Chapter 13: Career Termination

The heavy sigh of the locking mechanism echoed in the concrete chamber, final as a tomb seal. Izzy’s breath hitched, the sound ugly and raw in the sterile silence. The beam of her flashlight, now shaking wildly, painted jerking arcs across Julian’s smirk and Evelyn’s serene, anticipatory smile.

Instinct, trained and desperate, took over. Izzy dropped into a crouch, her hand scrabbling for the only weapon she had. Her fingers closed around the cold, rough steel of the crowbar. She surged upright, brandishing it before her in a pathetic, two-handed grip, the tip wavering between the two figures.

“People…will look for me…someone knows where I am,” Diaz shuddered out, a failed attempt at sounding threatening. The words tasted like blood and lies.

Both Julian and Evelyn laughed loudly, the sound bouncing off the hard surfaces, clattering around her.

“Oh, please, Isabelle.” Evelyn’s voice was mocking syrup. “No one knows where you are. And nor do they care.” She took a step closer, her heels clicking precisely on the damp concrete. “Besides, I just got off the phone with the Chief about your little adventure over here before you came. He seemed quite upset. Said we could take care of you anyway we see fit.”

Julian continued, the hunger in his voice palpable as he loosened his silk tie. “You’re a rogue element, Detective. An embarrassment.A liability. You’ve been officially…disavowed.”

Izzy couldn’t believe it. Her own Chief fed her to these wolves like she was nothing. Sure, she was a little headstrong and reckless, but nothing she ever did was worth this. Nothing was worth her life! The crowbar felt like lead in her hands.

As if tasting her fear and disbelief, Evelyn licked her lips and smiled. “Don’t worry. We aren’t going to kill you…at least, not for a long while yet.” She said, turning away from her to glide a hand over the cold steel of the restraint table.

Julian picked up the narrative, walking closer to Diaz, his blue eyes gleaming in the low light. “A guest like you doesn’t come around often.A cop. A seeker of truth.” He was within striking distance now. Izzy’s arms trembled, the crowbar’s aim dipping toward the floor. “A guest such as you should be…savored.”

The last word was a whisper. It was the distraction Evelyn needed. She moved not with a rush, but with an efficient, graceful pivot, her hand closing over Izzy’s wrist with surprising, surgeon’s strength. A precise thumb dug into a nerve cluster. Izzy gasped, her fingers springing open. The crowbar clattered to the floor, the sound deafening.

Julian was on her before the echo died. His fist, sheathed in a brass-knuckled ring she hadn’t seen, drove into her solar plexus. All the air left her body in a silent, agonized whoosh. She folded, staggering back against the edge of the heavy table. He grabbed a fistful of her hair, yanking her head up to meet his gaze.

“Rule number two,” he murmured, his breath smelling of mint and expensive cigars. “No one who would be missed.” He brought his other hand around, the back of it aimed at her face. “You broke that rule the moment you started digging.”

The backhand wasn’t just a slap. It was a calculated, piston-driven blow. Her head snapped to the side, a galaxy of white pain exploding behind her eyes. The metallic tang of blood filled her mouth, a copper river flowing over her tongue from a split lip. She sprawled across the table, her vision swimming.

Evelyn was there, a phantom in green silk. She placed a hand on Izzy’s sternum, holding her down with casual, unassailable pressure. In her other hand, a scalpel appeared, plucked from the neat tray. It caught the light, a tiny, cruel star.

“Your suspension,” Evelyn cooed, her voice a horrific parody of bedside compassion, “just became permanent, darling.”

The blade touched Izzy’s thigh, just above the knee, through the fabric of her sweats. It was cold. Then came the burning line of its passage as Evelyn dragged it down, slowly, savoring the tear of the material and the finer tear of skin beneath. Izzy screamed, the sound ragged and torn from her throat, echoing off the walls meant to contain such sounds.

Julian unbuckled his belt with terrifying leisure, the heavy clink of the buckle a death knell. He let the strap slither free. His erection strained against the fine wool of his slacks, a blatant, obscene truth. This was their communion. This was their art.

