Chapter 5: Aftermath

The steam hung in the bathroom like a ghost, clinging to the cool surfaces as the water in the tub slowly lost its warmth. Teresa was a weight against him, boneless and spent, her breathing gradually deepening from ragged gasps to something closer to sleep. Patrick held her, his own muscles aching with fatigue and tension, watching the goosebumps rise once more on her arms as the air cooled. The heat was a temporary reprieve; the deep, cellular chill of her ordeal was still in her bones.

He couldn’t let her sleep here. Not slumped in a tepid bath, not with the chemical engine inside her merely idling, already beginning its slow, inevitable turn towards ignition again. He shifted, the water sloshing softly. “Teresa.”

A soft, incoherent murmur was his only reply. Her head lolled against his shoulder.

“Come on.” He moved her gently, disengaging their bodies. She whimpered, a faint sound of protest, as the support of him was taken away. Standing in the tub, water sheeting off him, he bent and hooked his arms under her knees and shoulders again. He lifted her from the water. She was heavier like this, limp and saturated, but he cradled her against his chest, her wet skin slick against his.

He carried her from the steam-cloaked bathroom into the cooler air of the hallway. His bare feet left wet prints on the hardwood floor. In her bedroom, the gray light of dawn was beginning to define the shapes of her sparse furniture. He went to the bed. The sheets were still twisted from before, damp in patches from their earlier sweat. He laid her down on them. She curled onto her side instinctively, seeking warmth that wasn’t there.

Patrick stood over her for a moment, a stark silhouette in the dim room. Water dripped from his hair onto his shoulders. She looked small. Broken. The fierce CBI agent, the woman who had stood as his unyielding anchor for a decade, was reduced to this shuddering creature of need. A cold fury settled in his gut, directed at the unseen hands that had done this to her. But fury was a luxury he couldn’t afford. Not now.

He knew the rhythm now. The reprieves were shortening, the demands growing more specific, more cruel. The shower wand had been a brutal improvisation, shocking her system into a swift, violent release. But it was a surface fix. The deeper hunger remained. It needed to be met, fully and completely, one more time. He needed to drain the well, if only to buy them a few hours of peace, a few hours for her to truly rest.

He knelt on the bed beside her. The mattress dipped under his weight. He placed a hand on her hip, her skin cool and damp under his palm. “Teresa. Look at me.”

Her eyelashes fluttered. Her eyes opened, hazy and unfocused. They held a depth of exhaustion that went beyond the physical, into a place of profound spiritual fatigue.

“Once more,” he said, his voice low but insistent. “I need you to give it to me once more. Then you can sleep.”

She blinked slowly, a tear escaping to mix with the bathwater on her temple. She gave the barest nod.

He guided her onto her back. She went without resistance, her limbs pliant. He didn’t speak again. Words were useless now. He moved down the bed, settling between her legs. He hooked his hands under her knees, lifting them, opening her to the weak dawn light filtering through the blinds. She was exposed, glistening, swollen from overuse. The sight sent a fresh, guilty jolt of arousal through him, a base reaction he despised himself for even as his body responded.

He lowered his head.

His mouth, when it found her, wasn’t gentle. There was no slow seduction, no tender exploration. He went straight for the heart of her, his tongue laying a broad, flat stroke against her sodden flesh. She jerked, a gasp sharp in the quiet room. He pressed deeper, his nose buried in the coarse curls, his tongue delving into her entrance. The taste of her was overwhelming—a sharp, musky tang layered over the clean scent of soap from the bath. It was the taste of her desperation, her suffering, and her absolute surrender.

He ate her like a man starved, with a single-minded intensity that bordered on violence. His tongue speared inside her, fucking her with short, firm thrusts, mapping the hot, velvety clutch of her inner walls. He could feel the subtle, fluttering spasms that signaled the rising tide. He circled her clit with the stiffened point of his tongue, flicking it rapidly, then sucking the hardened nub between his lips, applying a ruthless, steady pressure.

“Patrick… God… fuck…” Her voice was a broken thread. Her hands came down, not to push him away, but to fist in his damp hair, holding him to her. Her hips lifted off the bed, seeking more, driving herself against his face.

He grunted, the sound vibrating through her sensitive flesh, and doubled his efforts. One hand slid from under her knee, his fingers finding her soaking wet entrance. He pushed two fingers inside her, curling them upwards, seeking that rough patch of flesh he knew was there. He found it, rubbing it firmly in time with the punishing rhythm of his tongue on her clit.

