Chapter 1: Introduction
The low hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses filled the air at the upscale penthouse party. The skyline of Chicago sprawled out behind the floor-to-ceiling windows, a dazzling display of twinkling lights and towering buildings. Niral, a tall, muscular figure with dark hair and eyes, stood in the midst of it all, nursing a whiskey on the rocks and surveying the room. He was used to being the center of attention, both in his professional life as a successful entrepreneur and in his personal life, where his dominant nature always seemed to draw people in.
But tonight, his focus was elsewhere. Across the room, he spotted Stuti, his girlfriend of three years, laughing at something the man next to her had said. Akshay, a new acquaintance, was leaning in a little too close for Niral's comfort, his hand casually resting on Stuti's arm.
Niral's grip tightened around his glass, the ice cubes clinking together. He knew that look, that smile. He'd seen it before, with other men who'd thought they could take what was his. He moved through the crowd with the grace of a predator, his eyes never leaving Stuti.
When he finally reached her, he didn't acknowledge Akshay, instead wrapping an arm possessively around Stuti's waist and pulling her close. She looked up at him, her dark eyes wide with surprise, but quickly melted into his embrace.
"Hey, babe," she said, her voice soft and sultry. "You're being a little territorial tonight."
Niral's lips curved into a smirk, his thumb gently stroking her side. "Just making sure everyone knows you're taken, love," he murmured, his voice a low rumble that only she could hear.
He turned to Akshay, his expression neutral. "Akshay, right? I don't think we've formally met."
Akshay raised an eyebrow, clearly not missing the undercurrent in Niral's voice. "Niral, right? Pleasure to finally meet you. Stuti here has been telling me all about you."
Stuti's eyes widened at Akshay's comment, but Niral just smiled, his hand never leaving her waist. "Oh, I'm sure she has. She knows I love hearing about these little chats after the fact."
Akshay chuckled, clearly trying to diffuse the tension.
"Well, it's been great talking to you, Stuti. But I think I see someone I need to catch up with. Excuse me."
Stuti watched Akshay walk away, a slight frown marring her otherwise smooth forehead. Niral could see the wheels turning in her head, trying to figure out what he was thinking. He waited until Akshay was a safe distance away before turning his attention back to her.
"You've been flirting with him all night," Niral stated, his voice low.
Stuti's eyes widened in surprise. "What? No, I wasn't."
Niral arched an eyebrow.
"Really? Because I saw the way he was looking at you. The way you were laughing at his lame jokes. The way he was touching your arm."
Stuti rolled her eyes. "Niral, you're being ridiculous. It was just harmless flirting. You know I love it when you get all possessive and dominant, but you're being a bit much tonight."
Niral's grip tightened on her waist, pulling her closer. He could feel her heart racing, could see the slight blush on her cheeks. She was turned on by this, by the tension, by the power play. He leaned in closer, his voice a low growl.
