Chapter 1: The Poolside Seduction
The sun had begun to bleed into the horizon, turning the sky over Virginia a deep, bruised purple. The air by the pool was thick and warm, smelling of chlorine, jasmine, and the lingering smoke from the grill where Tom had cooked the steaks. Char stretched on the lounger, the damp fabric of her bikini bottom clinging to her skin. She knew Josh was watching. She could feel the heat of his gaze like a physical touch tracing the line of water droplet sliding from her collarbone down into the valley of her breasts.
It was a delicious feeling.
Tom’s voice, low and confident, carried from the other side of the pool. He was showing Emily the outdoor shower, his hand resting lightly on the small of her back. Emily laughed, a nervous, bright sound, and looked up at Tom with wide eyes. Char watched them, a slow curl of excitement tightening in her stomach. Emily was so petite next to Tom’s pilot-built frame, her new bikini cute and patterned where Char’s was minimalist black.
“You’re dripping on the pavers,” Josh said. His voice was tighter than it had been during dinner.
Char turned her head lazily on the towel. He was sitting on the edge of a lounger, leaning forward with a beer bottle dangling between his knees. He was trying so hard to look at her face. His eyes, a dark green, kept flickering down to her body, then snapping back up, guilty.
“It’s a pool deck, Josh. It’s supposed to get wet,” Char said, her voice a lazy murmur. She sat up slowly, letting the position emphasize the curve of her waist, the swell of her breasts against the scant triangles of her top. “Thirsty?”
She meant the drink cart behind him, but the way his throat moved as he swallowed told her he’d taken it another way.
“I’m good,” he managed, taking a quick swig of beer.
From across the water, Tom’s laugh rumbled. Emily was testing the outdoor shower spray, squealing as the mist caught her. Tom stood close, too close for just polite instruction, his fingers now tracing idle circles on her bare shoulder. Char saw Emily shiver, and not from the water.
It was happening. The unspoken thing they’d all been orbiting all evening was finally pulling them into its gravity.
Char stood in one fluid motion and walked to the pool’s edge. She dove in, a clean slice into the cool, blue-lit water. She swam underwater, the world going silent and heavy, before breaking the surface right in front of Josh’s lounger. She pushed her hair back, water streaming down her face.
“It’s too hot out here,” she said, breathing a little heavily. “Aren’t you boiling in those shorts?”
He just stared. Up close, she could see the conflict in his face—the polite young husband warring with the very obvious, very attentive man. His pupils were wide.
“I’m okay,” he said again, the phrase becoming his mantra.
“Josh,” she said, softer. She placed her hands on the rough concrete edge of the pool, level with his feet.“Relax. We’re all friends here. Your Emily’s having fun with Tom.”
As if on cue, Emily’s laughter rang out again, higher now, more breathless. Char didn’t look away from Josh. She saw the moment he let go, the moment his shoulders dropped an inch. His eyes finally traveled the full, slow length of her body in the water, from her face, down her submerged torso, to where her legs kicked gently, pale and ghostly in the underwater light.
“She really admires you,” Josh said, his voice rough. “Talks about you all the time.”
“I admire her too,” Char said. “She’s brave. Curious.” She lifted a hand from the water, trailing a fingertip over her own shoulder, mimicking where Tom had touched Emily. “Are you curious, Josh?”
Before he could answer, Tom called over. “Getting lonely over here, you two.” He and Emily were walking back, hand in hand. Emily’s face was flushed, her smile both thrilled and terrified. Tom’s expression was pure, hungry satisfaction. “Josh, come check out this showerhead. The pressure is insane.”
Josh stood, a little unsteady. He offered Char a hand to help her out of the pool. She took it, his grip strong and warm. He pulled her up, and she rose, water cascading from her body, her bikini clinging to every curve. She stood close to him, not letting go of his hand immediately, feeling the tremble in his fingers.
“Go on,” she whispered, her lips near his ear. “Play with your wife. Watch my husband. I’ll be right here.”
He exhaled, a sharp, shaky sound, and let her hand go. He walked toward Tom and Emily, his steps deliberate.
