Chapter 2: Set Up
The deserted warehouse in Gotham City loomed before them like a monolith of decay, its once-great walls now marred by time and neglect. The air was thick with dust and the faint scent of oil, a testament to the machinery that once hummed within its belly. The moon cast a silver glow through the broken windows, illuminating the detritus of a bygone era: rusted pipes, crumbling masonry, and graffiti that seemed to whisper secrets in the shadows.
Supergirl glided down from the night sky, her cape billowing out behind her like a comet's tail. She landed lightly on the wet concrete, her boots barely making a sound. Batgirl appeared from the darkness, her body moving fluidly as she vaulted over a pile of rubble.
“You think this is a good idea, Kara?” Batgirl asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She was crouched low, her eyes scanning the labyrinth of metal and shadow.
Supergirl, or Kara Zor-El as she was known to those closest to her, shook her head.
"No, but we don't have a choice. If Catwoman is here, we need to find her before she can cause any more trouble."
Batgirl, known to the world as Barbara Gordon, nodded in agreement. "I still don't understand why she wants this whip so badly. It's not like her to go after something so... personal."
Kara's gaze swept over the warehouse, her blue eyes reflecting the moonlight like twin beacons. "Maybe it's not just about the whip. Maybe there's something else going on that we don't know about."
Barbara sighed, her breath misting in the cool air.
"Well, let's find out, then. But we need to be careful. Catwoman's lair is a deathtrap. She won't make this easy."
Kara nodded, her jaw set in determination. "Don't worry, Babs. I've got your back."
They moved cautiously, their boots crunching softly on the debris-strewn floor. The warehouse was a maze of shadows, each one hiding a potential threat. They stuck to the edges, using the moonlight filtering through the windows as their guide.
Barbara's eyes flicked to a tripwire, barely visible against the grimy wall.
She nudged Kara, who nodded acknowledgment before carefully stepping over it. They continued, their movements synchronized, a dance of trust and skill honed from countless nights spent fighting side by side.
As they ventured deeper into the warehouse, the air grew heavier, laden with the scent of old oil and something else—a hint of jasmine, cloying and sweet. Kara's senses tingled, her super hearing picking up the distant hum of machinery.
"Do you hear that?" Kara whispered, her voice barely audible.
Barbara nodded, her green eyes narrowing. "Yeah. Sounds like...
a generator or something."
Kara's brows furrowed, her super-hearing honing in on the sound. "It's coming from over there." She pointed towards a corner of the warehouse, shrouded in darkness.
They moved stealthily, their footsteps light and cautious. As they approached, the hum grew louder, the scent of jasmine more pronounced. Kara's eyes widened as she spotted a small, hidden door, camouflaged by the shadows.
Barbara nodded, her hand reaching for the door handle. "Be ready," she whispered.
Kara took a deep breath, her muscles tensing.
She nodded at Barbara, who gave her a small smile before pulling open the door. It creaked slightly, revealing a narrow staircase leading down into darkness. The hum of machinery was more pronounced now, a steady drone that seemed to resonate through the very walls.
Barbara descended first, her steps careful and precise. Kara followed closely behind, her eyes scanning the dimly lit corridor that stretched out before them. The air was thick with dust and the scent of jasmine, growing stronger with each step they took.
At the bottom of the stairs, they found themselves in a large, cavernous room.
The walls were lined with ancient artifacts and stacks of gold bars, their surfaces gleaming dully in the dim light. In the center of the room, a massive generator hummed, its mechanisms churning and clanking rhythmically. It was connected to a complex array of wires and cables that snaked across the floor and up the walls, leading to a large, ornate mirror at the far end of the room.
Kara's eyes widened as she took in the sight. "What is all this?" she whispered, her voice echoing in the vast space.
Barbara squinted at the mirror, her brows furrowed in concentration.
"I don't know, but it looks like whatever it is, it's important to her."
Kara nodded, her gaze sweeping over the room. "And look at all this gold. It's like she's been stockpiling wealth down here."
Barbara's eyes narrowed, her voice dropping to a low whisper. "Which means she's planning something big. Something that requires resources."
Kara's gaze snapped back to the mirror, her blue eyes reflecting the dim light. "You think that's what she's after? The mirror?"
Barbara shrugged, her gaze still fixed on the ornate piece.
"Could be. But why go through all this trouble? Why not just take the gold and disappear?"
