Chapter 3: The Meeting

George and Adele got out of the taxi and stood outside the grand entrance of the hotel where Ruby's wedding reception was being held.

Adele wore a stunning red dress that hugged her gentle curves perfectly, and George looked dapper in his sharp navy suit. Together, they walked up the winding staircase leading to the ballroom where the celebration was to take place.

Adele caught a glimpse of herself in one of the mirrored walls lining the hallway and couldn't help but admire her reflection. Her long, flowing blonde hair cascaded down her back, framing her face beautifully. Her bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement as she adjusted the straps of her dress, ensuring everything was perfect.

Adele felt confident and sensual in her attire, and she couldn't wait to enter the party and begin mingling with the guests.

George took her hand in his, and led her through the grand doors of the hotel ballroom. As they strolled past the elegantly decorated tables, people turned their heads to catch a glimpse of the radiant couple. Adele's eyes scanned the crowd, looking for signs of anyone she knew.

Adele spotted her ex, Andy, standing near the bar, sipping on a glass of champagne. She noticed a flash of recognition across his face as he saw her.

Andy's jaw dropped, and his eyes widened as he processed the sight of her resplendent form. His expression betrayed the tumultuous emotions swirling within him—a potent mix of surprise, resentment, and lingering infatuation. Adele smiled smugly, relishing the satisfaction derived from knowing she still had the power to captivate and provoke such intense reactions from those who once crossed paths with her.

Andy was tall and slim, with dark curly hair and nervous green eyes, he lacked the magnetism and confidence that George possessed. He wore a stylish charcoal gray suit that seemed a little baggy on his slim frame.

"That's him, at the bar." Adele informed George, jerking her head in Andy's direction.

"Well, so much for avoiding him, he's at the bar and we need a drink." George laughed.

As they approached the bar, Andy froze, his gaze fixed on Adele. His cheeks flushed, and his Adam's apple bobbed nervously.

"Adele," Andy stammered. "Nice to see you here."

Adele arched an eyebrow, her voice laden with sarcasm. "Andy, it's been a while. How have you been?"

"I've been okay," Andy muttered, casting an envious glance at George.

"And who do we have here?" Andy questioned, feigning friendliness despite the simmering jealousy brewing within him. He knew this was the man she had left him for.

George offered his hand, his grip firm and assertive. "George. Pleasure to meet you."

Andy hesitated before reluctantly grasping George's hand. "Pleasure."

"Your sister's ceremony was beautiful." George offered but Andy ignored him.

"I'm sorry, I should introduce you to my girlfriend." Andy gestured toward his companion, who stood, clutching her purse to her chest, just behind him.

She was short in her flat pumps, not even quite five feet with sleek black hair falling above her shoulders. Her brown eyes sparkled with an almost ethereal glow. Her caramel skin tone hinted at South Asian heritage. She wore a strapless emerald cocktail dress that accentuated her hourglass figure and gave little support to her plump bell shaped breasts.

"This is Anika," Andy introduced her, sounding understandibly possessive. "My girlfriend."

Anika's gaze swept over Adele, assessing her with a calculating intensity.

Adele met her stare, appraising her in return with a calm self-assurance. The two women exchanged fleeting smiles, each silently acknowledging the tension simmering between them.

"It's nice to meet you, Anika." Adele extended her hand graciously and they shook hands lightly.

As they did Adele caught Anika sneak a glance at George. It was a brief instant, but Adele caught wind of the interest brewing underneath the surface as Anika's full lips parted tellingly.

George simply ordered two glasses of champagne for himself and Adele.

"Would you like anything, Andy?" Adele asked politely.

"No thanks, I'm fine." Andy replied curtly.

Adele turned to Anika. "What about you, honey?"

Anika blushed slightly, her eyes flitting between Adele and George.

"I wouldn't mind a glass of wine, actually. Thank you."

Adele nodded, ordering a glass of merlot for Anika.

"So, Anika," Adele chimed, trying to strike up a conversation. "How long have you two been dating?"

Anika's eyes shifted to Andy, seeking his approval before answering. "Uh, we've been together for a few months now."

"Andy is a very nice guy," Adele noted, giving Andy a friendly nod.

"Mhmm" Anika agreed, her eyes drifting to George again. "Very nice." She repeated Adele's words absent mindedly while surveying George's heavy build.

"We should go mingle." Adele suggested, linking arms with George and giving Anika a knowing wink. "Enjoy your glass of wine, sweetie."

Anika nodded shyly, her thoughts clearly elsewhere. She watched George carefully, seemingly entranced by his muscular physique and magnetic presence.

"See you two later," Adele said to Andy and Anika.

"Great," replied Anika eagerly. "I'll catch up with you soon."

Andy snorted and dismissed them with a wave of his hand.

As Adele and George made their way through the crowded room, they admired the exquisite decor and elegant ambiance of the event. The DJ played enchanting melodies as the guests danced and conversed with one another. Adele and George found a quiet corner near the dance floor, where they could sit and observe the celebration.

"Looks like Andy hasn't moved on from our breakup," Adele mused, leaning her head on George's shoulder. "But that new girlfriend of his seems cute."

George gazed into Adele's sparkling blue eyes and gently stroked her soft blonde hair. "Are you jealous?" he teased her.

Adele giggled, her laughter echoing through the dimly lit hall. "No, I'm just saying that she seems sweet and she definitely took a good look at you." Adele replied, her voice dropping to a whisper. "And if we're going to stay here for the rest of the night, you might enjoy yourself."

George chuckled, his eyes glinting mischievously. "And you would approve of that?"

Adele's heart raced at the mere suggestion of George entertaining Anika. The concept of George taking another one of Andy's girlfriends was intoxicating.

In fact, it wasn't just intoxicating; it was downright delicious. It was like a forbidden fruit, something so dirty and immoral that only heightened the allure. It was exactly what Adele wanted.

"Oh, here comes Ruby." Adele observed, segwaying the conversation with a grin.

The Best Man announced the newlyweds as they entered the ball room.

Guests cheered enthusiastically as Ruby and her husband, David, beamed with joy and gratitude. Their happiness permeated the air, creating a palpable aura of love and warmth that enveloped everyone present.

Ruby spotted Adele sitting with George and rushed over to greet them. She wore a delicate lace gown that fell gracefully to the ground, showcasing her slender figure. Her chocolate brown hair was styled in loose curls, resting delicately on her shoulders.

"Adele!" Ruby exclaimed effusively. "I can't believe you made it!"

"Of course I came," Adele replied affectionately. "You're one of my best friends ever."

"I owe you big time." Ruby grinned widely, her enthusiasm contagious. "I can't thank you enough for making it here, I'm sorry we've not talked much lately." A tear formed in Ruby's eye.

"Hey, you know me," Adele chuckled playfully. "I'd never miss your special day."

George reached out to shake David's hand, congratulating him on marrying Ruby.

"And this must be George?" Ruby's eyes flicked towards George. A look of understanding in her gaze.

"Yes!" Confirmed Adele proudly.

"He's hot." Ruby whispered so that neither George nor David could hear.

Adele and Ruby shared a knowing smile, their connection solidified by years of friendship and shared experiences.

"Let's dance!" Ruby insisted excitedly, motioning towards the dance floor.

Eager to join her and David in their celebration, Adele and George accepted the invitation. George grabbed Adele's hand, pulling her close as they followed Ruby onto the dance floor. The rhythmic beats of the music filled the air, creating an electric atmosphere that pulsed through the crowd.