Char settled back onto her lounger, watching the three of them. Tom was explaining the shower controls, his arm around Emily’s waist now. Josh stood nearby, watching Tom’s hands on his wife. Char saw no anger on his face, only a focused, intense absorption. Then his eyes cut back to Char, dark and full of a question.
Tom turned the shower on. A cascade of water fell over Emily, plastering her hair, her bikini top, to her skin. She gasped, laughing, and Tom stepped into the spray with her, still in his board shorts. He was saying something to her, his mouth close to her ear. Emily’s laughter faded into something else. She looked at Josh, then at Char, her eyes seeking permission, reassurance.
Char gave her a slow, encouraging smile and a nod. This was it. The line was crossing from suggestion to action.
Tom leaned down and kissed Emily’s neck. Not a peck. A slow, open-mouthed kiss that made Emily’s eyes flutter closed. Her hands came up to Tom’s biceps, not pushing him away, but holding on.
Josh’s breath hitched audibly. He was rooted to the spot, his fists clenched at his sides.
“Josh,” Char said, her voice cutting through the sound of the water. He looked at her, almost desperate. She patted the empty space on the lounger beside her. “Come sit with me.”
He crossed the distance in a few strides and sank down beside her, his body radiating a tense heat. He couldn’t stop watching Tom’s hands roam over Emily’s slick, petite body, his mouth finding hers now in a deep, hungry kiss.
“Is this okay?” Josh asked Char, the words strained.
“Look at her,” Char murmured, leaning into him, her bare shoulder against his arm. “Does she look upset?”
Emily did not. She was kissing Tom back fervently, her small hands tangling in his hair. One of Tom’s hands slid down to squeeze her thigh, hiking her leg up around his hip.
Josh made a low sound in his throat. His hand found Char’s on the lounger, their fingers tangling together, his grip almost painfully tight.
“He’s wanted this,” Char whispered, her own arousal a sharp, sweet ache as she watched her husband devour another woman. “He’s wanted to watch me, too. To see someone else touch me.” She turned her head, her lips brushing Josh’s ear. “Have you thought about it? Touching me?”
His control shattered. He turned and then he kissed her, his mouth hot and urgent, tasting of beer and desire. It was messy, hungry, all the pent-up watching of the evening exploding in the contact. Char kissed him back, firm, warm, tonguing, letting her hands slide over the hard muscles of his back, pulling him in to her closer. The rough texture of his shorts scratched against her thigh.
A louder moan from the shower. Emily’s head was thrown back, Tom’s mouth on her chest, his hand working between their bodies. Josh broke the kiss, panting, to watch.
“Go to her,” Char breathed, her own heart hammering. “Be with your wife. Let me watch you.”
It was the final permission. Josh stood, shucking off his t-shirt, and walked toward the shower. Tom saw him coming and released Emily with a wicked grin, stepping back slightly. Emily, dazed and breathing hard, reached for Josh. He pulled her to him, kissing her deeply, his hands cupping her face, then sliding down her back to pull her hips against his. Char could see the pronounced, hard outline of his arousal straining against his wet shorts.
Tom left them there, entwined under the water, and walked back to Char. His eyes were dark, his chest heaving. Water dripped from his hair. He looked from the young couple to his wife, his expression one of primal triumph.
“You are spectacular,” he growled, kneeling before her lounger. He didn’t touch her yet. He just looked, drinking in the sight of her sprawled there, visibly aroused, watching Josh’s hands roam over Emily’s body. “This is everything you wanted, isn’t it?”
“Almost,” Char said, her voice husky. She reached out and ran a finger down Tom’s sternum. “I wanted to feel him.”
Tom’s smile was all teeth. He glanced back. Josh had Emily pressed against a big louger and now, his body moving against hers in a rhythm that was unmistakable. One of Emily’s legs was wrapped around him, her mouth on his shoulder.
“Then go get him,” Tom said, his hand finally coming up to squeeze Char’s thigh, a possessive, encouraging pressure. “He’s yours. Bring him to me.”
Char rose. The night air kissed her wet skin. She walked toward the shower, toward the sound of rushing water and ragged breath, the final, thrilling step into the fantasy they’d only ever spoken of in whispers. The momentum was now a riptide, pulling them all into its deep, unknown current.