The dual assault was brutal, efficient. He was a mechanic working on a broken machine, using his tools with deliberate, exacting force. Her breathing hitched, became a series of sharp, rhythmic pants. The sounds she made were raw, stripped of any pretense—grunts, choked curses, sobs that seemed ripped from her diaphragm.

“Don’t stop, don’t you fucking stop, right there, yes, there!” she babbled, her body bowing into a tense arc.

He didn’t stop. His jaw ached. His neck was cramping. He ignored it. He focused on the feedback from her body, the way her inner muscles clenched around his fingers, the way her clit throbbed under his tongue. He was chasing the peak, ruthlessly, pushing her towards it with every skill he possessed.

It built faster than he expected, a sudden, tectonic pressure. Her thighs clamped around his head, trembling violently. Her heels dug into the small of his back. A guttural, animal sound tore from her throat, raw and ripped from a place beyond shame or dignity.

She came with a violence that shook the bed.

Her orgasm wasn’t a wave; it was a detonation. Her entire body seized, rigid for a long, suspended moment before a series of convulsive spasms racked her. Her cunt clamped down on his fingers with a force that was almost painful, milking them in rapid, pulsing contractions. A flood of wet heat coated his chin, his mouth, as she lost all control. She screamed, a long, ragged sound that faded into a whimper, then into a choked, silent sob.

He stayed with her, gentling his mouth, licking her through the aftershocks until her grip on his hair went slack and her body sank back into the mattress, utterly, completely spent. He slowly withdrew his fingers, then lifted his head.

She was motionless. Her eyes were closed, tears streaking clean lines through the residual dampness on her temples. Her chest rose and fell in deep, even rhythms. She was unconscious, not asleep—a complete systemic shutdown.

He wiped his mouth on the back of his hand, the taste of her overwhelming. He sat back on his heels, his own body humming with an exhausted, adrenalized tension. He looked at her, naked and ravaged on the ruined sheets, and felt a love so fierce it was indistinguishable from pain.

He covered her with the twisted comforter, tucking it around her shoulders. Then he stood, his joints protesting. He walked naked back to the bathroom. The shopping bag he’d dropped was still on the floor. He picked it up, the plastic crackling. Inside were the essentials: water, electrolyte drinks, simple food. And at the bottom, wrapped in discreet pharmacy paper, were the other items: three powerful vibrators one for each major erogenous zone, lubricant, a box of condoms. Tools for the siege.

He took a long, cold drink of water straight from a bottle, then splashed his face. He looked at his reflection in the clearing mirror. The man staring back had dark circles under haunted eyes, a stubbled jaw, and the faint, glistening evidence of Teresa’s climax on his skin. He looked like a man who had crossed a line from which there was no return.

He walked back to the bedroom, pulling on a pair of his own boxer briefs from his discarded bag. He didn’t lie down beside her. Instead, he pulled the desk chair over to the side of the bed and sat down. He watched her sleep, her face finally relaxed, the lines of torment smoothed away. He watched the slow rise and fall of the comforter.

He would watch over her. He would let her sleep. And when the need woke her again, as it inevitably would, he would be here. With his hands, his mouth, the toys in the bag, whatever it took. He settled into the chair, the dawn finally giving way to a pale, cloudy morning, and began his vigil. The war was far from over. This was merely the first, fragile ceasefire.

He must have dozed, his chin hitting his chest, because the next sound was a shattering electronic trill that snapped through the room like a gunshot. Teresa’s phone on the nightstand. Patrick jolted upright, the chair groaning. Across the room, Teresa startled awake, her body stiffening before her eyes even opened, a conditioned response to that particular ringtone—work.

She fumbled for the device, her movements drugged and clumsy, and answered it. “Lisbon.”

Her voice was a graveled ruin. Patrick watched her, his own senses sharpening. He could hear the faint, tinny squawk of a male voice from the receiver but not the words. He saw her blink, trying to orient herself. She was swimming up through layers of exhaustion and chemical residue to grasp at normalcy.

“Coming in today?” she repeated slowly, buying time.

Patrick sharply shook his head no, his eyes locked on hers.

She swallowed, her free hand plucking at the damp comforter. “No,” she stammered. “No, I’m… still sick.”

A brief pause. More tinny squawking. “Okay. I’ll call tomorrow,” the voice said, perfunctory. Cho. It was definitely Cho.

