Chapter 1: Pinned and Helpless
The buzz was the first thing you noticed. A sickly, electrical drone from the cheap fluorescent lights overhead, like insects trapped in a glass jar. It was the background hum to the symphony of grunts, the crash of metal plates, and the faint, ever-present smell of human sweat and disinfectant that never quite won the battle. Scott loved it. This was his temple, his proving ground. The air even had a taste—metallic, like licking a battery, with an undercurrent of something else. Something sour. Desperation, maybe.
He focused on the bar above him. Two hundred and twenty pounds. More than he’d ever attempted. The rust on the inner plates caught the light as he settled his back on the bench, the vinyl cool and sticky through his thin tank top. His heart wasn't just pounding; it was a frantic drum solo against his ribs.
Idiot move, Scott, a tiny voice in the back of his head whispered. No spotter. Again.
He silenced it with a flex of his pecs. He didn’t need a spotter. Spotters were for people who didn’t believe in themselves. He took a deep, sharp breath that smelled of iron and rubber, unracked the bar, and began his descent.
The weight was immediate, a profound, honest pressure. For the first second, it felt good.Solid. Then his arms began to tremble. The bar stalled halfway back up, his triceps screaming, a hot wire of panic shooting down his spine. His elbows wavered. The world narrowed to the thick, knurled steel an inch above his throat. The buzz of the lights grew louder, drowning out the distant thump of someone’s workout playlist.
His arms buckled.
The bar crashed down onto the safety pins with a deafening CLANG that echoed through the gym, leaving him pinned, the bar hovering just above his windpipe. He was stuck. A bug on its back. The shock of the failure was colder than the sweat soaking his shirt. He couldn’t lift it. He couldn’t wriggle out. He just had to lie there, exposed, the burn in his chest turning to icy humiliation.
“Looks like you bit off a little more than you could chew, big guy.”
The voice was smooth, amused. He tilted his head, straining his neck. A pair of neon-green training shoes came into view, then the tight curve of calves, the flared cut of black leggings.Tina. He knew her by reputation. She was always here, always watching. She was lean, with a sharp, pretty face and eyes that never seemed to blink. She was looking down at him not with concern, but with a clinical interest, like he was a specimen.
“Little help?” he managed, his voice tight.
“Oh, I’ll help.” She didn’t move to lift the bar. Instead, she knelt beside the bench, her face level with his. She smelled of vanilla perfume and something warmer, muskier. Her hand came to rest on his stomach, her fingers splayed over his damp shirt. The touch was so unexpected, so utterly out of place, that he froze. “You’re really stuck, aren’t you?” she murmured, more to herself than to him. Her gaze traveled down his body.
Before he could process it, her other hand was at the waistband of his gym shorts. The shhhhk of the Velcro fly was absurdly loud. His brain short-circuited. “What the fuck are you—?”
“Shut up,” she said, her voice dropping, no longer amused but focused, intense. “You wanted to be a big man lifting big weight. Now you get to lie there and take what you get.”
Her fingers were inside his shorts now, cool and determined. She wasn’t teasing. This was surgical. She pulled his cock out, already half-hard from the adrenaline and the sheer surreal terror of the moment. She gave him a few rough, efficient strokes, her eyes on his face, watching his confusion twist into something else. He was so shocked, so helplessly pinned, that his body responded against his will, swelling in her grip.
“Tina, stop… someone’s gonna see…”
“Let them.” She was already pulling at the side of her leggings, yanking the material down her hip just enough. She wasn’t wearing anything underneath. He caught a glimpse of dark, trimmed hair before she positioned herself over him, one hand on the bench for balance, the other guiding him.
There was no preamble. No kiss. She sank down onto him in one brutal, claiming stroke. He cried out, a strangled gasp, as her heat engulfed him. It was incredibly tight, almost violent. She was wet, but it was a functional wetness, not arousal. She began to move immediately, a harsh, grinding rhythm that had nothing to do with his pleasure. The bench shifted minutely with her thrusts. The bar above him seemed to vibrate with every slam of her hips.
“Fuck,” he breathed, eyes wide, staring up at the ceiling tiles. This was insane. He was still trapped. The weight was still there. And she was riding him, her breath hot and quick in his ear.
“That’s right,” she grunted, her rhythm relentless. “Just lie there. You wanted to lift so bad? Now you’re just the weight. My weight.”
