Chapter 1: Introduction
The first thing Jack felt was the warmth of the sand between his toes.
Groggy and still partially stunned, Jack lifted his head. A dull ache throbbed in the back of his skull. The last thing he remembered was-was
Right. The mysterious antique compass. He had been inspecting it at the flea market, and now he was here-wherever here was.
The second thing Jack noticed was the vast expanse of shimmering blue water, so clear that he could see right through to its white-sand bottom.
It was as if he had been transported to a whole new world, a far cry from the crowded streets and blaring horns of his bustling city.
Jack squinted at the sun sitting low on the horizon, casting a warm, orange glow over the Caribbean coastline. He heard the faint sound of pirate ships anchored nearby, accompanied by the distant cries of seagulls and the salty scent of the sea.
And then it dawned on him-a reality that felt more like a dream: He had traveled through time.