“Such spirit,” Julian mused, running the leather through his hands. He looked to Evelyn, a silent conversation passing between them. “She’s more than the others, isn’t she, Mistress?”

Evelyn nodded, wiping the scalpel’s tip on a clean white cloth from the tray. “So much more. A fighter. It will make the surrender so much sweeter.” She leaned down, her lips close to Izzy’s ear as Izzy panted and sobbed, trying to curl away from the fire in her leg. “You wanted to see our world, Detective. Now you’re its newest resident.”

Julian’s shadow fell over her. He didn’t use the belt. Instead, he placed his hands on her, his touch almost clinical as he flipped her onto her stomach, her cheek pressed into the cold, sticky steel. One large hand pinned her shoulders. The other worked at the waistband of her sweats and underwear, yanking them down to her thighs with a single, brutal jerk.

The humiliation was a ice bath. The vulnerability, absolute. She kicked, a weak, pathetic thrashing.

“Shhh,” Evelyn soothed, stroking her hair now, the gesture obscene. “The more you fight, the more he enjoys it. And the more he enjoys it… the longer I get to play.” She held up the scalpel again, her dark eyes bright. “We have weeks, Isabelle.Maybe months. We like to savor, but we also like to… repair. I am, after all, a very skilled surgeon.”

Julian leaned over her, his body a furnace of intent. Izzy squeezed her eyes shut, trying to disappear into the dark behind her lids. She felt him, the thick, blunt pressure of him against her. This was it. This was the end of everything she was.

But the violation she expected didn’t come. Not yet.

Instead, she felt his mouth near her ear, his voice a low, gritty vibration that seeped into her very bones. “Welcome to the Doom Room, Detective Diaz,” he whispered, the title a vile mockery. “Let’s see how deep your dedication to the truth really goes.”

He stood up. The pressure retreated. She heard his footsteps move away, heard the soft rustle of Evelyn’s dress as she joined him.

“Restrain her,” Evelyn said, her voice all business now. “The saline drip first. We need to keep her hydrated. Then we’ll see about cleaning and suturing that little scratch. Can’t have our new guest getting an infection.”

Izzy lay there, half-naked, bleeding, utterly broken on the altar of their design. The fight had left her, drained out with the blood from her thigh and the last of her hope. The cold of the table leached into her bones. The only sounds were their efficient movements, the clink of instruments, and the soft, shared hum of a couple preparing for a long-awaited project.

The darkness behind her eyelids was no longer an escape. It was her new world. And in it, she heard the soft, definitive click of leather cuffs locking around her wrists and ankles.

The cuffs were cool and supple, tightening with a gentle, inescapable firmness that spoke of quality and frequent use. Evelyn’s hands, efficient and dispassionate, swabbed the incision on Izzy’s thigh with stinging antiseptic. The sharp, clean smell cut through the base odors of the room, a bizarre parody of medical care.

“Good tensile strength in the dermis,” Evelyn noted clinically, her fingers probing the edges of the cut. “Clean edges. Minimal collateral damage.” She began to suture with a swift, practiced rhythm, the needle piercing and pulling in a tugging sensation that was worse than the initial cut. Each pull was a reminder of her total helplessness, of her body being treated as mere material.

Julian watched, his arousal still evident, a silent spectator to his wife’s work. He dragged a fingertip through the beaded sweat on the small of Izzy’s back. She flinched, a full-body shudder she couldn’t suppress.

“You see how she trembles, Mistress?” he murmured, his voice thick. “It’s not just fear. It’s awareness. The animal knows it’s been claimed.”

Evelyn tied off the last suture and snipped the thread. “All done. Now for hydration. We can’t have our guest deteriorating prematurely.” She moved to a wheeled stand, assembling an IV line with the casual ease of someone making coffee.

The needle slid into the vein on the back of Izzy’s restrained hand with a sharp, intimate sting. The cold saline drip spread a chill up her arm. This mundane medicalism was its own torture, a systematic dismantling of her humanity under a guise of preservation. They weren’t just harming her; they were curating her.

