Chapter 1: Lipstick and Smoke
The air in the living room was warm and still, humming with the low glow of amber lamps. Sherie took a long, deliberate drag from her Virginia Slim, the tip flaring bright in the semi-darkness. She exhaled slowly, watching the smoke curl toward the mirrored ceiling where it melted into the flickering reflections of a dozen vanilla-scented candles.
From her perch on the arm of the oversized leather sofa, she could see everything. The way the red lace of her bustier cut into the soft fullness of her breasts. The way her stockings shimmered up her thighs. A stiletto dangled from her toes, swinging with a lazy, patient rhythm.
The click of the deadbolt was sharp in the quiet.
Mike stood by the front door, his silver-gray hair neat, his posture relaxed. He didn’t look at her, not yet. He was listening. Sherie watched the line of his shoulders, the familiar, calm command in his stillness. He adored her like this. She knew it. The knowledge was a slow, sweet heat in her stomach, separate from the cigarette smoke.
A second key turned in the lock from the outside.
The door swung open, and the night air slipped in, cool and brief.
Nikki stood on the threshold, a silhouette against the streetlight. Then she stepped inside, and the details resolved. The tight black dress that hugged her curvy frame. The bold, red slash of her lips. Her short blonde hair was perfectly tousled. She carried the faint, clean scent of winter and Marlboro Lights.
“Traffic was a bitch,” Nikki said, her voice a low, playful rasp. She let her small handbag drop to the floor with a thud.
Mike closed the door, the lock engaging with a solid, final sound. He finally turned, his weathered face settling into a gentle smile. His eyes found Sherie first, a slow journey from her swinging heel up the length of her leg, over the curve of her hip, lingering on the cigarette held loosely between her fingers, and finally meeting her gaze. The look in his eyes wasn’t just hunger. It was appreciation. It was ownership. It was love, of a deep and complicated kind.
“You look expensive,” Nikki said, walking further into the room. Her heels tapped on the hardwood, then muffled on the rug.
“I feel expensive,” Sherie replied, taking another drag. She let the smoke pour from her lips as she spoke. “Mike picked this set out. Said the red would look like a warning.”
“A warning for what?”
“For whatever we feel like,” Mike said, his voice calm, steady. He came to stand behind the sofa, his hands resting on the back of it, a king observing his domain. His eyes were on Nikki now. “Kirk know you’re here?”
Nikki laughed, a genuine, throaty sound. “He knows I’m with Sherie. He thinks we’re watching documentaries and drinking chardonnay.” She reached into her clutch, pulling out her own pack of cigarettes and a lighter. She didn’t light one yet. Just held it. “He’s happy. Gets the game to himself. Everyone’s happy.”
Sherie stubbed her cigarette out in a heavy crystal ashtray on the side table. The leather sighed as she shifted, turning fully to face the room. The movement made her breasts shift within the lace. She saw Mike’s gaze drop, saw the quiet intake of his breath. This was the game. The slow, practiced unveiling. The performance for an audience of one who cherished every crass, beautiful detail.
“You’re overdressed, Nik,” Sherie said, her tone conversational, as if commenting on the weather.
“Aren’t I always?” Nikki shot back, but her fingers were already going to the zipper at her side. She pulled it down slowly, the sound loud in the quiet room. The dress loosened. She shrugged one shoulder free, then the other, letting the black fabric pool at her feet. She stood in matching black lingerie, sheer and intricate. Her body was a testament to six decades well-lived, soft in places, bold in others. She met Mike’s gaze unflinchingly, a challenge and an offering in one.
Mike didn’t move from his post. His expression was serene, but a muscle ticked in his jaw. “Come here,” he said, the words soft but not a request.
Nikki obeyed, walking toward the sofa, stopping a few feet from Sherie. The candlelight played over their skin, over the lace and satin, doubling them in the ceiling above.
Sherie felt Mike’s hands leave the sofa back. He came around, his movements deliberate. He stopped behind Nikki, not touching her, just looking over her shoulder at his wife. The connection between them was a live wire. His pleasure was in Sherie’s display, in her dominion over the moment. Nikki was the canvas, but Sherie was the artist.
He reached out then, but not for Nikki. His fingers traced the strap of Sherie’s bustier where it bit into the plush skin of her shoulder. A simple touch. It felt like a spark.
“Show her,” Mike said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Sherie’s red lips curved. She leaned forward, reaching for the ashtray. She pulled out another Virginia Slim, placed it between her lips, and lit it. The flame illuminated her face for a second—heavy makeup, sparkling eyes. She inhaled, the paper crackling.
