Chapter 3: Open Channel Humiliation
The weigh station was a concrete slab lit by a single, buzzing sodium light that turned everything the color of old bruises. Earl’s rig was the only one parked, a hulking shadow against the void of Iowa cornfields. He sat in the driver’s seat, engine off, listening to the tick of cooling metal. The silence was a physical thing, pressing in. It was full of her smile from the highway, that hollow, knowing curve of her lips.
He’d cleaned up at the last stop. Shaved, sort of. Changed his shirt. The act felt stupid, like dressing for a funeral you weren’t invited to. He’d driven here on a hunch, a bleak gamble that the empty state scale would be a place she’d recognize. A private piece of nowhere.
An hour passed. The coffee in his thermos was sludge. He was about to fire up the diesel and admit defeat when a pair of low beams washed over his mirrors. A car. It rolled slowly past the scale, pulled into the far end of the lot, and stopped. Engine off. Lights killed.
It was the ’78 Chevy.
He didn’t move. He watched the driver’s side door open. India stepped out, alone. She walked toward his truck, not hesitating, her figure a swaying cutout against the yellow light. She wore a simple summer dress, flimsy cotton, and it fluttered around her knees. No jacket. She stopped beside his passenger door, looked up at him through the glass. She didn’t smile.
He hit the unlock. The clunk was loud in the quiet.
She climbed in, bringing the scent of night air and a faint, faded perfume. She closed the door. The cab felt smaller, charged.
“Figured you’d be here,” she said, her voice calm. “Knew you followed us off the highway.”
Earl grunted. “Where’s your... where’s Matt?”
“Motel. Thirty miles back. He’s editing.” She said it like someone stating the weather.
“Editing.”
“The video. From the convoy. He likes to get the cuts right.” She looked straight ahead, out the windshield at the dark fields. “Told him I needed air. To walk. He gave me the keys.”
“He let you go.”
“He knows.” She turned her head, finally looked at him. Her eyes were deep, unreadable pools in the sickly light. “He knows what I need. What I come for.”
Earl’s throat felt tight. “And what’s that?”
She didn’t answer with words. Instead, she shifted on the seat, hiking up the hem of her dress. She wasn’t wearing anything underneath. The dark thatch of her pubic hair was visible, her thighs pale against the dark vinyl. She leaned back, spread her legs, and placed her feet on the dashboard. The position was obscenely open, vulnerable. An offering.
“You watched,” she stated. “On the highway.”
“Yeah.”
“Did you like it?”
He wanted to say no. The word stuck behind his teeth. “It was a fucking spectacle.”
“That’s not what I asked.” Her voice was a low murmur. “Did it get you hard, Earl? Watching three men use me like a piss-trough? Listening to me beg for it?”
He slammed his hand on the steering wheel. “Goddamn it, girl. Don’t.”
“Why?” She smiled then, but it wasn’t the empty one from before. This was sharp, challenging. “You think you’re better than them? You think what you want is cleaner?” She reached down, parted her own lips with two fingers. She was already wet, glistening. “You’re the one who made me say the words first. In your bunk. You planted the seed.”
The raw truth of it punched the air from his lungs. He was hard, achingly so, trapped in his jeans. He was dirty, he was mean, and she saw right through to the rotten core of it. She wasn’t a victim. She was a mirror.
“You want it rough,” he growled, the words ripped from somewhere deep and festering. “You want it mean. You wanna be told what you are.”
“Yes.” Her breath hitched. “Tell me.”
He unbuckled his belt, yanked his jeans and boxers down to his thighs. His cock sprang free, thick and ruddy and desperate. He didn’t touch it. He leaned over the console, his face inches from hers. The smell of her arousal, musky and deep, filled his head.
“You’re a fucking nigger cunt,” he hissed, the old poison flowing sweet and easy. “A hole for white men to dump their load in. That what you are?”
Her eyes fluttered closed. “Yes.”
“Say it.”
“I’m a nigger cunt,” she whispered, the words dripping from her like honey. “Just a hole.”