She ended the call, the phone slipping from her fingers to thud on the carpet. The silence it left was instantly filled by another ring. Patrick’s phone, buzzing in the pocket of his discarded pants. He stood, his joints protesting, and crossed to retrieve it. “Jane.” He listened, his gaze never leaving Teresa as she pushed back the covers and shuffled, naked and unsteady, towards the bathroom.

He gave terse, non-committal answers into his phone. “No, I’m tied up. A personal matter. Indefinitely.” A pause. “I’m sure you can handle it, Rigsby. Gotta go now.” He hung up.

In the bathroom, Teresa mechanically brushed her teeth, the mint a shocking clean against the memory of other tastes. She splashed water on her face, staring at the hollow-eyed stranger in the mirror. The reflection was pale, marked by faint bruises on her hips and the inner skin of her thighs where his hands had been. She looked used. Getting dressed felt like a bizarre pantomime. What was the point of underwear when he would just have to take them off? What was the point of clothes at all when her body was a lit fuse?

She stood frozen before her dresser, a pair of clean cotton panties in her hand. Patrick walked past her on his way to the toilet, giving her a brief, assessing glance. “You’ll probably feel better if you get dressed,” he said, his voice practical, as if suggesting she take an aspirin.

The casual, domestic absurdity of it almost broke her. She dropped the underwear back in the drawer. The burning under her skin, a low-grade hum since she’d awoken, was intensifying. It was a different quality now—a deep, muscular ache, a hollowness that wanted to be filled by weight and pressure, not just friction. She pulled on a pair of soft black yoga pants and a loose gray t-shirt, going committal. The brush of the fabric against her bare, sensitive skin was a constant, teasing provocation.

It took every ounce of her shredded resolve to walk the short distance to the kitchen. Her body was a cacophony of confused signals. A gnawing emptiness in her stomach warred with the throbbing, wet emptiness between her legs. Each step sent a jolt through her. On the kitchen table, beside a bag of supplies, stood a bottled meal replacement shake. Vanilla. He must have put it there. She grabbed it, cracked the seal, and drank it down in several long, desperate gulps. The cool, sweet liquid did nothing to quench the other thirst.

As she lowered the bottle, a tremor started in her hands. It traveled up her arms, into her shoulders. The buzz was becoming a roar. Her focus, so hard-won for the thirty seconds it took to drink, shattered. The world telescoped down to the ache in her core, to the slick heat already seeping through the thin fabric of her pants. The plastic bottle clattered onto the table.

She backed away from it, from the normalcy it represented, until her shoulders hit the cool wall of the hallway. There was nowhere else to go. The despair rose in her throat, hot and suffocating. Her legs gave out. She slid down the wall, the rough texture of the plaster catching on her t-shirt, until she was crumpled on the floor.

The tears came then. Not the frantic tears of orgasm, but slow, silent wells of sheer defeat. Exhaustion so profound it felt like dying. Humiliation at the raw, animal need that owned her. And beneath it, a sharp, clean feeling of violation—not by him, but by the thing inside her, the foreign command that had turned her own body into a prison and a weapon against her will. A sob hitched in her chest. She pressed the back of her hand hard against her mouth, biting the skin to muffle the sound, her shoulders shaking.

She didn't hear him approach. She only sensed him when his shadow fell over her. He knelt but he didn’t touch her. He just waited, a silent presence in the dim hallway light.

“I can’t,” she whispered against her hand, the words thick and wet. “I can’t keep doing this.”

“You don’t have to do anything,” he said, his voice quiet but clear. “Just trust me.”

She lowered her hand, looking at him through a blur of tears. His face was grim, determined, utterly focused. He held up a small, oblong object from the pharmacy bag. It was black, discreet, with a sleek silicone tip. A vibrator. Seeing it, a fresh wave of shame washed over her, but it was immediately swamped by a darker, more compelling surge of sheer want. Her cunt clenched, a deep, involuntary spasm.

“Patrick…”

“Just trust me,” he repeated. He reached for the waistband of her yoga pants. She didn’t help, but she didn’t resist as he tugged them down her thighs, just enough to expose her. The cool air on her wet flesh was a shock. He didn’t remove her clothes completely. This wasn’t about nudity.

He clicked a button on the sleek, black device. A low, resonant hum filled the narrow hallway, a sound that seemed to vibrate in her bones before it ever touched her skin. She stared, transfixed, at the gently throbbing tip.

“Trust me,” he said again, the words barely audible over the hum.

