A steamy camping trip. Out in the bush a group of friends are around the fire. When someone suggests a sexy game to play. The pov character is Brandon, he is married to Gabby. Gabby’s sister Karina is there with her financè Angelo. Raquel(who is the cousin of Gabby and Karina) is there with her Financè Zane. And Raquel’s sister Andreia is there with her boyfriend Matthew.

Chapter 2: The Unspoken Trade

Gabby didn’t blink. “I dare you to take Matthew into the tent.” Her voice was ice. “For five minutes. Same rules.”

The target shifted with brutal precision. Andreia’s flirtatious mask shattered. “What? No! Gabby, come on!”

Matthew looked like he’d been shoved. “Me? Why?” His eyes darted to Andreia, then to the ground.

“It’s not your turn to question,” Gabby stated, her gaze never leaving Raquel. “You wanted fluid. It’s fluid. You kissed my husband. You sent me in with hers. Now you go in with his.” She flicked a glance at Andreia. “Fair’s fair.”

Raquel absorbed this. A faint spark of respect, or perhaps merely recognition of a worthy opponent, lit in her eyes. She hadn’t anticipated Gabby’s countermove to be so strategically vicious. It wasn’t about Raquel and Brandon anymore. It was about sowing equal discord.

“You’re unbelievable,” Zane muttered, rubbing his forehead.

“I accept,” Raquel said, standing. She brushed nonexistent dirt from her jeans. “Matthew?”

“Raquel, don’t you dare,” Andreia hissed, surging to her feet. She grabbed Matthew’s arm. “He doesn’t have to.”

“The dare is for me, Andreia,” Raquel said calmly. “He’s the accessory. The rule is no veto power. For anyone.” She extended a hand toward Matthew. It wasn’t a request.

Matthew looked trapped. He was a quiet man in a storm of loud personalities. He looked at Andreia’s furious, possessive grip, then at Raquel’s poised, inevitable expectation. He stood up, gently peeling Andreia’s fingers from his arm. “It’s five minutes,” he mumbled.

Andreia recoiled as if slapped. She watched, jaw clenched, as Raquel led Matthew the few feet to the tent. Raquel unzipped it with a calm, smooth motion, holding the flap open for him. Before ducking inside, she looked back at Gabby and offered a small, chilling nod. The message was clear: Well played.

The flap closed. The silence outside was absolute, broken only by the miserable crackle of the dying fire.

Andreia spun on Gabby. “What is wrong with you?”

“She started it,” Gabby replied, but the heat was gone from her voice. She sounded exhausted. She finally looked at Brandon. Her eyes were hollow. He wanted to go to her, but the space between them felt like a canyon.

Angelo leaned over, poking the fire aggressively. “This is the stupidest night of my life.”

“Start the count,” Zane said to no one in particular. He was staring at the tent, his own five minutes with Gabby clearly replaying in his mind. His knuckles were white around his beer bottle.

Karina, her voice small, began. “One… two…”

Inside the tent, it was pitch black and close. The scent of nylon, damp earth, and the lingering perfume from Gabby’s and Zane’s tense occupancy hung in the air. Matthew stood stiffly just inside the entrance.

“You can sit,” Raquel’s voice came from the darkness. He heard the rustle of a sleeping bag as she settled.

He lowered himself onto the cool, folded edge of a groundsheet, keeping as much distance as possible. The darkness was a physical pressure. “This is so messed up,” he whispered.

“It is,” Raquel agreed. Her voice was closer than he expected. He could hear her breathing, slow and even. “But it’s also very clear.”

“What’s clear?”

“What everyone wants. And what they’re afraid of.” She shifted. Her knee brushed against his leg in the blackness, and he jerked. “Andreia wants attention but can’t handle not being the center. Zane wants control but just lost it. Gabby wants her husband to look at her the way he just looked at me.”

Matthew swallowed. “And Brandon?”

Raquel was quiet for a moment. “Brandon wants permission to be someone else. Just for a night.” Her tone was analytical, dissecting. “What do you want, Matthew?”

He hadn’t expected the question. The truthful answer, the one about feeling invisible, about Andreia’s performative affection, stuck in his throat. “I want to go back to the city,” he said instead.

Raquel gave a soft, knowing hum. “Liar.” She didn’t push it. The tent held its silence, but it was a different silence than the one she’d shared with Zane. This was observational, a scientist collecting data.

Outside, Karina’s count hit sixty. “Time!” Andreia shouted immediately, her voice raw.

The zipper rasped. Matthew emerged first, blinking in the low firelight, his face a portrait of relief. Raquel followed, seamless and unruffled. She looked at Andreia. “Nothing happened,” she stated plainly.

“Like hell nothing happened!” Andreia snapped.

“We talked,” Matthew said, walking back to his seat. He didn’t touch her.

