Chapter 2: The Midnight Return
The laughter in Maddie’s suite tasted different tonight. It didn’t skirt around Clara; it included her, pulled her into its warm, boozy center. She sat cross-legged on the velvet ottoman, a fresh glass of cabernet sauvignon in her hand, and felt the new space she occupied. She was no longer the audience. She was part of the performance.
“Okay, spill,” Jenna said, pointing a stem of grapes at her. “Don’t you dare hide behind ‘it was a good massage.’ We saw you walk in here. You’re practically vibrating.”
Clara felt the heat bloom across her chest. She took a sip, buying time. The wine was bold, peppery. “It was… intense.”
“Intense,” Simone echoed, rolling the word around. “Intense like a deep tissue, or intense like you forgot your own name?”
Maddie just smiled, refilling glasses, her eyes glittering with proprietorial delight. She had orchestrated this, Clara realized. This was the real unveiling.
“Come on, Clarke,” Maddie coaxed, settling beside her. “Omerta only works if we all know the secret. Details. We need details. What did she do?”
Clara looked at their faces, all leaned in, expectant. She saw no judgment, only a hungry, shared curiosity. The barrier within her, the one labeled Wife, Loyal, Good, gave a final, feeble splinter. She let out a long breath, and it carried the first truth out with it.
“She… used her mouth.”
A collective inhale. Rose’s eyebrows shot up.
“Where?” Jenna breathed.
Clara closed her eyes for a second, and the memory was right there, vivid and slick. “Everywhere.” She opened her eyes, emboldened by their rapt silence. “My feet. My… between my legs. It wasn’t like anything I’ve ever… Mike has never…”
The dam broke.
The words came out in a rush, low and confessional. She told them about the gel, the shocking slide of skin on skin, the way Kia’s body became a single, purposeful instrument against hers. She described the slap, the sting that ignited something primal, and the crude, perfect pressure of Kia’s thumb at her back door. She omitted nothing. The filth of the language Kia used, the way she’d called Clara a ghost, the raw, sobbing sounds she herself had made.
“She fucked me with her fingers,” Clara said, the words stark in the firelit room. “And I fucking loved it. I came so hard I saw white. Then I did it again. I begged for it.”
The room was utterly still. Then Maddie let out a low whistle. “Jesus, Kia. She really brought out the big guns for you.”
“Do you feel different?” Rose asked softly. “Right now?”
Clara considered it. Her body still felt softly shocked, sensitive in a thousand new places. But it was more than that. “I feel… awake. Like I’ve been sleepwalking through my own skin. And now I’m not.”
“And Mike?” Simone asked.
The name was a jolt. Clara looked at her phone, dark on the side table. She’d silenced it after sending a single, lying text back: So relaxed! Miss you too. Chat tomorrow xox.
“I don’t know,” she said, and it was the most terrifying, honest thing she’d said all night.
The conversation spiraled from there, the other women sharing fragments of their own first times with Kia—the shocking intimacy, the blurred lines, the profound and confusing liberation. Clara listened, a part of her settling, another part growing more agitated. The wine buzzed in her veins, mingling with the residual hum from Kia’s touch. She felt too large for her skin.
She excused herself, pleading a need for air, and slipped out onto Maddie’s private balcony. The night was cold and clear, the mountain air sharp as a blade in her lungs. Below, the spa gardens were a labyrinth of shadows and lit paths. A figure moved along one, solitary, purposeful.
Maddie joined her on the balcony and put a warm arm round her shoulder before whispering "What happens here....." then turning Clara's face to look directly into her eyes. "It isn't real life, don't judge Mike too harshly" She paused to make sure he words registered... "this is our annual tune up - the keep us sane and help us remember the women we are beneath the wives / mothers duties we spend our lives doing.. voluntarily remember. " She paused and saw recognition in Clara's eyes "It's your first time and it is genuinely sensational..total explosion of pleasure..selfish honest self help and pleasure, it does not diminish really -- just expectations are different... we now all come here to revisit with the sexual animals we are underneath the facade of mundane daily life. It helps all of us enjoy our "real lives" too. And occasionally we have a tune up at home, when the boys are playing poker or whatever" Clara who had been nodding along in agreement now looked shocked. "Tune up at home?" she looked askance "what do you mean?" Maddie paused , deciding if she should spill the final secrets. "Well, over the years, let's just say we have each learned skills from Kia and others.. we understand womens bodies and how to please them" Clara's eyes were on stalks "Maddie! really?"