Her words were spikes. Humiliation and a grotesque, unwelcome excitement twisted together in his gut. He could feel every internal contour of her as she pistoned up and down, her muscles clenching around him. She leaned forward, her small breasts pressing against his chest through their clothes, her mouth against his ear.
“You’re gonna come in me,” she whispered, and it wasn’t a request. It was a command. “You’re gonna fucking fill me up. Right now.”
The combination of the danger, the vulnerability, her sheer, audacious control, tipped him over the edge he didn’t even know he was approaching. His hips jerked up, meeting her final, deep slam. He came with a choked sob, spilling into her, the pulses wracking his trapped body. She kept moving, milking him, until he was spent and shuddering.
Only then did she stop. She lifted herself off him with a soft, wet sound. He was still exposed, soft and messy. She casually pulled her leggings back up, then reached for his shorts. She tucked him away and fastened the Velcro with a few efficient pats, like she was tidying up a tool.
She looked at the bar, then at him. With a strength that surprised him, she gripped the center of the barbell and lifted it just enough for him to slide out from under it. The metal clanged once more as she let it settle back onto the pins.
He scrambled off the bench, his legs watery, his mind a white-noise static of shame and disorientation. He couldn’t look at her. He couldn’t look at anyone.
Tina picked up a nearby towel and wiped her hands. She was perfectly calm. “You should always use a spotter, Scott,” she said, her voice back to its normal, light tone. She smiled, a thin, satisfied curve of her lips. “You never know when you’ll need one.”
She turned and walked away, her sneakers silent on the rubber floor. Scott stood there, the taste of blood in his mouth from where he’d bitten his cheek. The metallic tang in the air was stronger now. He looked down at the bench, at the indent his body had left in the vinyl. He felt hollowed out. Used.
And as he grabbed his bag with trembling hands, a new, cold dread began to seep into the hollow space. It started with a single, clear memory: the fierce, possessive look in her eyes as she had whispered her command. It wasn’t about sex. It had never been about sex.
He practically ran for the door, the buzz of the lights following him like a taunt.
He practically ran for the door, the buzz of the lights following him like a taunt. The cool evening air outside hit him like a slap. He gulped it down, leaning against the gritty brick wall of the building, waiting for his heart to stop trying to punch its way out of his chest.
What the fuck had that been?
His skin felt tight, crawling with the ghost of her hands. He could still smell her vanilla perfume, now foul and cloying in his memory. He pushed off the wall and started walking, fast, with no destination. His car could wait. He needed to move.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. A text from his buddy, Mark: Where’d you disappear to? Saw you trying two-twenty. Beast mode lol.
Scott stared at the screen, his thumb hovering. How do you type out I got pinned and then some psycho gym chick raped me on the bench press? You don’t. You just… don’t. He shoved the phone back into his pocket, unanswered.
For three days, he couldn’t sleep. The feeling of being trapped under that bar played on a loop every time he closed his eyes. The sound of the Velcro. The ruthless expression on her face. He showered until his skin was raw, trying to scrub the sensation away. It was useless.
He avoided the gym. The thought of walking back in there, of seeing the rust on those plates, the specific vinyl of that bench, made his stomach twist. He tried to work out in his apartment, doing push-ups on the thin carpet, but his own sweat brought the memory flooding back.
A week later, he saw her at the grocery store.
He was in the cereal aisle, holding a box of shredded wheat like it was a holy relic, when he felt the prickle on the back of his neck. He looked up.
She was at the end of the aisle, pushing a cart with one hand. Her other hand rested lightly on her lower belly. She was wearing a loose t-shirt and yoga pants. She caught his eye and stopped. She didn’t smile. She just looked at him, her gaze flat and knowing.
Then she did something strange. She let her hand drift in a slow, deliberate circle over her stomach. Her eyes never left his.
A cold spike of pure dread drove straight through Scott’s sternum. The box of cereal slipped from his fingers, exploding on the linoleum floor in a puff of brown flakes and shredded wheat dust. He didn’t stop to clean it up. He turned and walked, then ran, past the bewildered stock clerk, out into the blinding parking lot sunlight.
The math was simple, brutal, and inescapable. One time. No protection. She’d taken everything, and she hadn’t been careless. She’d been precise.
SHE GETS PREGNANT.
