Chapter 1: First Taste of Forbidden Spectacle
The shortcut through Overton Park was supposed to save her ten minutes. That’s what Jasmine kept telling herself, her sneakers crunching on gravel still warm from the day’s heat, the air thick with the scent of cut grass and distant barbecue. The music from the frat houses on the other side of the trees was a muffled, thumping heartbeat. She adjusted the strap of her backpack, mentally rehearsing her biology presentation for the third time.
Then the headlights cut through the dark.
They belonged to an old, boxy sedan parked at a jagged angle near the rusted swing set. The beams sliced across the cracked asphalt, illuminating not an empty lot, but a scene that made Jasmine freeze mid-step, her breath lodging in her throat.
There were bodies. A tangle of them, moving against the car’s hood and door. A sharp, feminine laugh pierced the hum of insects—a sound of pure, unadulterated want. Jasmine ducked behind the thick trunk of an oak, her heart hammering against her ribs. She told herself to leave, to turn around and take the long way home. Her feet stayed planted.
Peering around the rough bark, she saw her. A woman with short, shockingly pink hair, pinned against the hood by a man with his jeans bunched around his thighs. The woman’s head was thrown back, her throat a pale curve in the silver moonlight. Another man was on his knees before her, his head buried between her splayed legs, his shoulders working. A third woman, her dark curls wild, was kissing the pink-haired one deeply, one hand kneading her own breast through a torn tank top.
Jasmine’s brain stuttered, trying to process the raw mechanics of it. This wasn’t like the vague, soft-focus scenes in movies. This was noise—wet, sucking sounds, ragged groans, the metallic creak of the car chassis. This was smell—salt, sex, cheap beer, and sweat, cutting through the night air. This was sight, utterly explicit.
The pink-haired woman—Serena, as the other woman moaned her name—was pure commanding energy. She gripped the hair of the man between her thighs, guiding his face, her hips pumping against his mouth. “Right there, fuck, just like that,” she snarled, her voice husky and raw. Her eyes, lined in smudged black, were open. They stared directly at the man working on her, blazing with a possessiveness that was almost violent.
Jasmine felt a corresponding jolt deep in her own belly, a sudden, shocking heat that pooled between her legs. She pressed her thighs together. The friction against her jeans was a strange, thrilling shock. She was horrified at herself. She should be disgusted. She should run.
She couldn’t look away.
Serena shoved the man’s head away with a rough gasp. “My turn,” she panted, swinging her legs off the hood. In one fluid motion, she pushed the kneeling man onto his back on the asphalt. She didn’t pause. She straddled him, reached between her own legs to guide him inside her, and sank down in one swift, decisive motion.
“Oh god,” the man grunted, his hands flying to her hips.
“Yeah, god,” Serena mimicked, rolling her hips in a slow, obscene circle. She threw a look over her shoulder at the other woman. “Lena, get over here. I want your mouth.”
The dark-haired woman complied instantly, crawling over to kiss Serena, her hands roaming. The first man, now standing, unzipped his fly and moved behind Serena, pressing against her. Jasmine watched, mesmerized, as Serena took him, too, her body accepting the double penetration without a flinch, her cry this time a sharp, shattered thing that echoed in the empty lot.
Jasmine’s own hand had crept to the front of her jeans, pressing the heel of her palm hard against the ache that was now a throbbing demand. The damp lace of her underwear was suddenly agonizing. Her breath came in short, shallow hitches. She felt dizzy, turned inside out. This wasn’t beautiful or romantic. It was filthy, exposed, and animalistic. It should have repelled her.
It magnetized her. Every crude groan, every slap of skin on skin, every explicit command from Serena’s mouth wired directly into Jasmine’s nervous system, rewriting something fundamental. Her curiosity wasn’t academic anymore; it was a physical clawing.
The scene reached its frenzied peak. The men’s movements grew frantic, their curses guttural. Serena’s commands dissolved into wordless, choking cries. Jasmine watched the final, shuddering culmination, the collapse of bodies into a sweaty, panting heap on the ground.
The spell broke. Reality rushed back in—the chill of the night air on her own feverish skin, the distant bark of a dog, the weight of her backpack. Shame, hot and nauseating, washed over her. She was a voyeur. A pervert.
She stumbled back from the tree, turning to flee, her sneakers scraping too loud on the gravel.
“Hey.”
The voice stopped her cold. It was the same husky voice, now laced with amusement.
Jasmine turned slowly. Serena stood alone by the car, pulling on a pair of tiny, black shorts. The two men and the other woman were disappearing into the shadows on the other side of the playground, laughing softly. Serena zipped her shorts, her eyes—a clear, unnerving green even in the dark—locked on Jasmine.
“Enjoy the show?” Serena asked, a slow smile playing on her lips. She lit a cigarette, the flame illuminating the sharp planes of her face, the snake tattoo coiled around her bicep.
Jasmine’s mouth was desert-dry. “I… I was just cutting through.”
“Sure you were.” Serena took a long drag, exhaling smoke through her nose. She looked Jasmine up and down, the appraisal frank and utterly unashamed. “You’re practically vibrating over there. All wound up.”
“I’m not,” Jasmine whispered, but her traitorous body felt electric, humming.
