Chapter 1: Introduction

My name is Alice, I have tan skin, with long brown hair, and black eyes, as I am here at my hotel in the bar that is on the bottom floor, I am wearing a crop top shirt with a pair of jeans, and as such I am here in town or the city whatever you wish to call this place for a conference.

As I sat down at the bar, the bartender came over to me, and asked me, "What would you like miss?"

I looked up at him, smiled, and said, "Gin & Tonic please." He nodded with a smile and began mixing my drink. As I sipped my cocktail, the taste of the juniper berries and quinine danced on my tongue, the citrus twist adding a refreshing zest as I scanned the space around me. The dim light from the chandelier created an aura of mystery and elegance, and the quiet whispers of conversations added to the ambiance.

I noticed a man sitting across the bar - he had dark hair, piercing blue eyes, and a strong presence. As I looked, he has yet to see me, at least yet, and so far, he has not yet noticed me looking at him.

I went back drinking my cocktail and I then looked up and he saw me, I smiled back at him, and I then asked the bartender, "Could you have my bill sent over to that table I am going over there?"

I pointed to where he was sitting, the bartender nodded and I got up and walked over to him. I sat down and he turned to look at me, and he stood up, smiled, and said, "Hello, what's your name?" Shaking his hand, I said, "My name is Alice. What brings you here for tonight?" He looked at me with those piercing blue eyes of his, and he said, "Well, I am just visiting here for work, but what about you?"

"Same I have a work conference that I have to go to, anyways I thought about coming over and talking with you, if that is ok." I said to him.

He smiled and said, "Sure thing Alice, always nice to have company, even though I am done for today which is why I am here having a drink."

"Ah, well it's always good to unwind after work anyways, so where are you from?" I asked him.

He paused for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully. "I'm from New York City, actually. But I travel all over for work. And you? Where do you call home?"

His question caught me off guard for a moment. I hesitated, not wanting to reveal too much about myself right away. "Well, I've moved around quite a bit. I'm originally from California, but I've lived in various places since then. Right now, I'm based in Chicago."

"Chicago, huh?" he asked.

I smiled and said, "Yes, it is where my work takes me to, I would rather live back in California but hey."

"So, you like the Golden State a lot?" He asked me.

I smirked and said, "Well yes, well to be honest the west coast, but anyways what about yourself?"

He laughed and answered, "Well I go all over all of the time for business trips, so it is hard to really say where I like the most, besides yes I live in New York, but at the same time I am gone so much it's like I have no home."

I smiled and said, "I understand how that feels, I been uproot so many times it feels as if I have nowhere to call home."

"Not to be nosey or anything, but are you married?" He asked me which took me back a bit.

I answered him, "Well no, hell I don't even have a boyfriend."

I then looked at him and said, "And what about you? Are you married?"

He chuckled lightly. "No, actually, I'm single right now. Been kind of busy with work lately, though." He paused for a moment, his gaze locking onto mine. "You know, Alice, you're pretty attractive. I wouldn't mind getting to know you better."

My heart raced wildly at his boldness. "Really?" I managed to utter through my dry throat.

He smiled as he finished his drink and said, "Yes, why not we are both single and we both need someone to talk with and more."

I asked, "So which room do you want to go to mine or yours?"

"Well, let's go to yours," he replied with a mischievous grin.

We both rose from our seats, his eyes locked onto mine as we made our way towards the elevators. The tension between us grew palpable with every step closer to my room. As we entered the elevator, the walls seemed to close in around us, creating a sense of intimacy. We didn't speak, only exchanged glances full of desire and anticipation.

When the elevator doors opened, we practically sprinted down the hallway to my room.
