Chapter 1: Opening Image
The hustle and bustle of the spaceport was a familiar symphony to Agent Kay. The hum of neon signs, the beep of loading droids, and the chatter of travelers from every corner of the galaxy filled her ears as she stepped off the transport platform. She adjusted her worn leather jacket and straightened her cropped, cybernetic-enhanced hair, which had a tendency to get mussed in zero-g.
"You know, the first time I visited this spaceport, I was still in diapers," she remarked to her partner, Agent Reese, as they strode through the crowded terminal.
Reese, a few paces behind, chuckled and shook his head. "You must've been one tough kid, Kay. This place is a nightmare."
Kay smirked, "Nah, just had a strict mom. She'd beat the living daylights out of any alien that looked at me funny."
Reese laughed, his blue eyes crinkling at the corners. "Yeah, well, I'm glad your mom isn't here now. I'd hate to see what she'd do to our wanted smuggler, Kael."
Kay scoffed, "Kael? Please.
Kael's more than just a smuggler. He's a con artist, a thief, and from what I've heard, he's got a few unsavory connections to boot," Kay replied, her voice tinged with a touch of caution.
Reese nodded, his gaze scanning the crowd as they walked. Despite the bustle, he noticed the subtle glances thrown their way—likely picking up on their insignias. The Intergalactic Enforcement Agency wasn't exactly the most beloved organization in these parts, but it did command a certain level of respect. Or at least, fear.