Then, she extended the cigarette toward Nikki.
Nikki understood. She leaned in, closing her lips around the filter where Sherie’s lips had just been, and drew in a deep, audibly grateful breath. She held the smoke in her lungs for a long moment, her eyes closing, before exhaling a steady stream toward the mirrored sky above them. When her eyes opened, they were dark, liquid.
“Better,” Nikki murmured, handing the cigarette back.
The exchange was intimate, charged. A sharing of vice, of ritual.
Mike watched it all, his breath coming slightly faster now. This was what he loved. The spectacle. The shared degradation, beautiful and consensual. The proof of his wife’s power, which was, in turn, his own.
Sherie took the now-wet filter back into her mouth. She stood up, the stiletto settling firmly on her foot. She was taller than both of them in the heels. She placed a hand on Nikki’s waist, feeling the warmth and the slight tremor there through the sheer fabric.
“Mike likes to watch,” Sherie said, her mouth close to Nikki’s ear. “But he gets bored if we’re too polite.”
Nikki turned her head, her red lips brushing Sherie’s cheek. “I was never known for my politeness.”
“I know,” Sherie said. She glanced over Nikki’s shoulder at her husband. His hands were clenched at his sides, his kind face now etched with a raw, naked yearning that was theirs alone to see. “So,” Sherie continued, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, thick with promise. “Where should we start?”
“Start with me,” Nikki said, her voice barely more than a breath of warm air against Sherie’s painted mouth.
There was no hesitation. Sherie closed the last inch between them, her red lips meeting Nikki’s. It wasn’t a polite kiss. It was deep and searching from the first moment, a slow press that parted lips and welcomed tongue. Sherie tasted the lingering tang of nicotine and the waxy sweetness of Nikki’s lipstick. The familiar, intimate flavor of another woman. Nikki’s hands came up, fingers tangling in the carefully sprayed curls at the base of Sherie’s neck, pulling her closer.
From the sofa, Mike watched. The only sound was the wet, soft sound of their mouths moving together and the distant, muffled creak of leather as he shifted his weight. His gaze was fixed, unblinking.
Sherie broke the kiss, a string of saliva glinting between their mouths for a second before it snapped. She was breathing harder. She leaned her forehead against Nikki’s, her eyes closed. “Okay,” she whispered.
“Okay,” Nikki echoed.
Sherie’s hands slid down from Nikki’s waist, over the swell of her hips. She guided her backward, one slow step at a time, until the backs of Nikki’s knees hit the edge of the wide leather ottoman. Nikki sank down onto it, the material sighing under her weight. She looked up, her blonde hair messy now, her lipstick smudged beyond its careful lines. It made her look wild. Untamed.
Sherie stood before her, a vision in red lace and shadow. She reached for her own cigarette, forgotten in the ashtray, and brought it to her lips. She inhaled, the ember glowing, then slowly exhaled the smoke down over Nikki’s upturned face. Nikki’s eyes fluttered closed, her nostrils flaring as she breathed it in.
Then Sherie knelt. The movement was ritualistic, the red lace straining across her thighs. The stilettos angled awkwardly on the floor beside her. She placed her hands on Nikki’s knees, pushing them gently apart.
Mike leaned forward, his elbows on his knees. The calm observer was gone. His face was taut, his lips parted.
Sherie didn’t look at him. Her world had narrowed to the space between Nikki’s legs, to the sheer black fabric there. She pressed her face against it, inhaling the scent of perfume and skin and arousal. Nikki let out a shaky sigh, her hands coming down to cradle Sherie’s head.
With deliberate slowness, Sherie used her teeth to catch the edge of the fabric. She tugged it aside. She exposed Nikki to the warm, candlelit air. Then she replaced the fabric with her mouth.
Nikki jolted, a sharp gasp slicing the quiet. Her fingers tightened in Sherie’s hair. Sherie began slowly, a flat, broad stroke of her tongue, learning the texture, the taste, the sensitive geography. It was methodical. It was worshipful. It was absolutely degrading, and Nikki’s back arched, pushing herself more firmly against Sherie’s working mouth.
“Christ,” Mike whispered, the word rough and strained.
Sherie heard him. It fueled her. She settled into a rhythm, slow and deep, her own body throbbing in time with the motions of her tongue and lips. Nikki began to move against her, small, helpless rotations of her hips. Her breath came in ragged hitches, punctuated by soft, pleading moans.
