Chapter 1: The Tourist
Prague, the city of a hundred spires. A metropolis, vibrant and alive, pulsing through maze-like cobblestone streets and flickering neon signs, teeming with people that weave through countless conversations and the clink of coins. A city I now called home, and yet, felt so distant from my heart's grasp.
As each cobblestone echoed through my thoughts, my heart ached to be held by a love that didn't hurt.
Lost in my reverie, a voice pierced through my distraction. "Excuse me, do you speak English?"
A hand on my arm—firm, yet oddly comforting. A stranger, his touch a jolt that woke me from my melancholy. "Yes," I replied, startled, as I turned to the voice behind me. A tall American, with short brown hair and kind, though guarded eyes. "Then you can direct me to the Castle District, please."
His gruff directness caught me off guard.
I hesitated for a mere moment. "Walk back the direction you came, take a right at the first light, then a left at the next alley in sight," I told him, gathering my thoughts. "It will lead you to a staircase, take it and keep climbing, you can't miss Charles Bridge—an old, beautiful structure, a key landmark—which will take you right to the Castle District."
With a grateful nod, the stranger started down the path, leaving my lips quirked in a faint smile.
Within minutes, I sensed another presence not far from me.
When I glanced up, I was bewildered by the same brown-haired tourist striding toward me.
"It's not every day you find a lovely lady walking alone in a city like this. Want some company?" His tone confident and bewitching.
Surprised at my own daring, I agreed, "Well, I could show you around some more, I suppose."
The streets flickered with the neon glow as we continued our journey. It wasn't long before I found myself captivated by this mysterious stranger.
Each move he made was striking, calculated, and yet somehow so in sync with my own heartbeat. I cannot deny the palpable chemistry that filled the spaces between us. The more I talked, the more I shared about my life, the more I opened up about my longing for something real, something to cure the quiet and lonely confines of my marriage, a confession born of an unexpected intimacy.
He smirked, tilting his head just enough to showcase the vaguely sinister undertone beneath his charm. Then, he revealed a name, Travis.
