Chapter 2: Building Tension
The high school gymnasium was a symphony of sensations, a cacophony of grunts and the rhythmic slapping of bodies against mats. The air was thick with the scent of testosterone and sweat, the heat intensifying with each passing moment. Kindra, her heart still pounding from the earlier incident, leaned against the wall, her eyes scanning the room. She could see James from where she stood, his muscular frame stretching and contracting as he sparred with another team member. His green eyes were focused, his dark hair damp with sweat, and despite her best efforts, Kindra found herself drawn to him.
She quickly looked away, her cheeks flushing. She had to keep her distance, both physically and emotionally. She was a married woman, a mother, and most importantly, their coach.
"Hey, Coach K," one of the wrestlers, a lanky freshman named Mikey, called out as he walked by. "You okay? You look a little red."
Kindra offered him a smile, although it felt more like a grimace. "Just a little hot in here, that's all, Mikey. You should be used to it by now."
Mikey grinned, revealing a mouthful of braces.