He didn’t kiss her. He grabbed her hips, dragged her toward him across the seat until her ass was on the edge, her legs splayed wide over the console. He positioned himself, the broad head of his cock pressing against her soaked entrance. He looked down at where they joined, at his own hairy stomach, at her dark curls, at the obscene, glistening proof of her want.
He shoved forward, burying himself in one brutal, deep stroke.
She cried out, a sharp, gasping sound that was pure pleasure. Her back arched, her hands scrabbling at the dashboard for purchase. She was impossibly tight, hot, clenching around him like a fist.
“Fuck,” he grunted, the sheer sensation almost too much. He pulled back and drove in again, setting a punishing rhythm. The truck cab rocked slightly on its suspension. The only sounds were their ragged breathing, the wet slap of skin on skin, the creak of the seat.
He fucked her with a kind of furious, confused rage. He hated her submission. He hated his own need for it. He hated the world that made this seem like the only honest thing left. Each thrust was a punctuation to the chaos in his head.
“You take it,” he snarled, his hands digging bruises into her thighs. “You take this old white trash cock, you black bitch.”
“Yours,” she moaned, her head thrown back. “It’s yours. Breed your nigger slut. Fill me up.”
Her words, echoing his own filth back at him, pushed him over the edge. His climax ripped through him, a convulsive, shameful wave. He slammed into her one last time, deep, holding himself there as he pulsed, jet after hot jet spilling into her. He saw stars, his vision whiting out at the edges.
He collapsed forward, his forehead against the cool dashboard next to her hip, spent.
For a long minute, there was only the sound of their breathing. Then, slowly, she moved. She wriggled out from under him, his softened cock slipping from her with a wet sound. She didn’t clean herself up. She sat up, adjusted her dress, which was now crumpled and damp.
Earl pulled his pants up, not looking at her. The shame was back, colder now, a layer of grime over his skin.
She reached over, picked up the CB radio handset from its cradle. She clicked it on. The speaker hissed with static. She keyed the mic.
“Breaker one-nine,” she said, her voice scratchy but clear. “Any cowboys out there on the I-80 westbound side, come on.”
Earl stared at her. “What the hell are you doing?”
She ignored him. The radio crackled. A voice, male, fuzzy with distance, came back. “Go for Mud Duck.”
She keyed the mic again, her eyes locked on Earl’s. “This is… this is Loaded Angel, parked at the Maxton scale. Just got my black box thoroughly inspected.” She let go of the button, let the static hiss. Then she keyed it again, leaning into the mic, her voice dropping to a husky, performative whisper. “Inspector had a real short, thick tool. Made me beg for his white compliance sticker.”
A different voice, sharper, cut through the static. “That you, sweetcheeks? Saw your show on the highway earlier. Sounded like you were enjoying your audit.”
India smiled, a real, dark smile. She keyed the mic. “Loved every penalty. He’s right here. Still dripping. Wants to know if any other units need a… leveling.”
Earl listened, numb, as a few other voices, chuckling, lewd, chimed in on the channel. They knew her. They’d shared her. This was a game, a broadcast, and he was just the latest piece of equipment.
She placed the handset back in the cradle, cutting off a crude joke about manifold pressure. The cab was silent again.
She turned to him. “He’ll be done editing soon. He’ll want to see the footage from the weigh station. Thinks the neon light through the windshield makes a good effect.” She opened the passenger door. The dome light clicked on, harsh and unforgiving.
“So that’s it,” Earl said, his voice rough. “I’m just another scene.”
She paused, one foot on the gravel. She looked back at him, her expression unreadable once more. “You wanted to see what I am,” she said softly. “Now you know. It’s all I am.”
She closed the door gently. The light went out. He watched her walk back to the Chevy, her dress a pale ghost in the dark. She got in, started the engine, and drove away without looking back.
Earl sat in the dark, the smell of sex and diesel and his own self-loathing thick in the air. The CB radio crackled with another voice, asking if Loaded Angel was still in the area. He reached over, slowly, and turned the squelch knob until the voices died, leaving only a hollow, empty silence. He was just another truck in the night. And she was a story on the wind, already moving on to the next listener.
