Chapter 1: The Kitchen Counter Confession
The kitchen was too clean, all sharp edges and cold surfaces. Mehdi let his silk robe hang open, the peach-colored fabric whispering against his thighs as he moved. The marble island felt like ice under his palms when he leaned against it. He’d just painted his nails a deep, violent red, and they looked stark against the pale stone.
Footsteps, heavy and deliberate, approached from the hallway. He didn’t turn. He just arched his back a little, letting the robe slide off his shoulders.
“Fuck, look at you.” Ashraf’s voice was a low rumble now, a sound that still sent a fresh thrill through Mehdi’s stomach. A rough, calloused hand closed over his hip, warm and possessive.
“Cold,” Mehdi murmured, pushing his ass back into the space he knew she’d be occupying.
“I’ll warm you up.” Ashraf’s other hand slid around his front, cupping one breast, her thumb brushing over the nipple. Mehdi gasped; the sensitivity there was still a shocking, delicious surprise. Every touch was a rediscovery. Ashraf leaned in, her breath hot on his neck. “You love these, don’t you? Love having them played with.”
Mehdi could only nod, his long hair falling forward. Ashraf gathered it in one fist and pulled, just enough to tilt his head back. “Use your words.”
“Yes,” Mehdi breathed. “Yes, I love it.”
Her hand left his breast and trailed down, over the flat plane of his stomach, through the coarse hair he’d meticulously removed just that morning, leaving nothing but smooth skin. She didn’t hurry. Her fingers dipped lower, finding him wet and already open. He shuddered, a full-body convulsion that made his knees buckle.
“Remember,” Ashraf whispered, her voice thick with a cruel sort of affection, “remember when you used to fuck me with that tiny little thing?” She pushed two fingers inside him, curling them. “Could barely feel it.”
“Ashraf—”
“Shut up. I’m talking.” She withdrew her fingers, and he whimpered at the loss. Then her hand came down hard on his ass cheek—a sharp, stinging slap that echoed in the sterile room. A bloom of heat spread under his skin. “Now I’ve got a real cock. And you…” She ran her fingertip through his slickness again, bringing it to his lips. He tasted himself, salt and musk. “You’ve got this sweet, dripping hole made for me. Isn’t that right?”
“It’s yours,” Mehdi panted, sucking her finger clean. “It’s all yours.”
He heard the tear of foil, the slick sound of her stroking herself. He braced himself, every muscle taut with anticipation. The head of her cock nudged against him, a broad, insistent pressure. She didn’t ask. She just pushed.
The stretch was immense, a burning fullness that stole his breath. He cried out, the sound swallowed by the granite. She buried herself to the hilt in one brutal, perfect thrust.
“Oh God,” he sobbed, his nails scraping against the stone.
“God’s not here,” Ashraf grunted, already pulling back and slamming home again. Her hips set a punishing rhythm, her body a solid, sweating wall against his back. Each drive pushed him higher on his toes, forced muffled shouts from his throat. The jar on the counter rattled with their movement.
She fucked him like she was proving a point, her grip on his hip sure to leave bruises. He loved it. He wanted the marks, the evidence. Her other hand fisted in his hair again, yanking his head back so his spine bowed.
“You take it so good,” she growled, her pace becoming erratic, animal. “My pretty wife. My gorgeous, fucked-out wife.”
The words unspooled him. The crude praise, the sheer physical domination, the deep, internal friction—it coalesced into a tight coil in his belly. He felt his own release building, a bright, sharp tension unrelated to being stroked, coming purely from this, from being utterly claimed.
“I’m gonna come,” he warned, voice shattered.
“Do it.” She bit his shoulder. “Come on my cock. Let go.”
It crashed over him, a silent, convulsing wave that clenched around her, milking her deep inside him. A few ragged thrusts later, she followed with a guttural roar, her body shuddering against his as she emptied herself.
For a long moment, the only sounds were their ragged breaths and the distant hum of the refrigerator. Ashraf stayed buried within him, her weight a comforting anchor. Slowly, she softened and slipped out. She turned him around, his back against the cold counter. Her eyes, dark and satisfied, scanned his flushed face, his sweaty hair, his smeared lipstick.
She kissed him, deep and slow, tasting of whiskey and salt. “Okay?” she murmured against his mouth.
Mehdi smiled, a slow, dazed thing. He felt wrecked and glorious. “Better than okay.” He looked down at their bodies, at the evidence of their joining shining on his inner thighs. A laugh bubbled up, pure and relieved. “It finally fits.”
Ashraf’s smile was all teeth. “It was always supposed to.” She grabbed a dish towel, ran it under warm water, and began to clean him with a tenderness that contrasted violently with how she’d just taken him. This was the other side of the coin, the protection she’d always promised.
As she dabbed at his skin, Mehdi looked past her, out the dark kitchen window to their lit pool beyond. His reflection in the glass was faint—a slim figure with long hair, smudged makeup, and a look of profound contentment. The man who used to host business dinners in this kitchen, who used to knot his tie nervously in the hallway mirror, that man was a ghost. A memory. This person, sore and sated and seen, was the only real thing left.
He wrapped his arms around Ashraf’s neck, pulling her close, inhaling her scent—sweat and sage and home. “Don’t ever stop,” he whispered.
Ashraf’s arms tightened around his waist. “Not a chance in hell.”
Ashraf kissed the top of his head. “You’re trembling.”
“Adrenaline,” Mehdi said, but it was more than that. It was the vulnerability that always followed, the terrifying wonder of being so completely known. He let her lead him to one of the kitchen stools, climbing onto it while she fetched two glasses of water.