“Relax Clara, this is La Bohemia long weekend , welcome to the club”
really?”
Clara’s voice was a thin whisper, stolen by the mountain wind. The cool air on the balcony did nothing to douse the fever blooming inside her. Maddie’s arm was a friendly weight, her words a key turning in a lock Clara hadn’t fully known was there.
“Really,” Maddie confirmed, her smile visible in the gloom. “It’s a skills exchange. A maintenance program. Kia opens the door, and we… well, we help each other remember the combination.” She gave Clara’s shoulder a squeeze. “It’s not betrayal. It’s preservation. My marriage to Greg is stronger because of what I learn here. I go home and I’m not resentful. I’m… replenished.”
“And Greg never…”
“Suspects?” Maddie finished, shaking her head. “He gets a wife who isn’t counting the minutes until he finishes. He gets enthusiasm. He thinks he’s a god. Everyone wins.” She leaned closer, her breath a cloud of wine and mint. “The question is, what do you want? You’ve had a taste. Do you want to go back to your room, call Mike, and try to explain a hunger you don’t yet understand? Or do you want to see what else this place has to offer?”
Clara looked down at the garden path. The solitary figure was gone. Her body, though, remembered everything: the exact pressure of Kia’s thumb, the wet索取 of her mouth. It thrummed with a new, impatient energy. Preservation. The word wrapped around her guilt and smothered it.
“What else?” Clara asked.
Maddie’s laugh was soft, victorious. “Come inside. It’s time for a demonstration.”
The suite felt different when they re-entered. The fire had burned lower. The jazz had stopped. An anticipatory quiet had settled over the other women. Jenna was stretching her neck, a cryptic smile on her lips. Simone patted the space on the deep rug between her and Rose.
“Lie down, Clara,” Simone said, not unkindly.
Clara’s heart hammered against her ribs. “What?”
“You gave us the story,” Rose said, her voice calm as a still pond. “Now let us show you the application. Think of it as… advanced mentorship.”
Maddie guided her to the floor, her hands firm. “Trust us. This is what we do. Receive.”
Clara lay back on the plush wool rug, the fibers soft against her bare shoulders. She felt absurd, exposed, even fully clothed. The four women arranged themselves around her like points of a compass. Jenna took her right hand, lifting it. Maddie cradled her head in her lap. Simone and Rose positioned themselves at her feet.
“Close your eyes,” Maddie whispered, her fingers beginning to thread through Clara’s long brown hair. “Just feel.”
Jenna’s thumb found the center of Clara’s palm and pressed, a deep, slow circle. It wasn’t erotic. It was deeply calming. Simultaneously, Simone’s hands wrapped around her left foot, her thumbs digging into the arch with professional precision. A groan of pure relief escaped Clara. The tension of the day, the seismic shock of Kia, the moral freefall—it all began to melt under this concerted, knowing touch.
But the touch evolved.
Jenna’s massage of her hand became slower, more sensual. Her fingertips traced the veins on Clara’s inner wrist, then journeyed up her forearm, under the sleeve of her silk blouse. Simone’s ministrations on her foot turned deliberate, her focus shifting to the sensitive webbing between her toes. She took Clara’s big toe into her mouth.
Clara’s eyes flew open. The sensation was a direct, wet wire to her groin. Maddie gently covered her eyes with a palm. “Shhh. Just feel it.”
Rose, silent until now, took Clara’s other foot. She didn’t use her mouth. She used a small, cool vial of oil, pouring it, massaging it in with a grip that was both tender and demanding. Her hands slid higher, past Clara’s ankle, kneading the firm muscle of her calf. They pushed the fabric of her wide-leg trousers up, inch by inch.
