Chapter 5: Clara consumes Isabella

The silence after Isabella’s disappearance was absolute, broken only by the wet, shifting sounds coming from inside Clara. She stared down at herself, her mind a white blank of pure panic. Her skin, stretched taut and gleaming under the chamber’s low light, felt like overworked dough.

Then the first real cramp hit.

It wasn't like the dull ache of being too full. This was a deep, structural groan, a seismic shift from within. She let out a sharp gasp, her hands flying to the colossal curve of her belly. The flesh was hot, almost feverish under her palms.

Another surge, violent and insistent. The sheer mass of her shifted on the velvet rug, a slow, unstoppable glacier of flesh and bone. She felt her hips widen with a sickening pop of cartilage, her ribs flaring outwards to make room. The opulent room, which had seemed so vast moments before, began to feel terribly small.

King Oberon, who had been watching with rapt, amused fascination, slowly rose from his throne. The smile was still on his face, but it had frozen into something brittle. "Well," he said, his voice unnaturally calm. "That's a new one."

Clara couldn't answer. She could only breathe in short, ragged pants as another wave of expansion rolled through her. Her back pressed against the heavy wooden leg of the buffet table, and she heard the groan of stressed wood.

"Look at you," the king murmured, stepping closer, his boots silent on the thick rug. He circled her, a predator inspecting a phenomenon he no longer controlled. He reached out a single, jeweled finger and pressed it into the side of her thigh. The flesh yielded, then pushed back with immense, unyielding pressure. "You've consumed the competition. Literally." He let out a short, disbelieving laugh. "My clever, greedy baker. You've taken the game to its logical conclusion."

His words barely registered. Clara was trapped in the feedback loop of her own body. She could feel the individual plates of the stone floor beneath her, each tiny groove and imperfection. The weight was becoming astronomical. The velvet of the rug beneath her was starting to tear under the strain.

Another cramp, sharper this time, and she felt her body lurch sideways. Her shoulder slammed into the buffet table. There was a tremendous crash of splintering wood and shattering porcelain as the table legs buckled. Roasted peacocks, glazed fruits, and silver platters cascaded around her, landing on and around her immense form like pathetic offerings. A river of red wine soaked into the rug, the smell sharp and acidic.

The king jumped back, his composure finally cracking. "Careful!" he snapped, a flicker of genuine alarm in his eyes.

Clara groaned, trying to apologize, but all that came out was a low, guttural sound from the depths of her being. She was a prisoner in a flesh cell that was still being constructed, the walls thickening by the second. She could feel the pressure building in her head, a dull thunder in her ears. The grand, ornate mirror on the far wall reflected a nightmare: a vast, pale mound of a woman, her features stretched and blurred, rapidly filling the space. She saw the fear in her own distorted eyes.

Then the stone beneath the rug cracked.

It was a sound like a lightning strike, sharp and final. A web of fractures raced out from under her, the floor groaning in protest. The entire chamber seemed to shudder. Plaster dust sifted down from the ceiling in a fine mist.

King Oberon stared at the broken floor, then at Clara, his face a mask of dawning, horrified realization. This wasn't just a spectacle anymore. This was a structural problem. His prize contestant was becoming a demolition crew of one.

"Guards!" he roared, his voice losing its cultivated cool, sharp with panic. "Get in here! Now!"

But Clara knew it was too late. She could feel it. The boundaries of her body were pressing against the boundaries of the room. The walls were next. She closed her eyes, a strange, terrifying acceptance washing over her. There was no stopping it. The feast was over. The consequences were here. And they were expanding.