He guided the vibrator down, the cool silicone brushing her inner thigh. Her breath hitched. He bypassed her clit, slick and swollen, and positioned the rounded head directly at her entrance. Her body, traitorously eager, was already soaked. It eased inside her with barely any resistance, a smooth, invasive fullness that was entirely different from his flesh. The internal vibration was instantaneous.

It wasn't a localized sensation. It was a wave of sheer, unadulterated arousal that washed through her entire pelvic floor, resonating up into her gut and down her trembling thighs. It wasn't pleasure, not exactly. It was a direct, electrical command to her nervous system, a brutal shortcut that bypassed her fractured mind and went straight to the chemical screaming in her blood. A choked, guttural moan was ripped from her throat. Her head thumped back against the wall.

Patrick watched her face contort, her jaw slack, her eyes glazing over as the device did its work deep inside her. He released his grip, leaving it lodged within her. He then sat beside her on the hard floor, his back against the same wall. He pulled her to him, maneuvering her boneless form so her back rested against his chest, her legs still splayed, the vibrator obscenely visible where it disappeared into her. The hum was a palpable thing between them.

“Just let it happen,” he murmured into her hair, his arms a loose cage around her torso.

But her body, obedient to the deeper programming, needed more. The internal vibration alone wasn't enough to crest the peak. It stoked the fire but didn't quench it. She began to gasp, short, sharp inhalations, as her hips rocked. She was grinding against nothing, her ass sliding against his lap, searching for a pressure, a friction, a completion the toy couldn't provide on its own. The helpless, frustrated movements were a brutal parody of need.

"Please," she whimpered, the word cracking. "It's not... I can't..."

Patrick understood. He shifted his weight, his arm tightening around her waist to still her futile motion. With his free hand, he reached between her legs, his fingers finding the base of the vibrator where it met her body. His thumb found the button again, through the silicone. He pressed it, cycling through the settings.

The hum shifted, deepened, intensified into a aggressive, jackhammer buzz. The change was profound. A violent shudder racked her frame."Fuck!" she screamed, her hands flying back to claw at his thighs.

He didn't stop. He pressed the heel of his palm firmly against the base of the toy, holding it deep inside her, anchoring it against the frantic, grinding push of her hips. Now, when she moved, she ground herself against the solid pressure of his hand and the furious vibration within. The dual sensation—deep internal buzzing and the hard, external counter-pressure—created a devastating fulcrum.

"That's it," he urged, his voice rough against her ear. "Use it. Take what you need. Come on, Teresa. Just fucking come."

His permission, his crude encouragement, shattered the last of her fragile control. The whimpering became a continuous, desperate chant of his name. "Patrick, Patrick, Patrick..." It was a prayer and a curse. Her hips pistoned against his palm, driving the vibrator deeper, her movements becoming jagged, frantic. The sound of the buzzing device was loud in the quiet hallway, mixing with her ragged cries and the slick, wet sound of her own body working against it.

He felt the exact moment the tension in her belly snapped taut. Her chanting stopped, replaced by a sharp, silent inhalation that locked her lungs. Her back arched brutally against his chest, every muscle in her body going rigid as stone.

Then she fell over the edge.

Her climax was a silent, seismic convulsion. No scream. Just a hard, voeless expulsion of air as her cunt clamped viciously around the buzzing intrusion, a series of brutal, rhythmic spasms that seemed to wring her empty from the inside out. Her body shook against his, a leaf in a gale, her fingers digging into his legs hard enough to bruise. He kept his palm pressed hard, holding the vibrator in place, letting it pulse within her as she was torn apart by it. The vibrations traveled through his hand, up his arm.

The tremors subsided slowly, leaving her a hollowed shell, limp and utterly silent in his arms. The only sound was the persistent, obscene buzz. Patrick reached between her legs again, his movements slow. He withdrew the vibrator. It slid free with a wet sound, still humming. He clicked it off.

The sudden silence was absolute, heavier than the noise had been. Teresa slumped against him, her head lolling on his shoulder. Her breath was shallow, barely there. He could feel the faint, aftershock tremors still coursing through her muscles.

He sat there on the hard floor, her dead weight against him, the damp spot on the front of his trousers cooling rapidly. The hallway smelled of sex, and electricity, and sweat, and defeat. He looked down at the top of her head, her hair a tangled mess. A profound, weary sadness settled in his bones, colder than the floor beneath him. This was what victory looked like. A temporary silence bought with a buzzing piece of plastic, a woman broken into a million pieces on her own hallway floor. He closed his eyes, listening to her breathe, and waited for the next war to begin. The reprieve, he knew, would be measured in minutes.