Kara bit her lip, her mind racing. "Maybe the mirror is the real prize. Maybe it's... I don't know, connected to the whip?"
Barbara's eyes widened slightly, and she nodded. "That could make sense. If the whip is an ancient artifact, maybe the mirror is too. Maybe they're linked somehow."
Before they could delve deeper into the mystery, a sudden noise echoed through the room. It was a soft, rhythmic clicking, like the sound of a cat's claws tapping against stone.
The sound seemed to echo from all directions, bouncing off the ancient artifacts and piles of gold, disorienting Kara and Barbara. They exchanged a glance, their instincts screaming at them to move.
Kara's super hearing picked up on the sound first, pinpointing its location. She nodded towards a nearby pile of crates, pressing her finger to her lips in a silent command to Barbara. They moved swiftly, their bodies low to the ground, their weapons ready.
As they approached the crates, the clicking sound grew louder, more insistent. Kara's heart pounded in her chest, her breaths coming in short, sharp gasps.
The clicking sound was now unmistakably the sound of someone—or something—moving with deliberate, measured steps. She signaled to Barbara, who nodded, her eyes locked onto the crates.
They split up, Kara moving to the left and Barbara to the right. They inched closer, their bodies pressed against the cold stone walls. The clicking sound grew louder, the rhythm faster. Kara's muscles tensed, her fingers tightening around her heat vision. She could feel the heat building in her eyes, ready to unleash if needed.
The crates suddenly exploded outwards, sending wooden shards flying in all directions.
From the pile emerged Catwoman, her whip coiled around her wrist, a wicked grin spread across her face.
"Well, well, well," she purred, her green eyes flicking between Kara and Barbara. "Look what the cat dragged in."
Kara's eyes narrowed as she stepped forward, her cape billowing dramatically. "We're not here to play games, Catwoman. Give us the whip and nobody gets hurt."
Catwoman laughed, a sound like tinkling glass. "Oh, honey, you're always so serious.
It's almost cute," Catwoman replied, her gaze flicking to Barbara. "You, I expected. But Supergirl? In Gotham? How quaint."
Kara's eyes flashed, her voice dropping to a low growl. "Quaint? I don't have time for your games, Catwoman. Give us the whip, or—"
"Or what?" Catwoman interrupted, her whip slithering from her wrist, coiling around her arm like a living thing. "You'll what? Hit me with your laser eyes?
Oh, please. You're both so predictable." Catwoman's whip cracked through the air, the sound echoing through the room as she twirled it around her wrist. "You two are here to stop me? How precious. I do so love a challenge."
Barbara stepped forward, her voice steady and confident. "We're not here to play your little games, Catwoman. Hand over the whip and the mirror, and we'll let you walk away."
Catwoman's eyes widened in mock surprise. "The mirror? Oh, you're much quicker than I gave you credit for, Batgirl.
Yes, the mirror is part of the reason I'm here. It's a... unique artifact. With its help, I can reshape Gotham in my image." Catwoman's eyes gleamed with a mad intensity that sent a shiver down Kara's spine.
Barbara's eyes narrowed, her voice dropping to a low growl. "You're playing with fire, Catwoman. You know what that mirror can do. It's too dangerous to be left in the hands of someone like you."
Catwoman's laughter echoed through the room, a chilling sound that grated on Kara's nerves. "Someone like me?
Oh, darling, you have no idea." Catwoman's voice was a low purr, her whip snaking back and forth in her hand. "You think you can stop me? You think you can stop destiny?"
Kara's brows furrowed, her blue eyes flicking to the mirror at the far end of the room. "We can't let you use that mirror, Catwoman. It's too dangerous."
Barbara stepped forward, her voice steady and firm. "We're not here to fight you, Catwoman. We just want the whip and the mirror.
Leave Gotham and we won't follow," Barbara offered, her stance wide and ready, her baton held loosely in her hand.
Catwoman's smile widened, revealing a flash of white teeth against her dark hair. "Oh, Babs. Always the diplomat. But you see, that's the problem with you two. You always want to play by the rules. But life, sweetheart, isn't fair, and it certainly isn't a game." She twirled the whip around her wrist, the tip cracking softly. "And neither am I."
Kara stepped forward, her cape billowing dramatically behind her.
Catwoman's smile turned predatory, her eyes locked onto Kara with intense focus. "And who are you to decide what's dangerous, little girl?" she purred, her voice a low growl.
