Chapter 1: Introduction
Friday afternoons always brought noise and activity to the high school cafeteria where about two hundred students sat in groups, some happy and others not so much.
Lucy, her brown eyes hidden behind thick-rimmed glasses, marched right through, gripping her lunch in one hand and a physics textbook in the other.
Her long wavy mane swinging against her broad back, she took her usual spot at the table for two, right next to the trash bin.
Barely did she have a chance to glance around before she noticed Erin and Lara at the center of the crowd’s attention; heads turned and lips muttered.
"Lara, isn't that the weird girl we saw yesterday," asked Erin.
"Oh, you mean Lucy? The girl who thinks she’s a genius?" Lara snapped back, tightly pursing her lips and raising one perfectly manicured eyebrow.
"Yeah, that's her. Seriously, what’s with that girl?”
The two friends giggled, and other girls in their vicinity watched Lucy with amused gazes.
" She's just the school nerd who thinks she's better than everyone else," Lara shared as she tilted her head dismissively before sliding a lock of golden hair over her shoulder.
Suddenly, she snapped her fingers, her hazel eyes gleaming with mischief.
"Maybe we should give her a proper welcome to the school you know. Like all the other dorks before her."
Erin clapped her hands together, her eyes reflecting excitement. "That's a great idea, Lara. What should we do?"
Lara grinned and leaned towards Erin, whispered a plan into her ear, and both girls erupted into giggles. The surrounding girls didn't miss the wink Lara gave to Erin, which made them smirk in anticipation.
Meanwhile, Lucy ate her sandwich, unaware of the plot unfolding around her.