The air thickened. The scent of sex and smoke and vanilla candles became one indistinguishable, heady perfume. The only sounds were Nikki’s escalating cries, the wet, intimate sounds of Sherie’s ministrations, and Mike’s ragged breathing from the shadows.
The only sounds were Nikki’s escalating cries, the wet, intimate sounds of Sherie’s ministrations, and Mike’s ragged breathing from the shadows.
Then Nikki’s hands, which had been cradling Sherie’s head, fisted tight in her hair. Not pulling her away, but holding her still, rooted to the spot. Sherie paused, her mouth still wet and warm against Nikki’s skin. She looked up, her lips gleaming in the low light.
“Enough,” Nikki breathed, her voice shredded and low. “My turn.”
She didn’t ask. She pulled Sherie up by the hair, a firm, insistent tug that brought her off her knees and tumbling forward. Sherie caught herself with her hands on the ottoman, straddling Nikki’s lap, their faces inches apart. Nikki’s eyes were dark, playful, and utterly in command. The submissive was gone.
“You’ve had your fun,” Nikki whispered, her smudged lips curling. She slid her hands down Sherie’s sides, over the red lace, her thumbs scraping the undersides of her breasts. “Sit back. Let me look at you.”
Sherie, breathless, complied. She settled her weight back onto Nikki’s thighs, putting herself on display. She felt exposed, more than before. This was different. Mike loved to watch her perform. This was Nikki conducting the orchestra.
Nikki’s gaze was a physical thing. It traveled over Sherie’s body with a nurse’s clinical appreciation and a lover’s hunger. She traced the lace edge of the bustier with a single finger, hooking it under the material and pulling it down just enough to free one heavy, soft breast. The air was cool on Sherie’s nipple. She shivered.
“Beautiful,” Nikki murmured, not to Sherie, but to the room. To Mike. She leaned in and took the peaked flesh into her mouth without ceremony, her tongue working in rough, circular motions.
A sharp gasp ripped from Sherie’s throat. Her head fell back, her own fingers digging into Nikki’s shoulders. The sensation was electric, direct, and completely devoid of the cautious worship she’d just offered. This was claiming.
From the sofa, Mike made a low, choked sound.
Nikki released Sherie’s breast with a soft pop. She looked past Sherie’s shoulder, directly at Mike. “You just going to sit there?” Her voice was all challenge, a little rough from the cigarettes. “She’s not a museum piece. Come feel what I’m feeling.”
Mike moved. He was off the sofa in one fluid motion, a predator finally unleashed from its leash. He crossed the room and knelt behind Sherie on the rug. His hands, warm and slightly rough, settled on her bare hips. He pressed a kiss to the back of her neck, right where her hairline ended.
“Do you feel what she’s doing to you?” Mike whispered into her skin.
Sherie could only nod, a jerky movement. Nikki had switched her attention to her other breast, her teeth applying a precise, breathtaking pressure. Sherie was anchored between them—Nikki’s mouth on her front, Mike’s solid presence at her back, his hands possessively mapping her waist, her stomach, sliding up to cover the breasts Nikki wasn’t consuming.
Nikki leaned back again, breathing heavily. She looked drunk on power. “Stand up. Both of you.”
It was a command. Mike helped Sherie to her feet. They stood beside the ottoman, Sherie swaying slightly in her heels. Nikki rose. She was shorter, but her presence expanded to fill the space. She pointed a finger at the center of the rug.
“Mike. Sit.”
Mike obeyed, lowering himself to the floor, his back against the front of the leather sofa. His eyes were wide, eager, glued to Nikki.
Nikki turned to Sherie. She put her hands on Sherie’s shoulders and spun her around to face Mike. “Now,” Nikki said, her mouth at Sherie’s ear. “You sit on him. Let him feel you. But you look at me.”
Sherie slowly lowered herself, guided by Nikki’s hands, until she was settled in Mike’s lap, his erection pressing against her through his pants and the thin lace of her panties. He groaned, his arms wrapping around her waist, holding her tight against him. She felt the frantic beat of his heart against her back.
But she kept her eyes on Nikki, as instructed.
Nikki stood before them, a queen surveying her subjects. She slowly reached behind her back, unhooked her own bra, and let it fall. She stepped out of her underwear, kicking it aside. Completely naked now, she was magnificent in her unapologetic fullness. She retrieved her pack of Marlboro Lights from the clutch on the floor, shook one out, and lit it.
