Chapter 5: Round Two
The cord pulsed between them, a thick, blueish rope of life still tethering the wriggling, mewling baby to the vast, trembling landscape of her mother. Cindy’s eyes fluttered closed for a second, just a breath, savoring the primal accomplishment. Then the practical reality, and the lingering pressure beneath it, reasserted itself.
“We need to move,” she said, her voice raspy but firm. “I need to deliver the placenta before the next one gets ideas. And I’m not doing it on the bathroom floor.” She looked at Julian, her gaze clearing from its haze of effort. “Grab some towels. The thick ones from the warmer.”
He moved numbly, his mind struggling to catalog the miracles: the crying baby, the raw, powerful sight of Cindy, the thrumming cord. He fetched the warm, fluffy towels, wrapping one around the baby on Cindy’s chest and draping another over her shoulders. With careful coordination, his hands supporting her elbows, they managed to stand. Cindy cradled the newborn with one arm, the other pressed low against her abdomen, which still loomed enormous, though subtly altered.
The walk to the bedroom was a slow, shuffling procession. Every few steps, Cindy would pause, a faint grimace crossing her face. “Cramping,” she explained shortly. “The uterus is already trying to clamp down. It’s… efficient.”
They reached the sanctuary of the bedroom. The candles had burned low, casting long, dancing shadows. The scent of jasmine had been joined by the metallic, organic smell of birth. Cindy went straight to the bed, lowering herself with a groan onto her side, facing the center. She arranged the baby at her breast, and with a knowing nudge, the tiny girl latched on, the strong, rhythmic suckling echoing in the quiet room. A soft sigh of relief escaped Cindy. “Good for the cramps,” she murmured, her fingers stroking the damp hair on the baby’s head.
Julian stood at the foot of the bed, unsure of his role now. He watched the intimate scene, the baby nursing, Cindy’s face softened in the candlelight. But even in repose, her body was working. He could see it—a slow, rolling tighten across her belly, different from the explosive contractions before, but purposeful.
“Don’t just stand there,” Cindy said without opening her eyes. “There’s time. Maybe twenty minutes, if she’s greedy.” She shifted her hips, a deliberate, suggestive movement. The view from behind was still staggering. The colossal swell of her ass, the full, heavy curves of her thighs, and between them, the evidence of the recent passage: swollen, parted, and glistening. The umbilical cord trailed from her, down between her legs, over the edge of the bed.
She looked over her shoulder at him, her expression a complex mix of exhaustion, command, and a dark, knowing hunger. “The doctor said sex can help bring on the next labor. We’ve already proven that. And now… it might help things along. Ease the ache.” She swallowed, her throat working. “I’m empty up top but full down below. I can feel the next one, right there, waiting. I want you to… stir the pot, Julian. From behind. While I feed our daughter.”
The request was so audacious, so perfectly in keeping with her raw, unfiltered nature, that it bypassed his shock and went straight to his core. His body responded instantly, a sharp, aching renewal of desire amidst the aftermath.
“Are you sure?” he heard himself ask, even as he moved closer.
“I’ve never been more sure of anything,” she breathed, her hand leaving the baby’s head to reach back and part herself for him, a gesture of shocking intimacy. “I need the distraction. I need to feel full of you, not just of them. It’ll help the afterpains, too. Make the placenta pass easier.”
He knelt on the bed behind her, the silken sheets cool under his knees. The scent here was all her, mingled with the new scent of birth. He guided himself to her, finding her incredibly wet, hot, and open—profoundly changed, softer, more yielding, but still tightly gripping. He pushed in with a slow, careful glide, and she cried out, a sharp sound that melted into a long, satisfied groan.
“Yes,” she hissed, pushing back against him. “Just like that. Slow. Deep.”
He moved within her, a rhythm that was the antithesis of the frantic kitchen coupling. This was deliberate, sensual, a deep, rocking connection. From this angle, he could see everything: the curve of her hip, the magnificent slope of her belly where their first daughter nursed, the focused concentration on Cindy’s profile. He could feel the occasional, grinding cramp of her uterus tightening around nothing, and he moved through it, a counterpoint of pleasure to the internal ache.
