it is 1807 in the German mountain town of Berkenstein. These three gay young men are scholars researching old ways to survive the winter, in an isolated room in a near-empty building in a small mountain village. They already know each other from working together, but have never done anything socially together. Paul has been in a relationship, but it's over.