Clara was dissolving. Four sets of hands, four different intentions, mapping her body with a fluency that spoke of practiced, shared knowledge. Jenna had unbuttoned her blouse cuff, was smoothing her palm up over Clara’s elbow, towards her bicep. The casual, chatty friends from dinner were gone. In their place were meticulous archivists of sensation.
“You’re so responsive,” Rose murmured, her hands now high on Clara’s thigh, a bold, warm weight through the linen. “Every nerve is singing.”
Maddie’s hands left Clara’s face and went to the buttons of her blouse. She opened them, one by one, not frantically, but with a slow, ceremonial purpose. The air touched Clara’s sternum, her stomach. She didn’t stop them. She arched her back slightly, letting the blouse fall open.
“Beautiful,” Simone said, the word muffled around Clara’s toe.
Then the coordination shifted. It was no longer four separate attentions. It was a symphony. As Jenna’s hand cupped Clara’s breast over her lace bra, Simone’s mouth suckled deeply on her toe, and Rose’s hand found the junction of Clara’s thighs, pressing the linen seam hard against her.
Clara cried out, a sharp, broken sound.
Maddie lowered her mouth to Clara’s ear. “This is how we take care of each other. No asking. Just knowing.” Her hand joined Rose’s, both palms now pressing in rhythm against Clara’s aching cunt. The pressure was maddening, glorious through the fabric.
“Please,” Clara gasped, unsure what she was begging for.
Jenna solved it. She unhooked the front clasp of Clara’s bra, freeing her breasts. Her mouth closed over a nipple, tongue lashing it to a stiff peak. The suction was electric, ruthless.
Rose’s fingers hooked into the waistband of Clara’s trousers and panties, dragging them down in one rough, efficient motion. The cold air hit her wetness. Then Rose’s touch was bare, calloused skin on bare, slick skin.
“Fuck, she’s drenched,” Rose breathed, almost to herself.
Two fingers slid into Clara without preamble, curling upwards, finding that devastating spot instantly. Clara’s hips jackknifed off the rug. Jenna switched breasts, her bite now deliciously sharp. Simone released her foot, crawling up her body to capture Clara’s mouth in a deep, searching kiss that tasted of wine and salt.
Clara was pinned, pleasured, utterly possessed. Rose’s fingers fucked her with a steady, penetrating rhythm, her thumb pressing circles on Clara’s clit. It was too much. It was everything. The collective focus of these women, their skilled, selfish generosity, annihilated her.
“Come on,” Maddie urged, her voice a hot command in Clara’s ear. “Give it to us. Let us feel you come.”
The orgasm shattered her into a thousand glittering pieces. It ripped through her core, a convulsive, silent scream that clamped violently around Rose’s thrusting fingers. She shook, her back bowing, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes into her hair. They didn’t stop. Rose kept fucking her through it, Jenna kept sucking, until Clara was sobbing from overstimulation, pushing weakly at their hands.
They relented, slowly, peeling away their touches like layers of bandages from a wound. Clara lay ravished on the rug, her clothes in disarray, her skin glowing with sweat and oil. The women rearranged themselves around her, their breathing the only sound. Someone draped a soft cashmere throw over her.
After a long while, Maddie spoke, her voice back to its normal, vivacious tone. “So. That’s a tune-up.”
Clara couldn’t speak. She could only stare at the vaulted ceiling, her body humming with a profound, emptied-out peace. The guilt was a distant shadow. This, she understood now, was the real secret of La Boheme. Not a singular transgression with a therapist, but this coven-like sustenance.
Her phone buzzed on the floor near her discarded blouse. The screen lit up the dim room.
MIKE flashed across the display, followed by the pulsing green icon of an incoming video call.
The real world was not a shadow. It was a ringing, demanding light. Clara looked at the faces of the women around her, their expressions now soft, satiated, knowing.
She looked back at the phone.
She let it ring.