The baby suckled loudly, a primal soundtrack. Cindy’s breaths became ragged, torn between sensations. “Oh, god, that’s it,” she moaned. “It’s… stretching everything just right. I can feel the afterbirth loosening. Don’t stop.”
He buried his face between her shoulder blades, his pace increasing slightly, driven by her commands and his own overwhelming need. The eroticism was tangled inextricably with the medical, the sensual with the savage. He was inside her as her body performed one of its most fundamental functions, and the taboo intensity of it pushed him to the edge.
Cindy suddenly gasped, her body seizing up around him not with a labor pain, but with a different, internal shift. “It’s coming,” she panted, her voice urgent. “The placenta. Pull out. Pull out now.”
He withdrew instantly, scrambling back. Cindy rolled slightly onto her back, her legs drawing up. With a low, grunting push that seemed to require little effort, a soft, liver-like mass slid from her onto the towel she’d hastily positioned beneath her. It was a dark, veined thing, connected by the still-pulsing cord to the baby, who had detached from the breast and was now fussing softly.
Cindy stared at it for a moment, a look of detached fascination on her face. Then she looked at Julian, her eyes gleaming with a fierce light. “See? Efficient.” She took a few deep, cleansing breaths. The profound cramping seemed to ease. For a moment, there was a strange, suspended peace.
It lasted less than a minute.
A new, unmistakable pressure began to build, lower and more insistent than the afterpains. Cindy’s eyes widened. She let out a slow, controlled breath. “Okay,” she whispered, a smile touching her lips. “Okay, baby number two. You’re impatient.” She gently lifted their nursing daughter, cord and all, and placed her in the crook of Julian’s arm. “Hold her. Keep the cord slack.”
He took the baby, the tiny weight shocking in its solidity. Cindy rolled back onto her side, facing away from him, curling her top leg up toward her chest. “This is how we do it now,” she said, her voice already tightening with focus. “The second one usually comes faster. The path is… well, you paved it.” She reached back, groping for his hand, and placed it on the crest of her belly. “You’ll feel it.”
He did. Almost immediately, a deep, rolling wave of muscle tightened under his palm. It wasn’t a sharp peak, but a broad, hardening swell that demanded attention. Cindy began to breathe in sharp huffs, then held it, bearing down with a guttural, sustained groan.
From his vantage point, he watched, mesmerized. The previous stretching had not receded. As she pushed, the visible progress was startlingly rapid. The thick, dark hair of the second child’s crown presented itself almost immediately, stretching the already swollen tissues with a terrifying, inevitable ease.
“It’s coming,” Cindy panted, her body seizing with another powerful urge. “This one… doesn’t want to wait.” She gave another monumental push, her cry tearing through the room, and the head surged forth completely in one smooth, slick motion, turning to face her thigh.
One more push, shorter, almost an afterthought, and the second little body slithered out into the world, followed by a gush of fluid. Another girl. She lay quietly for a second on the towel, then let out a robust, angry wail.
Cindy laughed, a breathless, triumphant sound, and reached back between her legs to guide the newborn up onto her chest. “Hi, you,” she cooed, her voice cracking with emotion. “You were in a hurry.” She looked at Julian and their firstborn, her face radiant with sweat and exhaustion and victory. “Two down.”
The words hung in the air, a promise and a warning. The immense, still-distended curve of her belly tightened again, a restless, shifting movement that was not a contraction, but a clear signal of occupancy. The third child was turning, settling, preparing for its own journey.
Cindy met Julian’s gaze, her eyes dark with anticipation and unspent effort. “The last one,” she said, her hand splaying over the remaining bulge. “She’s got all the room now. She’s going to take her time.” She shifted, wincing slightly. “But she’s coming. And I’m so… open.” She let her head fall back on the pillow, a slow, sensual smile spreading across her face as she nursed the second baby. “Get comfortable. This might be the slowest one yet.”