Barbara moved to intercept, but Catwoman's whip lashed out, wrapping around Barbara's wrist and yanking her off balance. She crashed into a nearby crate, sending shards of wood scattering across the floor.
"Barbara!" Kara shouted, her eyes blazing with super-heated fury.
She lunged at Catwoman, her super speed kicking in as she crossed the distance between them in an instant. But Catwoman was ready, her reflexes honed from years of practice. She ducked just in time, Kara's fist missing her by inches.
Catwoman smirked, her whip cracking through the air as she lashed out at Kara. Kara moved with superhuman agility, dodging the whip's tip as it grazed her cheek, leaving a thin red line.
"You fucking bitch!" Kara hissed, her voice laced with anger.
She was done playing games. She was done with Catwoman's taunts and her whip. She was done with the dance, the chase, the fucking foreplay. She wanted this to be over, and she wanted it to end with Catwoman on her knees.
Kara's fists clenched, her knuckles cracking as her powers surged through her veins. She could feel the heat, the raw power coiling inside her, ready to be unleashed. She let out a low growl, a warning, a promise. She was done playing. She was done with the games.
Done with the foreplay. She wanted this to end, and she wanted it to end with Catwoman on her knees.
Kara’s heat vision blazed to life, the beams slicing through the darkness, searing the walls with white-hot intensity. Catwoman backpedaled, her whip snapping out to deflect the attack. The air filled with the scent of ozone and singed fur as Catwoman’s costume smoldered from the close call.
“You’re playing with fire, Supergirl,” Catwoman snarled, her voice laced with a combination of anger and exhilaration.
Her whip cracked through the air, the tip coiling around Kara’s ankle as she attempted to lunge again. “You think you can take me like that?”
Kara yanked her leg free, her super speed allowing her to move faster than the whip could react. “I’m done playing, Catwoman,” she growled, her eyes blazing with pure, unadulterated fury. “It’s time for you to get what’s coming to you.”
Catwoman’s smirk never wavered. “Big words from a little girl.” She snapped her whip again, this time aiming for Kara’s face.
The tip caught Kara's lip, drawing a thin line of blood. Kara hissed in pain, her eyes narrowing in anger. She reached out, her hand wrapping around Catwoman's wrist with a speed that left the thief barely any time to react. She yanked her forward, their bodies pressing together just as Kara's other hand gripped Catwoman's hair, tugging her head back.
"Fuck you, cat," Kara spat, her voice a low, menacing growl. She could feel the heat of Catwoman's body through her costume, the soft curves pressing against her own.
Kara's grip on her hair tightened, a sharp tug that made Catwoman gasp. Kara could see the surprise in her eyes, the realization that this was no longer a playful sparring match. This was personal.
"You like playing games, don't you, cat?" Kara hissed, her voice dripping with contempt. "Well, I'm done playing."
Catwoman's breath hitched, a soft gasp that Kara could feel against her lips. She was close, so close that Kara could see the flecks of green in her eyes, the way her pupils dilated with a mix of fear and excitement.
Kara could smell her too, the scent of jasmine and sweat, an intoxicating combination that made her head spin. She could feel Catwoman's heartbeat, rapid and erratic, against her own chest.
"You think you can handle me, Kara?" Catwoman whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes flicked to Kara's lips, a slow, hungry gaze that sent a shiver down Kara's spine.
Kara tightened her grip on Catwoman's hair, her other hand still wrapped around her wrist.
Their bodies were pressed together, the heat of their flesh palpable through their costumes. Kara could feel the warmth radiating from Catwoman, the soft swell of her breasts against her own. She could smell her, the scent of jasmine and sweat and something darker, something primal.
Catwoman's breath hitched, her eyes locked onto Kara's, a mix of fear and desire swirling in their depths. "What are you going to do, Kara?" she whispered, her voice a low purr.
Kara felt her heart pounding in her chest, her breath ragged. She was so close to Catwoman, closer than she had ever been before. She could see the flicker of anticipation in Catwoman's eyes, the curl of her lips as she spoke.
Kara's hand tightened in Catwoman's hair, pulling her head back further, exposing the long line of her neck. She leaned in, her lips brushing against Catwoman's ear. "You want to know what I'm going to do, cat?" she growled, her voice low and dangerous.
Catwoman's breath hitched, a soft moan escaping her lips.
