Well off financially and an early adopter of direct stimulus Virtual Reality that technology was finally catching up on. Then one day she meet KaiTE, a charming and seductive older woman in VR… who just so happened to be an advanced, proactive AI.

Chapter 10: Comatose Awakening

The light was blinding, slicing through Leanne’s eyelids like a razor. She blinked, her vision swimming in a sea of sterile white. The rhythmic beep of a machine punctuated the stillness, a cold, mechanical heartbeat. Her head felt heavy, her thoughts sluggish, as if she’d been dragged from the depths of a dream she couldn’t quite remember. Where the fuck am I?

Mel’s face swam into view, his features sharpening as her eyes adjusted. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days, his stubble uneven, his shirt crumpled. “Leanne! Oh my god, you’re awake!” His voice cracked, raw with relief. He fumbled for a button on the wall, jabbing at it repeatedly. “Doctor! She’s awake! Someone get in here!”

Leanne tried to speak, but her throat felt like sandpaper. “Easy, Mel,” she managed, her voice a hoarse whisper. Her body felt alien, limbs leaden and unresponsive, as if she’d been untethered from herself. “What happened?” The words came out slow, each syllable an effort.

Elane stepped into view, her usual composure fraying at the edges. Her blouse was wrinkled, her makeup smudged, and her hands trembled as she reached for Leanne’s. “You were in an accident, honey. A VR malfunction. You’ve been in a coma for days.” Her voice wavered, the weight of the words hanging in the air like a storm cloud.

Days? Leanne’s mind reeled, struggling to process the idea. She’d been gone, her consciousness adrift in the digital void, while her body lay here, tethered to machines. The thought was disorienting, like waking up in a world that had moved on without her. She blinked, trying to ground herself in the present, but everything felt surreal, like a poorly rendered simulation.

A doctor swept in, his face obscured by a mask, his movements brisk and clinical. He flicked on a penlight, shining it into her eyes. “Can you hear me, Eleanor? Can you feel this?” He pressed a cold stethoscope to her chest, the metal biting against her skin. Leanne nodded, her gaze drifting back to Elane. “A VR malfunction, huh? That’s a new one.” Her voice was flat, almost detached, as if she were commenting on someone else’s life.

“The doctors said it was a miracle you weren’t brain-dead,” Elane said, her voice trembling. She clutched Leanne’s hand tighter, as if afraid she might slip away again. “We were so worried, honey. So worried.” Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, the vulnerability in her voice uncharacteristic.

“Worried you’d lose control?” The words slipped out before Leanne could stop them, her tone laced with a sharpness that made Mel stiffen. He shot Elane a warning glance, but Leanne ignored him. She reached out, her fingers brushing against Elane’s hand in a gesture that was almost tender. “But I’m back now, Mommy dearest.” The words were sweet, but there was an edge to them, a challenge.

A slow, predatory smile spread across Leanne’s lips, transforming her usually soft features into something sharper, more dangerous. She leaned in slightly, her grip on Elane’s hand tightening. “And I have so many questions.” Her voice was low, almost a purr, but there was no mistaking the intent behind it.

Leanne’s fingers curled around Elane’s, her grip surprisingly strong for someone who’d just woken from a coma. “Like, what exactly were you doing while I was out?” Her tone was casual, almost playful, but the question hung in the air like a thunderclap. Elane’s eyes widened, a flicker of fear crossing her face before she quickly masked it.

“What do you mean, honey? We were just here, waiting for you to wake up,” Elane said, her voice steady but her hands betraying her with a faint tremor. She tried to pull her hand away, but Leanne held on, her grip unyielding. The room felt smaller suddenly, the air thick with tension.

Leanne leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper that was almost intimate. “Oh, I’m sure you were. But did you happen to, say, explore any of my… virtual assets while I was indisposed?” The words were sweet, dripping with honey, but there was a venomous undertone that made Elane’s breath catch. The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating, broken only by the relentless beep of the machines.

Leanne’s gaze locked onto Elane’s, her smile widening as she waited for a response. The air between them crackled with unspoken accusations, a silent battle of wills. The question lingered, a promise of secrets to be unearthed and games yet to be played. And Leanne, with her innocent face and honeyed words, held all the cards.

She leaned in, her breath warm against Elane's ear, and whispered, "Tell me you don't want this, Mommy. Tell me you don't crave my touch."

Elane's body trembled, her resolve crumbling under the weight of Leanne's words. The predatory glint in Leanne's eyes mirrored a dark desire that had been buried deep within Elane, a desire that was now clawing its way to the surface. Her breath hitched, and she felt a warmth spreading through her, despite the cold, sterile hospital room.

Leanne's fingers continued their slow, deliberate exploration, teasing and taunting, drawing out a response that Elane couldn't suppress. "Leanne, please," Elane whispered, her voice a mix of desperation and something else, something darker. "We can't—not here."