They drank in silence for a minute, the only sound the clink of ice. Mehdi watched her. The powerful line of her back as she leaned against the counter, the dark hair on her forearms, the way her sweatpants hung low on her hips. She was magnificent. A masterpiece she’d carved herself into.
“The Rahman dinner is next Saturday,” Ashraf said, apropos of nothing.
The name was a bucket of cold water. Mehdi’s pleasant haze evaporated. “Fuck.”
“Yeah.”
Salim and Farah Rahman. Old friends from the business circuit, from the charity galas, from the life where Mehdi wore tailored suits and Ashraf wore exquisite sarees. They hadn’t seen them since… since before.
“We can’t cancel,” Ashraf continued, her voice pragmatic. “Salim’s been a connector for three major deals this quarter. It’s just dinner.”
“Just dinner,” Mehdi repeated, flatly. He looked down at his breasts, barely concealed by the sheer robe. At his painted nails. “What do we wear, Ashraf? What do we say?”
“We say we’re happy.” She came over, standing between his knees. She put her hands on his thighs. “We wear what we want. Fuck them.”
“It’s not that simple.”
“It is.” Her thumb stroked his inner thigh. “We tell them we transitioned. We tell them we’re remarried. We offer them a drink. If they have a problem, I’ll throw them out of my goddamn house.”
My house. The confidence was a tonic. Mehdi leaned forward, resting his forehead against her sternum. He could hear her heart, steady and strong. “They’ll talk. The whole community will know by Sunday.”
“Let them.” Ashraf’s voice dropped. “You’re not ashamed of me, are you?”
He snapped his head up. “Never. Not for one second.”
“Then it’s settled.” She kissed him, slow and deep, a promise and a seal. “Now come on. I’m starving. And you’re making me dinner.”
The domesticity of it was a relief. Mehdi tied his robe closed, padding barefoot to the Sub-Zero fridge. He pulled out vegetables, herbs, chicken. Ashraf poured herself two fingers of whiskey and sat at the island, watching him chop with a focused intensity that was both familiar and new.
“You used to watch me like that when I cooked,” Mehdi said, not looking up from the onion.
“I like watching your hands. They’re graceful.” She took a sip. “Besides, last time I tried to help, you threatened to stab me with the boning knife.”
“You were julienning the ginger like you were splitting logs.”
Her laugh was a rich, warm sound in the bright kitchen. For a while, there was just the sizzle of oil in the pan, the scent of cumin and garlic blooming in the air, the comfortable quiet of two people who no longer needed to fill every silence.
Later, after they’d eaten and the dishes were loaded, the tension began to coil again. It was a physical current between them, this new hunger that was both emotional and profoundly carnal. Mehdi felt it humming under his skin as he wiped the counter. He caught Ashraf’s eye. Her gaze was heavy-lidded, predatory.
“Come here,” she said, her voice rough.
He didn’t need to be told twice. He walked to her, and she pulled him onto her lap, his legs straddling her thighs on the wide sofa in the adjacent living room. The silk of his robe whispered open. She kissed his throat, his collarbones, took one taut nipple into her mouth. He moaned, his head falling back.
“I’m never going to get used to that,” he gasped.
“Good.” Her hands slid down to his ass, squeezing, pulling him tighter against the hard ridge in her sweatpants. “You feel that? That’s all for you. It’s always for you.”
He ground against her, a slow, filthy roll of his hips. The friction through the layers of fabric was maddening. He wanted to feel her skin. “Please.”
“Please what?”
“Fuck me. Again. I need it.”
She stood up, lifting him with her as if he weighed nothing. A thrill shot through him—her strength was a never-ending turn-on. She carried him to the wide, deep windowsill that overlooked the city lights, setting him down on the cool ledge. The glass was at his back, the entire glittering grid of the city spread out below them, oblivious.
Ashraf yanked her sweatpants and boxers down in one rough motion. Her cock sprang free, thick and already leaking. She spat into her palm, slicking herself, her eyes never leaving his.
“Open,” she commanded.
Mehdi spread his legs, hooking his heels on the edge of the sill. He was completely exposed, utterly vulnerable. The public glass, the private act. It was dizzying.
She didn’t tease. She guided herself to his entrance and pushed in, a steady, relentless invasion that made Mehdi’s eyes water. He cried out, his fingers scrabbling for purchase on her shoulders.
“Look at you,” Ashraf snarled, her hands vise-tight on his hips. “My wife. On display. Taking every fucking inch.” She began to move, deep, driving strokes that shoved him back against the window with each thrust. “Anyone could see. Those lights down there… someone might be looking up right now… seeing how well you take your husband’s cock.”
The degradation was electric. The idea was both terrifying and explosively arousing. He was on display. A secret offered up to the anonymous night. He came undone, his orgasm ripping through him with a silent, breathless intensity, his channel clenching around her in frantic pulses.
Ashraf’s rhythm fractured. With a choked-off groan, she buried herself to the root and came, her heat flooding him. She slumped forward, her forehead against the cool glass beside his head, her breath fogging it.
They stayed like that, joined, for a long time. The city twinkled, indifferent.
Finally, she softened and slipped out. Mehdi felt spent, raw, perfect. Ashraf gently helped him down, his legs shaky. She pulled his robe closed, her hands tender now.
“Bed,” she whispered. “Sleep.”
As they walked down the hall, Mehdi leaned into her side. The Rahman dinner loomed in his mind, a dark shape on the horizon. But here, in the warm cocoon of their home, with the smell of their sex on his skin and Ashraf’s arm solid around him, he could almost believe it would be okay.
Almost.
But a sliver of cold doubt remained, wedged deep beneath his ribs. This happiness felt stolen, and in his experience, stolen things were always taken back.
