Chapter 1: Opening Image
The sand was warm and soft under my bare feet, each step a gentle invitation to slow down, to breathe in the salty air and let the world pass by at a leisurely pace. I loved this feeling, the sense of vastness that comes with being by the sea. The endless nature of it all—the sky, the water, the horizon—it’s like a constant reminder that there’s more to life than the typical nine-to-five routine.
I was on vacation with the gang, and we’d picked this little slice of paradise for a change of scenery.
The beach villa was tucked away in a secluded cove, a gem hidden among the lush tropical foliage. The pavilions were open-air structures, their wooden frames adorned with colorful flowers and vines that danced in the breeze. Each one offered a breathtaking view of the azure ocean, a constant reminder of why we’d all chosen to escape to this corner of the world.
I walked along the water's edge, enjoying the rhythm of the waves as they lapped against the shore. The sun was beginning to set, casting an orange and pink glow across the sky.
I could hear the distant laughter from my friends who were probably already into their second round of drinks back at the villa. I smiled, thinking of all the crazy nights we'd had together. But tonight, I was feeling something different. A restlessness that couldn't be chased away by the sound of the waves or the warmth of the sun.
As I turned around to head back, I saw her. She was standing under one of the palm trees, her long, tanned legs and the curve of her hips visible through the sheer, white dress she wore.
Her dark hair was pulled up in a messy bun, with a few loose strands framing her face. She hadn't noticed me yet, and I found myself frozen in place, captivated by the way the setting sun highlighted her profile.
As if sensing my gaze, she turned around, her eyes meeting mine. She smiled, a slow, knowing smile that sent a jolt through me. "Lost?" she asked, her voice a low purr.
I shook my head, but no words came out. She walked towards me, each step slow and deliberate, her hips swaying gently.