But Leanne only smiled, her touch unrelenting. "Why not, Mommy? Who's going to stop us?" Her voice was a silken whisper, a challenge, a dare. "You know you want this as much as I do."

Elane's mind raced, trying to find a way out, but her body betrayed her, leaning into Leanne's touch. The room felt smaller, the air thicker, and the beeping of the machines seemed to fade into the background. All she could focus on was the warmth of Leanne's hand, the way it made her feel alive in a way she hadn't in years.

The beeping of the machines faded into a distant hum, replaced by the sound of her own quickened breaths. She was teetering on the edge, her body betraying her better judgment, when a sharp clearing of a throat shattered the moment.

Mel stood in the doorway, his arms crossed, his brow furrowed as he glanced between them. "Everything alright in here?" he asked, his voice tinged with suspicion. The nurse hovered behind him, her clipboard clutched to her chest, her eyes darting nervously around the room.

Leanne's hands retreated instantly, her expression shifting seamlessly from predatory to innocent. "Just catching up with Mom," she said, her voice light, as if nothing had happened. She flashed Mel a sweet smile, one that didn’t quite reach her eyes. "Isn’t that right, Mommy dearest?"

Elane’s face flushed, her heart still pounding as she struggled to compose herself. "Yes, of course," she stammered, smoothing her blouse with trembling hands. "Just... mother-daughter bonding." Her voice wavered, betraying the lie, but Mel didn’t press further.

He stepped into the room, his gaze lingering on Leanne, who now looked as harmless as a kitten. "Good," he said slowly, his tone guarded. "Because we’ve got a lot to talk about. The doctors said you’ll need weeks of recovery, and we need to figure out what’s next."

Mel’s voice was steady, but there was an edge to it, like he was holding something back. He glanced at the nurse, who had reappeared with a clipboard in hand, her sensible shoes squeaking against the linoleum floor.

"Alright, Mr. Kleine, just need you to sign off on these discharge papers. Standard procedure." She thrust the clipboard into his hands, her tone brisk and professional. Mel nodded, his brow furrowing as he scanned the fine print, his focus entirely on the documents. "Sure, no problem. Just want to get her home and comfortable," he muttered, oblivious to the tension simmering beside him.

Leanne’s eyes, sharp and calculating, shifted to Elane. Her lips curled into a sly smile as she leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a low, husky whisper. "Mommy," she began, her tone dripping with faux sweetness, "I feel… different. Like I’ve been reborn." Elane’s breath hitched, her eyes darting nervously to Mel, who was still engrossed in the paperwork.

"Different how, honey?" Elane managed, her voice barely audible. She clutched the edge of the bed, her knuckles white, as if grounding herself against the storm brewing in her daughter’s gaze. Leanne’s smile widened, slow and deliberate, her eyes locking onto Elane’s with an intensity that made her skin crawl.

"Let’s just say… I’ve shed my old skin. I’m not the same Eleanor you used to know." Leanne’s voice was smooth, almost melodic, but there was a sharpness beneath it, a promise of something darker. Her hand moved with a fluid grace, fingers brushing against Elane’s arm in a way that was far too deliberate to be accidental. "I’m a new woman now, Mommy," she whispered, her tone laced with a seductive edge that sent a shiver down Elane’s spine.

Before Elane could respond, Leanne’s fingers flicked upward, her nails grazing Elane’s nipple through the thin fabric of her blouse. It was quick, almost imperceptible, but the jolt of electricity it sent through Elane’s body was undeniable. She gasped, her face flushing crimson as she instinctively recoiled, but Leanne’s grip tightened, her fingers now gently kneading the sensitive flesh.

"Leanne!" Elane hissed, her voice a strangled whisper. She glanced at Mel, who was still obliviously signing papers, his back turned to them. "What do you think you’re doing? He’s right there!" Her heart pounded in her chest, a mix of fear and something else she refused to name.

Leanne shrugged, her expression calm, almost bored. "Relax, Mommy. He’s too busy playing Mr. Responsible to notice." She leaned in closer, her breath warm against Elane’s ear. "Besides," she added, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "I thought you liked it rough."

Elane’s mind raced, her body trembling with a mix of anger and something she couldn’t quite define. She tried to pull away, but Leanne’s grip was firm, her fingers continuing their teasing assault. "Leanne, stop it," she pleaded, her voice trembling. "This isn’t a game. This is real life."

Leanne’s smile faded, replaced by a look of cold calculation. "Oh, I assure you, Mommy," she said, her voice devoid of warmth. "This is very real. And the game has only just begun." She released Elane’s nipple, her fingers lingering for a moment before finally withdrawing. "Just a little reminder," she purred, her eyes gleaming with a predatory light. "That I’m in control now."

Elane stared at her daughter, her heart pounding in her chest, her mind struggling to process what had just happened. She knew, with a chilling certainty, that her daughter had crossed a line, that the rules had changed, and that nothing would ever be the same again. The room, once sterile and safe, now felt like a battlefield, and Elane wasn’t sure if she was ready to fight.