“About what?”

“Stuff,” he said, a rare edge of finality in his voice. Andreia stared at him, a new and terrifying insecurity dawning in her eyes. The game had broken something in her most predictable dynamic.

Raquel took her seat. “My turn continues.” She surveyed the wreckage. Karina was curled in on herself. Angelo was sullen. Zane was drinking steadily. Gabby and Brandon were planets orbiting separate suns. Andreia was fuming.

Her eyes landed on Karina. “Karina. Truth or dare?”

Karina flinched. “I… I don’t know.”

“You have to pick,” Raquel said, not unkindly.

“Truth,” Karina whispered, hiding behind her glasses.

Raquel leaned forward, the fire carving shadows into her sharp features. “Earlier, Matthew admitted to a fantasy about someone here. My question is: who was your ‘once’? Who have you fantasized about that isn’t Angelo?”

It was a scalpel, inserted into the very fissure Gabby had exposed. Karina went white. Angelo’s head swiveled toward her, his expression unreadable.

“Raquel, that’s cruel,” Gabby said, but it was weak protest. The machine was in motion.

“Answer,” Angelo said, his voice low and strange.

Tears welled in Karina’s eyes. Her gaze, panicked and helpless, flickered for a millisecond across the circle. It didn’t land on Matthew, or Zane. It touched, with the barest brush of shame, on Brandon. Then she squeezed her eyes shut. “No one. It’s no one.”

It was a pathetic, transparent lie. The unclaimed confession thickened the air. Brandon felt a hot, unwelcome jolt. Karina? His quiet, bespectacled sister-in-law with the dimples? The fantasy expanded, unbidden.

Angelo let out a sharp, disgusted laugh. “Great. Just great.” He stood up, kicking his chair back. “I’m going to bed. This game is for children.”

“Angelo, wait—” Karina pleaded, standing.

“No. You stay. Have your fun.” He stomped off toward the smaller tent, unzipping it violently and disappearing inside. The sound of the zipper closing was terribly final.

Karina stood alone, trembling. The group watched her, a specimen under glass. Her turn was next, but she seemed broken, the mechanism of the game grinding inside her.

She looked at Brandon, her eyes wide and swimming with a pain that wasn’t just about Angelo. It was about exposure. Then her gaze shifted to Gabby, who looked back with dawning, horrified sympathy.

With a look of renewed determination, Karina eyed the circle ready to take her turn.

With a look of renewed determination, Karina eyed the circle ready to take her turn. The tears were gone, wiped away with a quick, angry swipe of her hand. Something in her had solidified, hardened by Angelo’s public abandonment and her own humiliation.

“Raquel,” Karina said, her voice steadier than it had been all night. “Truth or dare?”

Raquel, who had been watching Angelo’s exit with detached interest, turned her sharp gaze back. She assessed the new steel in Karina’s posture. “Dare,” she said, a faint smile playing on her lips. She was inviting the blow.

Karina didn’t hesitate. “I dare you to let Brandon kiss your neck. For thirty seconds. Where we can all see it.” She pushed her glasses up, a defiant gesture. “You like being the center of things. Be the center of that.”

The air turned to glass. Gabby made a small, pained sound. Brandon’s whole body went taut. This wasn’t a vague transfer of clothing or a closed tent. This was a specific, intimate act, a direct escalation from Raquel’s own kiss, choreographed for an audience.

Zane stood up slowly. “No.”

“It’s my dare, Zane,” Karina shot back, a surprising venom in her voice. “You don’t get a vote. She picked dare. No veto power. That’s the rule your fiancée loves so much.”

Raquel looked from Karina’s flushed face to Brandon’s frozen one. Her expression was unreadable, but a pulse beat visibly in her throat. She nodded once, a crisp, accepting motion. She shifted on her log, turning her body slightly toward Brandon, an implicit invitation.

All the fantasy crumbled under the weight of reality. This was no private, lustful thought. This was a public execution of his marriage, with Karina wielding the axe. Gabby was staring at the ground, her shoulders hunched as if against a physical wind.

“Brandon,” Raquel said, her voice a low prompt.

He moved mechanically. The pine needles crunched under his boots as he closed the short distance. He knelt in front of her, the damp earth seeping through his jeans. The fire painted one side of her face in gold, leaving the other in deep shadow. He could see the faint dusting of freckles across her nose.

He leaned in. The scent of her was immediate—clean skin, woodsmoke, and that relentless, subtle perfume. He hesitated, his lips a breath from her skin.

“The clock starts now,” Karina announced, her voice cold. She was holding her phone, the screen glowing.

Brandon closed his eyes. He pressed his lips against the side of Raquel’s neck, just below her jaw. Her skin was warm, incredibly soft. He felt her swallow. His hand came up, seemingly of its own volition, to cradle the back of her head, his fingers tangling in the cool silk of her dark hair. It was an echo of their kiss, but somehow more profound.

