Chapter 1: The Last Spartan Rising

The flag quarters of the UNSC Sparta felt like the private sanctum of a king—if that king had ruled over both battlefields and the endless black of space. Every surface glowed with understated luxury: plush dark olive and chocolate linens, walls dressed in banners and ancient arms, the faintest thrum of life support and the near-silent breath of atmospheric recyclers. The softest golden lights washed over the shield and crossed spears of Old Earth, the words Molon Labe cast in proud, indomitable letters above the Spartan Corps flag. Lyanna Stark’s boots sank into the thick, patterned carpet as she explored the room, head turning warily as hidden panels hissed open and closed, as digital displays flickered alive at her passing, as the vast window revealed a velvet expanse of starlight where Westeros’s blue curve hung silent and small.

She muttered to herself in the old Northern tongue, fingers brushing the rich bedding, a stray grin tugging at her lips. "Your ancestors must have been madmen," she said, "if this is how you make war."

Forge, looming in the middle of the room, had begun the ritual of undressing from his armor. The slow, deliberate hiss and click of mag-locks and hidden clamps was hypnotic. Each piece—the battered gauntlets, the scarred breastplate, the heavy boots—came off in sequence, set aside with almost religious care. Underneath, his skin-tight techsuit clung to the marble-carved expanse of his body, leaving nothing to the imagination except the scars and the brutal truth of decades of violence.

Lyanna watched the transformation with a hunger she didn’t bother to hide. She whistled low, eyes tracking the arc of a silvery scar that cut across his ribs and down toward his hip. “You take longer to get naked than a squire in full plate,” she teased, folding her arms under her full, bare breasts. “Is all this ceremony just for me, or do you always put on such a show?”

Forge, pale and unflinching, pulled the final piece of his suit off his torso, revealing the latticework of scars that climbed his flanks and the ironwork of muscle beneath. His hands stilled at his hips, unsure. “Armor’s the only home I had for a long time. Habit’s hard to break.” His voice was a rough, deep rumble. “But I’d rather be out of it. With you. Are you—” He hesitated, cheeks coloring just faintly, “—coming with me or not?”

Lyanna grinned, wolfish and wild, her hair falling loose about her shoulders as she slipped out of her own armor. She didn’t just undress, she unveiled herself—tunic, pants, and every layer beneath peeled away with almost casual athleticism. She stood naked, back straight, legs braced, letting the dim lights of the quarters play over every muscle and curve. Her body bore the same hard history as his: pale, faded scars at her forearms, across her thigh, the ghost of a deep cut above her right breast. She rolled her shoulders, flexed her arms, then placed her fists on her hips, striking a pose worthy of some ancient goddess of the hunt.

“If you want a show, Forge, I’ll give you one,” she drawled, swaggering toward him. “You look like you just saw a wyvern in your bed. Or maybe you just realized you finally caught the wolf.”

Forge’s jaw worked for a moment, the Spartan at a loss for words—his hands hovering at his sides as he drank her in, eyes roaming every inch. “I’ve never—” He started, then corrected himself. “I’ve never seen anyone like you, Lyanna. Not in two worlds. You’re—” He faltered, caught somewhere between awe and awkward desire.

She cackled, bold and unashamed, the sound echoing off the high ceiling. “You should see your face, giant. I swear, for all your bulk, you blush easier than a maiden at her first harvest dance.”

She walked right up to him, pressing the hard lines of her body against his chest, her hands running down his sides—fingertips dancing along the corded muscles, tracing old wounds with a gentleness that belied her size. “And you’re still all tensed up. That won’t do at all.”

Forge exhaled, a sound that was half sigh, half groan. “You’re sure you’re not intimidated? By all this?” He gestured, almost self-deprecating, at the living monument of his body.

She pushed him back onto the edge of the wide bed, straddling him with a predatory ease, her thighs bracketing his waist. “Intimidated?” she laughed, pinning his wrists above his head, leaning down so her breath tickled his ear. “I’ve wrestled stallions, killed men twice my size, and held my own against knights who’d shit themselves at the sight of you. The only thing that scares me, Forge, is the idea of you hiding from me now that I’ve got you.”

She nipped at his jaw, her voice dropping to a purr. “Now, if you’re quite finished gawking, I plan to make good on all those nights in the field when you promised me warmth and never delivered.” Her hands trailed down his chest, over his stomach, her hips grinding down in a way that sent a shudder through him. “So get used to the view, Spartan. It’s all yours—if you’re brave enough.”

Forge, finally recovering, caught her hips and drew her flush against him, his hands nearly spanning her waist. “I’ve gone toe-to-toe with Covenant warlords, Lyanna. I think I can handle you.”

She arched her brow, mouth curving into a wicked grin. “Big words from a big man. I hope you’re as good with them as you are with your hands.”

She kissed him then, hot and deep, her nails raking lightly over the scars at his shoulders as she pressed him back into the plush sheets, her laughter a promise of everything to come in the warm shadows of the Sparta’s beating heart.
