A promising first date at a restaurant leads to a walk in the park, shared secrets and kisses, and culminates in a night of passion, possessiveness, and abandon.

Chapter 1: The Rule

The warm, golden light of the cozy Italian restaurant spilled out onto the street, beckoning passersby into its inviting embrace. The aroma of garlic and fresh bread mingled with the cool night air, creating an enticing blend that made my stomach rumble. I adjusted my glasses, the reflection of the vintage posters of Rome lining the walls momentarily distracting me from my thoughts. I was early, as usual. Punctuality was a trait I prided myself on, but it could also be a curse, especially when it came to first dates.

I glanced at my watch for what felt like the hundredth time since I’d arrived.

The second hand seemed to be mocking me, its steady tick-tick-tick echoing in my ear like a metronome counting down to some inevitable explosion. I was known for my patience, my steadiness, but there was something about this woman that made me feel like a teenager again, fumbling with a combination lock on my locker.

The door chimed softly as it opened, and I looked up, my eyes scanning the new arrival. There she was, Louise, her long, luscious brown hair cascading over her shoulders like a waterfall. She was radiant, her smile a beacon that lit up the entire room.

Her eyes, a blend of brown and green, sparkled with a warmth that seemed to reach out and embrace me. She wore a simple, cream-colored dress that draped elegantly over her curves, accentuating her wide, child-bearing hips and smaller, perky breasts. A delicate gold necklace adorned her neck, drawing my gaze to the soft expanse of skin it framed. She was a vision, and I found myself standing, though I hadn't realized I'd planned to.

"You're early," she said, her voice warm and playful. It was a statement, not an accusation, and it made me smile.

"So are you," I replied, pulling out her chair for her. She slipped into it gracefully, her dress rustling softly against the wooden seat. The scent of her perfume, a soft, floral note, mingled with the aroma of the food, creating a unique blend that was entirely her.

"I thought we could start with some wine," I said, gesturing to the menu. "The house red is excellent, or they have a very nice Chianti if you prefer something drier."

Louise picked up the menu, her fingers brushing against mine briefly, a small, electric jolt that sent a shiver down my spine.

She looked up at me, her eyes wide and playful. “Chianti, please,” she said, her voice low and sultry. She leaned back in her seat, her posture relaxed, and yet there was a tension in her shoulders, a coiled energy that I found incredibly appealing.

I motioned to the waiter, who appeared at my side almost instantaneously. He was an older man, his hair silver and his eyes sharp. He took our order with a nod and a smile, and then he was gone, disappearing into the crowd as seamlessly as he had arrived.

The candle on our table flickered, casting a soft, dancing light across Louise’s face.

I watched as she traced the edge of her wine glass with her fingertip, her expression thoughtful. I took a sip of my own wine, the Chianti a warm, velvety caress against my tongue.

“You know those dating events can be a minefield,” she said, looking up at me with a small smile. “One wrong step and you can end up in a conversation about someone’s pet ferret or their latest colonoscopy.”

I choked on a laugh, the wine going down the wrong way. “Oh god, no colonoscopy stories on the first date, please.” I coughed, the sound echoing slightly in the intimate setting.

Louise leaned forward, reaching out to pat me gently on the back. The touch was warm and comforting, her fingers slightly calloused, indicating a life of manual labor or perhaps frequent crafting. I inhaled deeply, catching a whiff of the faint scent of coffee and peppermint on her skin, a stark contrast to the floral perfume.

It was a hint of something genuine, a secret glimpse into her everyday life. I felt a strange sense of intimacy with that knowledge, even if it was just a small detail.

"So, what made you decide to go to that event?" I asked, leaning back in my chair, my glass of wine swirling gently in my hand. The tinkling of ice cubes against the glass and the murmur of conversations around us filled the silence between us.

Louise's gaze drifted to the window, where the soft glow of the streetlights painted a warm orange hue on her face. She looked pensive for a moment, her fingers tracing the stem of her wine glass.

Then, her eyes found mine again, and she said, "You know, I've been on a bit of a journey lately. It's this list I made for myself, full of things that make me excited and a little uncomfortable. After my last relationship, I realized I'd been playing it safe for too long, and I needed to rediscover who I am."

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A 'brave babes' bucket list, huh? That's quite a concept."

Louise nodded, her smile confident. "Yeah, it's my way of pushing my boundaries, exploring new things. Going to that dating event alone was on my list. It was uncomfortable, sure, but it was worth it."

"Why's that?" I asked, genuinely curious. I loved the idea of her on a journey of self-discovery, and I wanted to know more. Her eyes sparkled in the candlelight, and she seemed to be choosing her words carefully.

"Because it forced me to put myself out there, to be seen, and to see others without the comfort of a familiar face," she said, her voice soft but steady. "It was a challenge, but there's something exhilarating about stepping into the unknown, isn't there?"

I nodded, understanding her sentiment all too well.

"Absolutely. There's a thrill in the unpredictable, isn't there?" I took a sip of my wine, allowing the smooth liquid to roll over my tongue before swallowing. The deep, rich flavor lingered, a warm contrast to the cool, slightly damp air outside the restaurant. "So, what else is on this bucket list of yours?"

Louise's grin widened, her eyes dancing with excitement. "Oh, it's a mix of things," she began, her hands gesturing animatedly as she spoke. "Some are small, like trying a new recipe every week, or learning to paint with watercolors.
