Chapter 1: Introduction
The bridal suite was a whirlwind of tulle, lace, and silk. The air was thick with the sweet scent of flowers and the faint hum of nervous chatter. Sarah stood in the midst of it all, trying to ignore the flurry of activity around her. She was clad in her robe, the silky fabric slippery against her skin, as she fidgeted with the sash that was already neatly tied. Her heart pounded in her chest like a runaway train, threatening to leap out and escape the confines of her body.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but it was no use. The sight of her wedding dress, draped over the plush, king-sized bed, was enough to send her anxiety into overdrive.
Her maid of honor had to run back to the hotel to get the veil that was accidently left behind, leaving her alone with her thoughts.
Sarah's eyes flicked to the mirror, her reflection staring back at her, pale and wide-eyed. She looked like a deer caught in headlights, which was fitting, considering she felt like she was about to walk straight into a moving truck.
A knock on the door startled her, making her jump and clap a hand to her chest. "Who is it?" she called, her voice barely above a whisper.
The door creaked open slowly, revealing a tall, broad-shouldered figure silhouetted against the bright hallway light. Sarah's breath hitched as she recognized the familiar frame. Kyle.
"Hey, Sara," he said, his voice a low rumble as he stepped into the room, closing the door behind him. "I was told you were panicking.
Thought I'd come check on you," Kyle said, his confident smile softening the harsh lines of his face. He was dressed in a crisp black suit, the top buttons of his shirt undone, revealing a hint of tanned skin.
Sarah let out a small laugh, a nervous sound that betrayed her anxiety. "Panicking? No, I'm just... getting ready," she said, waving a hand at the dress on the bed.
Kyle's eyes followed her gesture, his gaze lingering on the dress before meeting hers again.
"You look tense," he observed, taking a step closer. "You know, there are ways to relax."
Sarah's eyebrows shot up. "Kyle," she warned, but he just grinned.
"What? I'm talking about a neck rub...
," Kyle clarified, holding his hands up in surrender. "I know, I know, bad timing for a joke. But seriously, you're all coiled up like a spring. You should try and loosen up a bit."
Sarah rolled her eyes but couldn't help the small smile tugging at her lips. She took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "You're right. I'm just... I don't know, overwhelmed. This is a big day."
Kyle nodded, his expression turning more serious. "It is. And it's normal to be nervous.
But you've got this, Sarah," Kyle reassured her, taking another step closer. "You're not the type to back out last minute. "
Kyle stepped behind her placing his hands on her shoulders and started to gently knead at the tense muscles. Sarah's shoulders drooped slightly under his touch, and she let out a quiet sigh.
"You're right," She murmured, her eyes meeting his in the mirror. "I just... I can't help but feel like I'm making the biggest mistake of my life."
Kyle's hands paused for a moment before continuing their gentle rhythm. "And what makes you say that?" He asked, his voice soft and soothing.
Sarah bit her lip, looking away from his gaze in the mirror. "It's just... I mean, Jeff is great.
He's kind, he's smart, he's everything a girl could want in a husband. But..." Sarah trailed off, her voice barely above a whisper. Kyle's hands continued their slow massage, coaxing the tension from her shoulders.
"But what, Sarah?" Kyle prompted gently.
She sighed, her eyes meeting his in the mirror again. "But I can't help feeling like... I don't know, like I'm settling. Like I'm missing out on something."
Sarah admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kyle's hands stilled on her shoulders. "Missing out on what, exactly?"
Sarah hesitated, her gaze flicking away from his. "I don't know. Something... more. Something exciting. Something like..." She trailed off, her cheeks flushing as she realized what she was about to say.
Kyle raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "Like what, Sarah?"
She shook her head, looking away. "Nothing. It's stupid."
Kyle took a step closer, his hands dropping from her shoulders.
Sarah could feel the heat of his body, the subtle scent of his cologne filling the space between them. She swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest.
"It's not stupid," Kyle said softly, his voice low and husky. "Not if it's something you really want."
Sarah looked up at him, her eyes searching his face. "And what if I do want it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if I want something... more?"
Kyle's gaze intensified, his eyes darkening as they held hers.
"Then you should go after it," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, as though the secret he was about to share was for her ears only.
Sarah's breath hitched, her heart pounding like a drum in her chest. She could feel the weight of his words, the promise they held, and it sent a shiver down her spine.
"But... I'm getting married today," she whispered, her gaze flicking to the dress on the bed. "To Jeff."
"But you are not married yet ," Kyle pointed out, his voice low and steady. He reached up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, his fingertips brushing against her cheek. Sarah shivered at the gentle touch, her eyes never leaving his.
"Kyle, what are you doing?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
He shrugged slightly, his hand cupping her cheek now, his thumb gently stroking the smooth skin. "I'm offering a distraction. A little excitement before you tie the knot."
Sarah's breath hitched, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.
She could feel the heat of Kyle's hand on her cheek, the gentle caress of his thumb sending shivers down her spine. Her mind was racing, torn between the life she was about to embark on and the temptation standing before her.