Serena took a step closer. The smell of sex and smoke and her perfume, something dark like patchouli, enveloped Jasmine. “It’s okay,” Serena said, her voice dropping. “The first time you see it for real, it does something to you. All that pretending falls away. You see what it actually is. What you actually want.”
Jasmine couldn’t formulate a thought. She was paralyzed by that gaze, by the proximity of someone who lived without any of the filters Jasmine had spent eighteen years constructing.
Serena reached out, not touching Jasmine, but tracing a finger in the air an inch from Jasmine’s cheek. “You’re curious. It’s written all over you. That tight little mouth. Those wide eyes.”
“I have to go,” Jasmine managed, but it was weak.
“Do you?” Serena dropped her cigarette, grinding it under her boot. “Or do you want to stop watching and find out what it feels like?”
“Or do you want to stop watching and find out what it feels like?”
The question hung in the air, a gauntlet thrown down on the cracked asphalt between them. Serena’s smile was a knowing slash. Jasmine’s whole world had narrowed to the pulse between her legs and the violent, terrified hammering of her heart. Every instinct screamed to run, to retreat to the safe, dim quiet of her dorm room and her textbooks, where desire was a theoretical chapter, not a woman with pink hair and demanding eyes.
“I have to go,” Jasmine blurted, the words tripping over each other.
She didn’t wait for a reply. She spun around and ran.
Her backpack slammed against her spine with every frantic stride. The gravel skidded under her sneakers. She didn’t look back, terrified she’d see Serena following, or worse, standing there laughing at her. The cool night air burned her lungs, but it did nothing to douse the fire in her gut. The images played on a brutal, repetitive loop behind her eyes: the arch of Serena’s back, the raw sound of skin on skin, the utter surrender to feeling.
She hit the sidewalk bordering campus, her legs pumping. Groups of students passed in blurred clots of laughter. She felt alien, marked, as if the smell of that parking lot was clinging to her. She fumbled with her keycard at the dormitory entrance, shoved through the heavy door, and took the stairs two at a time to the third floor.
Her hand trembled as she unlocked her single room. She slammed the door shut, leaning against it, gulping in the sterile, quiet air. The familiar space—the neatly made bed, the biology textbook open on her desk, the lame inspirational poster—felt like a museum exhibit of her old self. That girl was gone. Someone else was breathing in her skin, her nerves stripped raw, her core clenched around a desperate, empty ache.
She couldn’t think. She could only feel.
With a frantic shove, she dropped her backpack. Her fingers went to the button of her jeans, yanking it open, dragging the zipper down. She pushed the denim and her damp lace underwear down her thighs in one rough motion, leaving them bunched around her knees. She didn’t make it to the bed. She slumped back against the cool wood of the door, her legs giving way.
Her fingers dove between her legs, finding her clit swollen and throbbing, slippery with her own arousal. She gasped at the contact, a sharp, guttural sound in the silent room.
It wasn’t gentle. It wasn’t curious. It was a punishment and a demand.
She rubbed herself hard, circles grinding and relentless, her forehead pressed against the door. The pressure built fast, a terrifying wave. She thought of Serena’s hand fisting in that man’s hair. She pictured the exact moment of penetration, the brutal fullness. A broken whimper escaped her lips. She slipped two fingers inside herself, fucking herself with them, quick and deep, the heel of her hand grinding against her clit.
“Fuck,” she hissed into the empty room, the obscenity foreign and hot on her tongue. Her thoughts dissolved into a static of sensation and fractured imagery: the tattoo on Serena’s arm coiled like a promise, the headlights gleaming on sweat-slicked skin, the sound of a moan ripped from a throat.
Her hips jerked off the door. She added a third finger, stretching, wanting it to burn, to feel like something was being taken. She imagined it was someone else’s hand, someone who knew exactly what they were doing, someone who wouldn’t treat her like she was breakable.
She came with a choked, soundless scream, her body bowing against the door, a violent, rushing climax that felt less like pleasure and more like a system failure. Waves of shock rolled through her, leaving her trembling and hollowed out. She slid down the door until she was a heap on the floor, her jeans still tangled around her knees, the cold laminate pressing against her bare thigh.
She crawled to her bed, too drained to stand. She didn’t wash up. Didn’t brush her teeth. She shoved her jeans the rest of the way off and collapsed into the sheets in her t-shirt and socks, the scent of her own sex faint on her hands.
Darkness swallowed her the second she closed her eyes. But it wasn’t peaceful. Her dreams were a fevered, swirling reel.
She was back in the parking lot, but she was on the hood of the car. The metal was cold through her thin shirt. Hands were everywhere, anonymous, possessive. She was both watching and participating, her body responding with an eager hunger that shamed her awake self. Serena’s face loomed in her vision, those green eyes approving, then demanding. "More," the dream-Serena whispered, and the dream-Jasmine obeyed, opening herself up to things that made her whimper in her sleep, her legs twitching against the twisted sheets.
She passed out into a deeper, blacker sleep just before dawn, one hand still curled between her thighs, her face pressed into the pillow, chased by shadows of what she’d seen and what, somewhere deep down, she now desperately wanted to know.