She took a long drag, holding the smoke, her eyes locked on Sherie’s. She exhaled slowly, walking closer until she stood over them, the smoke curling around their heads.
“You watch me,” Nikki repeated, her voice calm and sure. She reached down with her free hand and cupped Sherie’s face. “And you,” she said, glancing down at Mike, “you just feel.” She brought the cigarette to her own lips, inhaled, and then bent down, capturing Sherie’s mouth in a deep, smoke-filled kiss.
As Nikki’s tongue explored her mouth, as the heat of Mike throbbed against her, Sherie understood the shift completely. The night was no longer hers to orchestrate. It was Nikki’s. And from the tight, almost painful grip of Mike’s arms around her, from the hungry way he buried his face in her neck, she knew he was discovering a whole new kind of pleasure. The pleasure of being used. Of following.
Nikki broke the kiss, straightening up. She took Sherie’s hand and placed it on Mike’s thigh.
“Now,” Nikki said, her eyes gleaming with mischief and absolute control. “Let’s really get started.”
“Let’s really get started.”
Nikki’s voice held a new register, a conductor’s calm before the storm. She took another drag from her cigarette, the ember flaring, and let the smoke leak slowly from her nostrils as she looked from Sherie’s flushed face down to Mike’s, his features tight with want.
“Sherie. Move aside.”
It wasn’t a question. It was a dismissal.
For a heartbeat, Sherie stayed where she was, feeling the solid warmth of Mike beneath her, the protective circle of his arms. Then the order penetrated the haze. She shifted her weight, pushing up from his lap. His arms reluctantly fell away. She stood on unsteady heels, taking a few steps back until her calves hit the leather ottoman. She sat, watching, her body humming with a sudden, hollow ache.
The space was Nikki’s now.
Mike looked up at her, his silver hair tousled, his breathing shallow. He didn’t speak. He just watched, utterly surrendered to whatever was coming.
Nikki knelt on the rug in front of him. The movement was deliberate, graceful. She placed her cigarette between her lips, inhaled deeply, and held the smoke. Then she reached for the buckle of his belt. The metal click was obscenely loud. She worked his pants open, her movements efficient, unhesitating.
She pulled him free. Mike’s head thumped back against the sofa cushion, a sharp exhale hissing through his teeth.
Nikki didn’t touch him with her hands. Not yet. She removed the cigarette from her mouth, holding it between two fingers. She leaned forward, her face inches from him, and exhaled a slow, concentrated stream of smoke that wrapped around his hardened flesh. Mike flinched, a full-body shiver, his eyes squeezed shut.
“Open your eyes,” Nikki murmured. “You watch this.”
His eyes flew open, wide and glassy.
She brought the cigarette to her own lips again, took a long, final drag until the tip burned bright, and then stubbed it out in the heavy ashtray on the floor beside her knee. The smoke remained in her lungs. She held it there, looking him dead in the eye as she lowered her mouth onto him.
She took him in slowly, deeply, her lips forming a perfect seal. As she began to move, a rhythmic, confident glide, she finally let the smoke escape. It seeped out from the corners of her mouth, from her nostrils, a faint, teasing plume that curled around the base of him with each descent.
Mike cried out, a raw, broken sound. His hands came up, hovering near her head, wanting to touch but not daring. He fisted them in his own hair instead. His hips lifted, a helpless little thrust, but Nikki controlled the pace completely, pinning him with a flat palm on his stomach.
Sherie watched from the ottoman, her own need a sharp, secondary throb. She watched the expert work of Nikki’s mouth, the way her cheeks hollowed, the way she used her tongue. But more than that, she watched Mike’s face. She saw a man utterly unraveling. This was different from him watching her. This was him being watched, being used for Nikki’s—and by extension, Sherie’s—pleasure. The degradation was his now. And the bliss on his face was total.
Nikki picked up the tempo, her head bobbing faster. A thin trail of saliva mixed with the last wisp of smoke. Mike’s breaths became ragged sobs, his back arching off the sofa. His whispered pleas were a continuous, shattered mantra. “Oh god. Oh Christ. Nikki. Please.”
Sherie saw his thighs tense, his entire body coiling like a spring. Nikki felt it too. She pulled off of him with a wet sound, leaving him twitching and exposed to the cool air. She looked up at him, her lipstick completely ruined, her chin glistening.
“Not yet,” she said, her voice hoarse. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, smearing red across her skin. “We’re not done.”