He didn’t move. He just held his mouth there, feeling the rhythm of her pulse against his lips. It was fast. A current of energy, sharp and forbidden, arced between the point of contact and his core. The clearing was utterly silent. He heard the rustle of Zane shifting his weight. He heard Gabby’s quick, shallow breathing.

“Fifteen seconds,” Karina said.

Raquel’s hand came up and rested lightly on his shoulder. Her fingers tightened, just for a second, not pushing him away but pulling him in. A shudder ran through him. The pretense of a dare evaporated. This was a connection, naked and undeniable.

“Time,” Karina said, flatly.

Brandon pulled back as if shocked. His lips felt branded. Raquel’s eyes were open, watching him, her pupils wide and dark in the firelight. She looked utterly composed, but her breath was slightly uneven.

He stood up, his legs unsteady, and returned to his seat. He couldn’t look at Gabby. The space between them was now infinite.

“My turn,” Raquel said, her voice only a little husky. She smoothed her hair. Her gaze swept over Gabby’s curled form, over Zane’s rigid fury, and landed on Andreia, who was watching with a kind of hungry devastation. “Andreia. Truth or dare?”

Andreia jerked, startled from her misery. “What? Why me?”

“Because it’s my turn. Choose.”

Andreia glanced at Matthew, who was studying his hands. She looked vulnerable, her earlier bravado completely stripped away. “Truth,” she whispered, choosing the shield she’d once mocked.

Raquel leaned forward, the fire catching the clever, ruthless light in her eyes. “When you made Matthew confess his fantasy earlier, you were hoping he’d say it was you, weren’t you? You needed that reassurance. My question is: why do you need a game to feel wanted by your own boyfriend?”

It was a surgical strike, exposing the raw nerve beneath all the performance. Andreia’s face crumpled. Matthew finally looked up, his expression one of stunned guilt.

“That’s not a question,” Andreia choked out. “That’s just you being a bitch.”

“It’s the only question that matters,” Raquel replied calmly. “Answer it.”

Andreia wrapped her arms around herself. The silence stretched. Matthew opened his mouth, but no sound came out. The truth of Raquel’s words hung in the air, more damning than any confession.

“Forget it,” Andreia muttered, refusing to answer.

“That’s a forfeit,” Zane said suddenly, his voice harsh. He was looking at Raquel, but his anger seemed to encompass the whole night. “The rule is you answer. If you don’t, there’s a consequence. That was the twist. What’s the consequence?”

All eyes turned to Andreia, the initiator. She wiped her nose. “The person who forfeits… has to take a dare from the group. A collective one. Everyone agrees.”

A new, darker energy sparked. Collective punishment. Mob rule.

“Fine,” Zane said, his gaze locking onto Brandon. “Then we all dare Andreia to go into the tent with Brandon. Right now. For five minutes.”

Gabby’s head snapped up. “No.”

“You don’t get a veto either,” Zane fired back. “It’s a group dare. We all have to agree. Who agrees?” He raised his hand. His eyes challenged the circle.

Raquel, after a moment of considering this new vector, raised her hand slowly, a ghost of a smile on her face. Karina, flushed with a power she’d never wielded, raised hers. Matthew looked sick, but after a long pause, he gave a tiny, almost imperceptible nod.

“Matthew!” Andreia gasped.

“It’s just a game,” he mumbled, parroting her earlier words back at her with devastating emptiness.

Brandon looked at Gabby. Her eyes were wide, pleading. He felt the pull of the group, the terrifying momentum of the game. His raised his hand.

Gabby made a sound like she’d been punched. She stood up, her chair scraping loud against a rock. “I’m going to bed.” She turned and walked quickly toward the tent Angelo had entered, seeking the only remaining shelter.

No one stopped her. The decision was made. Four hands were raised. Andreia looked at Brandon, her earlier flirtation replaced by a kind of terrified resignation. She was a pawn now, just like him.

“Five minutes,” Zane said, the words thick with grim satisfaction. “Start the count when they go in.”

Brandon stood. His body felt like it belonged to someone else. He walked to the tent, held the flap open. Andreia walked past him, her shoulders slumped. He followed her into the dark.

The zipper closed, sealing them in a profound blackness punctuated by the dim, orange glow of the fire through the nylon. They could hear Karina’s voice, thin and strained, begin the count outside. “One… two…”

Andreia sank onto a sleeping bag. “This is so fucked up,” she whispered.

Brandon remained standing, his arms crossed. The space was claustrophobic, smelling of sweat and anxiety. “Yeah.”

“They’re breaking us. On purpose.” She sounded young, and suddenly not flirtatious at all. Just scared. “Why are we letting them?”