This might be the slowest one yet.” The words were a languid promise, a stark contrast to the frantic progression of the second birth. For a long while, there was only the sound of two infants making soft, snuffling sounds against her skin, and the wet, rhythmic pull of the second daughter nursing. Cindy’s body seemed to be gathering itself, the occasional mild tightening across her belly more like a distant rumble of thunder than an immediate storm.
She shifted, carefully disengaging the now-sleepy newborn and placing her beside the first in the nest of towels. The two cords, pale and still, lay side by side. Cindy pushed herself up to sit on the edge of the bed, her legs dangling. The monumental swell of her belly, though reduced, was still a formidable presence, a taut dome housing its final occupant. She looked down at herself, at the raw, beautiful mess between her thighs, and then at Julian, who stood holding the firstborn.
“I need to move,” she said, her voice resolute. “I can feel her, just… sitting there. She needs a nudge.” A slow, deep ache began to build in her pelvis, and she breathed through it, her eyes fluttering closed. “Yeah. There you are. Lazy girl.”
The contraction passed, leaving a renewed pressure in its wake. Cindy slid off the bed, her feet planting firmly on the floor. She winced as she straightened, a hand going to the small of her back. Then, with a determined grunt, she slowly lowered herself into a deep squat beside the bed, her back against its frame for support. The position was breathtakingly primal. It opened her pelvis, and the weight of the remaining baby bore down with new, direct force. Her body was a testament to sheer power, thighs straining, the full, heavy globes of her breasts swaying.
Her eyes, dark and hungry, locked onto Julian. He was still cradling their daughter, transfixed by the raw display. “Put her down, Julian,” Cindy commanded softly, her breath already beginning to hitch with another gathering wave. “Come here. I’m not done with you.”
He laid the baby gently beside her sister, his own arousal, which had never fully faded, now a sharp, demanding ache. He stepped to her, the evidence of it blatant. Cindy didn’t hesitate. Her hand snaked out, wrapping around him, guiding him to her lips. She looked up at him, her expression a mix of defiance and need, and then took him into her mouth.
The heat and wetness were shocking. She took him deep, her throat working around him, a deep, humming vibration of effort and pleasure emanating from her. She moved with a slow, consuming rhythm, her tongue tracing sensitive ridges. Then a contraction seized her. She went still, her lips sealed around his base, her nostrils flaring as she inhaled sharply through her nose. A low, guttural moan traveled the length of his shaft. She held him there, immobile, as the power of the surge rippled through her abdomen, visible even in the squatting position.
It ebbed. She released him with a wet pop, gasping for air, a string of saliva connecting her lip to his tip. “Fuck, that was a good one,” she panted, then immediately took him deep again, her throat accepting him utterly. She repeated this obscene, mesmerizing cycle—sucking him with a relentless, hungry passion, then freezing, breathing sexily and heavily through a peak of labor, using the intense sensation as her anchor.
“Cindy,” Julian gasped, his fingers tangling in her sweat-damp hair, not to guide her, but to hold on. The visual was utterly devastating. “What you’re doing… watching you work through a contraction like this, with me in your mouth… it’s the most arousing thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t—the power of it…”
She released him again, a sharp, triumphant smile on her swollen lips. “Good,” she rasped. “That’s the point.” Another tightening began, deeper, more urgent. She took him back in, swallowing him whole as her body clenched, her free hand bracing against the floor between her widespread feet. This contraction was longer, stronger. Her cheeks hollowed with the force of her breathing, her eyes squeezed shut in dual concentrations of pleasure and intensity.
When it ended, she didn’t return to him. She pushed him back gently, her own need shifting. A new, unmistakable urgency filled her face. “That did it,” she breathed, her voice ragged with impending effort. “She’s moving. Now. I need to push. Right now.”
