Chapter 2: Building Tension
Meghan's breath hitched as the horse leaned into her touch even further. An electricity pulsed between them that sent her pulse racing. The couple approaching them seemed not to notice, or perhaps they chose to be discreet but the idea of them watching only served to heighten Meghan's excitement.
"I'm Jake," the man introduced himself, his eyes twinkling in amusement as he glanced between Meghan and the horse.
"Meghan," she replied softly, becoming aware of how flushed she must look.
A smile teased the corners of Jake's mouth as if he had caught a whiff of her secret.
"And this lovely creature is—?" Jake inquired, raising a curious eyebrow while motioning towards the horse.
A jolt of electricity zipped up Meghan's spine and sparked a warmth she couldn't ignore. "Oh, I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself properly," she whispered with a slight giggle. As if enjoying the attention, the horse nuzzled closer, imploring Meghan to continue stroking his velvet neck.