The count outside reached ten. Heavy footsteps passed close to the tent—someone, probably Zane, pacing.

Brandon had no answer. The game had become a gravity well, and they were all caught in its pull, orbiting a dark, shared star of confession and retaliation. Andreia’s hand found his in the dark. Her fingers were cold. She didn’t pull him down. She just held on, a prisoner seeking a moment of contact in the dark.

“Thirty-one… thirty-two…”

He didn’t let go.

GAME CONTINUES.

GAME CONTINUES.

The count was a muffled drumbeat through the tent fabric. “Forty-three… forty-four…” Karina’s voice, thin and mechanical, seeped inside.

Andreia’s hand was still clamped around his, her grip surprisingly strong. Her breathing hitched in the dark. “They’re all just waiting for us to fail,” she whispered. The word ‘fail’ hung there. It meant so many things.

Brandon said nothing. He watched the vague orange glow of the firelight shifting on the nylon above them. He thought of Gabby, alone in the other tent. He thought of Raquel’s neck under his lips, the precise, claiming pressure of her mouth on his. This was different. This was Andreia trembling.

“Fifty-eight… fifty-nine…”

Her hand pulled his. He let himself be drawn down, sinking onto the sleeping bag beside her. The synthetic fabric rustled loudly. He could smell her perfume now, something sweet and tropical, clashing with the damp earth smell.

“Sixty!” Karina’s final number was a sharp shout.

Outside, no one called ‘time’. No one unzipped the flap. The silence was a thicker, more waiting thing.

Andreia turned her face toward him in the absolute dark. He felt her breath on his cheek. “They won’t call us,” she murmured. Her voice was close, a secret shaped in the black air between them. “They want to see what we do with the extra time.”

A current, low and dangerous, switched on in his gut. It was the same current from Raquel’s kiss, but muddier, fueled by a different kind of desperation. Andreia’s fingers trailed up his arm, tentative, then more sure.

“This is what they want,” he said, his own voice a rough scrape.

“I don’t care what they want anymore,” she breathed out. It sounded like a confession. Her other hand found his face, her palm cool against his jaw. She guided him.

He didn’t resist.

BRANDON KISSES ANDREIA.

It wasn’t like Raquel’s. There was no control, no calculated claiming. This was all hungry, searching pressure. Her mouth was soft and open immediately, tasting of stolen whiskey and a sharp, floral lip gloss. She made a small, desperate sound against his lips and climbed halfway into his lap, her hands frantic in his hair.

He kissed her back. His hands found her hips, holding her there. It was a release valve for the entire night’s pent-up chaos—Gabby’s hurt, Raquel’s games, Zane’s rage. It was selfish and heat and motion in the dark. Her tank top rode up, and the feel of her warm skin under his palms was a jolt.

It was over as fast as it ignited. She pulled back, gasping, her forehead resting against his. They stayed like that, breathing each other’s air, the reality of the action crashing down between them. He could feel her heart hammering against his chest.

“Oh, god,” she whispered, the words full of horror and a wild kind of thrill.

A flashlight beam suddenly speared the darkness, blinding them. The zipper ripped open.

Zane stood silhouetted in the opening, the flashlight in his hand pointed directly at them. He took in the scene: Andreia in Brandon’s lap, their disheveled hair, their parted lips. A grim, satisfied smirk spread across his face. He didn’t say a word.

He just turned and called over his shoulder, “Time’s up. They’re coming out.”

Andreia scrambled off Brandon, yanking her tank top down. They emerged into the firelight one after the other, blinking like animals flushed from a burrow. The entire group was standing now, a semicircle of judges.

Matthew’s face was ashen. He looked at Andreia’s swollen mouth, then turned and walked quickly toward the tree line, vanishing into the deeper shadows.

Gabby was back. She must have come out of Angelo’s tent. She stood beside Raquel, of all people. The two women looked at Brandon with identical, unreadable expressions. It was worse than anger. It was a cold, clinical assessment.

“Nothing happened,” Andreia blurted, her voice too high.

Zane barked a laugh. “Sure.”

Raquel just watched Brandon, her head tilted slightly. She had gotten exactly what she’d wanted from the moment she proposed the swap. The dominoes were falling perfectly for her.

The circle was down to the core now: Brandon, Gabby, Raquel, Zane, Andreia and Karina, who looked faintly ill. The fire was embers.

Gabby took a step forward. She looked at Brandon, then at Raquel. “Your game broke my sister’s relationship. It broke Andreia’s. It broke us.” Her voice was quiet, terrifyingly steady. “But it’s not over, is it?”

“No,” Raquel said. “It’s my turn. The dare to Andreia was a group one. My original turn still stands.” She smiled, a thin, cutting thing. “Gabby. Truth or dare? For real this time.”
