, used body, to the camera. Its red light still glowed steadily.
She stretched out a trembling arm, her fingers brushing the cold metal of the tripod leg. She found the remote, still clutched in her other hand, and her thumb found the button.
She pressed it.
The red light on the camera went out.
The recording was over. The choice, now, was hers.
