Chapter 1: First Button Falls
The wool beanie came off first, matted dark hair springing free as she flung it into the wings with a wet thwack. “Fuck me, it’s hotter than Billy Hell’s backyard out here,” she growled into the mic, her fingers already working the stubborn zipper of her parka.
She has on a long sleeve shirt underneath
The heavy canvas parted with a rasp, releasing the swampy heat that had pooled between her breasts. Her thin, gray thermal was already plastered to her skin, the outline of her nipples visible and tight against the damp fabric.song
The parka hit the deck with a dull thud, and a collective gasp rose from the amphitheater bowl, half-shock, half-applause. She grinned, a quick flash of teeth in the spotlight, and leaned into the microphone. “Bet you thought this was just a concert,” she said, her voice a low smoke. “Turns out it’s a fucking meltdown.”She strapped her guitar back on, the strap slick against her thermal. “This one’s about bad decisions,” she announced, and launched into the grinding, defiant chords of “Supernova.” Her hips found the rhythm, a slow, circular grind against the body of the guitar as she sang, her voice wrapping around the lyrics about fuckups and glory. Sweat traced the line of her spine, darkening the gray fabric. With a final, snarling chord, she stepped back from the mic, kicked one leg high, and sent a worn black boot sailing over the monitor wedge. It landed in the front row with a soft thud
The next song started with a throbbing bass line, and her other boot was gone, flung sideways to skid across the stage like a puck. She stood there in her damp thermal and socks, wiggling her freed toes on the hot boards as the crowd’s roar washed over her.
The crowd’s roar crested as she grabbed the hem of the thermal, peeling the sodden fabric up over her head in one swift, desperate motion, leaving her in just a black bra and her remaining sock. She stood there, breathing hard, the heat licking her bare stomach as she muttered into the mic, "One down, one to go," before kicking into the next song, her hips punching the air with each chord, and as the final note rang out, she hooked a thumb into the top of her last sock, rolled it down her calf, and flicked it spinning into the dark.
The sodden thermal peeled away from her skin with a soft, sucking sound, leaving her standing in only a black bra and jeans under the burning lights. A drop of sweat traced the sharp line of her collarbone, slipped between her breasts, and vanished into the lace.