Julian’s patience evaporated once the clinical procedure was complete. The next couple of hours were a blur of random pain and discomfort. A slap that rang in her ears, followed by the cruel, pinpoint pressure of a thumb grinding into the fresh sutures on her thigh. The sudden, shocking heat of the industrial broiler roaring to life in the corner, its orange glow painting the room in hellish tones, followed by Julian holding a polished steel rod close enough for her to feel the radiant heat crisp the hairs on her arm.

He would whisper questions about her investigation, his breath hot on her neck, while Evelyn traced patterns on her skin with the handle of a whip. They switched roles seamlessly, Julian pinning her down as Evelyn applied a series of small, searing electrical contacts to the soles of her feet, the pain sharp and bright, leaving her gasping. Then Evelyn would cradle Izzy’s head, forcing her to sip water, as Julian used a thin, flexible cane to paint lines of fire across her shoulders.

Diaz could tell they were just playing with her like a child does a brand new toy. Testing reactions. Gauging thresholds. Mapping her pain as if charting unknown territory. The randomness was the point—it prevented adaptation, kept her drowning in a storm of sensation where time lost all meaning.

In a lucid pocket between a series of sharp, rhythmic strikes and the cold splash of water thrown in her face, she found a quiet, deep place inside the wreckage. The humiliation, the terror, the agony—they were experiences. They were data. They were not her. She watched them from this new, cold distance. She decided then that they weren’t going to break her. She would survive through this just long enough to figure out a way out of here. The resolve was a silent, hard thing, a sliver of flint nestled behind her ribs.

Sensing the shift in her resolve, Julian stood before her. He tilted her chin up with the cool tip of the cane. Her eyes, previously glazed or squeezed shut, were now open. They tracked him. They held something in their depth beyond reflexive tears.

“Hm…is that defiance I see in those eyes, Detective?” His voice was almost giddy with excitement and hunger, a child who’d seen a new toy light up. “After all this, you still have a little spark left in the box? I thought we’d doused it.”

Evelyn simply smiled as she cleaned Diaz’s most recent wound, a shallow burn on her ribcage from the heated rod. She dabbed at it with a wet cloth, her touch chillingly gentle. She leaned close, her curls brushing Izzy’s cheek, and spoke softly, as if sharing a secret.

“You shouldn’t have done that, Izzy,” Evelyn said. The casual use of her nickname was a violation. “That spark? It’s the only thing we needed to see. Now we know exactly how to fan it into a proper fire.”

Evelyn’s words hung in the chemically-scented air, a promise that froze the flint behind Izzy’s ribs. Julian’s royal blue eyes, fixed on Izzy’s defiant gaze, dilated with a hunger that was wholly primitive. He nodded slowly, a smile touching his lips that had nothing to do with pleasure and everything to do with possession.

“You’re right, Mistress,” he said, his voice a low thrum. “Time to stoke the flames.”

He moved with a sudden, violent certainty. His hands, which had been tracing idle patterns of threat, now became instruments of pure force. He grabbed a fistful of Izzy’s tangled hair, wrenching her head back at a painful angle from the table. Her neck tendons stood out, straining. A thin cry escaped her throat, the sound swallowed by the room’s dense silence.

With his other hand, he tore open the fly of his slacks. He freed himself, his cock springing out, thick and heavy and already gleaming with intent. It was an obscene assertion of power, a blunt instrument meant for breaking more than pleasure.

“Open your eyes, Detective,” Julian commanded, his breath coming faster. “Watch this. This is the truth you were so desperate to find.”

Izzy squeezed her eyes shut, turning her face away, but he yanked her head back harder. The leather cuff bit into her wrist as she tried to twist. “Look at it,” he snarled.

She opened her eyes. The sight of him, so close, so brutally exposed, was a violation that seared her. Evelyn watched from just beyond the pool of light, her head tilted in professional