She adjusted her squat, getting lower, her hands now planted firmly on the floor in front of her, presenting herself utterly. “I can feel her head,” she grunted, the words straining. “It’s right there. No crowning. Just… coming.”
With a roar that was pure, unadulterated force, she bore down. There was no slow stretch this time. The head, larger than the others, simply emerged, a swift, smooth bulge that became a full, wet crown in an instant. Julian dropped to his knees before her, watching, spellbound.
“One more!” she cried, the demand tearing from her throat. She pushed again, her entire being focused into that single, explosive act. The head surged free, turning, and with a final, slick, rushing slide, the third baby—another daughter—plummeted into his waiting hands.
The room echoed with Cindy’s ragged, triumphant sobs and the third fierce, indignant wail. She slumped back against the bed, her body finally, utterly empty, spent, and radiant.
The third baby’s cries mingled with her sisters’, a chorus of new life in the jasmine-scented room. Julian carefully placed the slick, wriggling daughter onto Cindy’s heaving chest, her tiny fists beating the air. Cindy’s hands, trembling now with spent adrenaline, rose to cradle the child, her touch instantly softening from Herculean effort to gentle reverence. “Hello, stubborn one,” she whispered, her voice cracked and thick.
The final placenta followed shortly after, a quiet, undramatic conclusion to the tempest. The physical release was immense, leaving her deflated, her enormous belly softening into a swollen, empty mound. The room fell into a sudden, profound quiet, broken only by the infants’ diminishing fussing and the ragged sound of their own breathing. The candles had burned to stubs, pooling wax on the bedside table.
“I can’t move,” Cindy murmured, her head lolling back against the bedframe. Her eyelids were at half-mast. “Every muscle is liquid.”
“Don’t try,” Julian said. He set about the practical tasks with a calm he didn’t know he possessed, gathering clean towels, ensuring each baby was dried and nestled safely against her body or in the nest of bedding. He found a blanket in the cedar chest at the foot of the bed, its scent clean and woody.
He helped her, his arms under her shoulders, to shift from the floor onto the edge of the mattress. She was pliant, a giantess rendered boneless. Together, they managed to lift her legs onto the bed, where she collapsed onto her back with a groan that was both pained and relieved. He draped the soft blanket over her, covering the magnificent, battered landscape of her body.
“The cords,” she mumbled, her words slurring.
“They’re fine. They’ve stopped pulsing. We’ll deal with it later.” He climbed in beside her, on his side, facing her. The bed was a wide sea of silk and cotton, now rumpled and stained with the evidence of the night. He curved his body around the space where the three tiny infants lay between them and Cindy’s warmth.
She turned her head on the pillow, her eyes finding his in the dim light. The fierce command was gone, replaced by a hollowed-out, vulnerable softness. “We made them,” she said, as if realizing it for the first time.
“You did all the work,” he replied, his hand coming to rest on her arm, his thumb stroking the damp skin.
“You were here.” Her eyes closed. “You saw it all. You didn’t run.”
“Nowhere else to go.” He watched the steady rise and fall of her breathing, slower now, deepening. The babies had quieted, two sleeping, the third making soft, suckling motions in her sleep against Cindy’s skin. The scent of blood and salt and milk was intimate, overpowering the jasmine.
Cindy’s hand fumbled across the sheets until it found his, their fingers intertwining. Her grip was weak but sure. “Don’t let go,” she breathed, the words barely audible.
“Never.”
Her breathing evened out, becoming a deep, slow rhythm. The last of the tension bled from her face, leaving behind a serene, exhausted peace. Julian watched her, then the three small heads with their caps of dark hair. The weight of the last twenty-four hours crashed over him—the boutique, the kitchen, the shower, the wall, the final, powerful squat—a relentless cascade of sensation that left him numb.
His own eyes grew heavy, the silence now a blanket. The flickering candlelight danced on Cindy’s cheekbone. He listened to the symphony of their breaths: hers deep and weary, theirs quick and light. His last conscious thought was the warmth of her hand in his, an anchor in the quiet dark.
They slept.
