Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Amanda sat at her kitchen table, her back against the wall, her legs stretched out in front of her. She watched the clock tick slowly" as it always did, and wondered what to do with her life. The dishes didn't get done, the fridge was empty, and there was a mountain of laundry waiting to be done.She was supposed to go out with her sister Kate for her twenty-first birthday, but she had a hard time getting out of bed let alone getting ready. It was easier to stay in bed and pretend that her life was normal than it was to face the world.
"Hey sis, wanna play a game?I got this new board game from my friend Max. He's a real sweetheart. I'm gonna go make us some drinks."
She smiled despite the fact that her heart was breaking. This was her last night with her sister before they went their separate ways. Tonight was about them, not about her getting over her ex-girlfriend Stacey."No thank you, I don't want to play a game."
"Come on, it'll be fun. You have to at least try it before you knock it off the table." Kate pleaded.
"Okay, okay, I give in. One drink and I call it a night.I'll let you win just so you can feel good about yourself."
They played Monopoly, and while the board game itself wasn't that exciting it was the time spent together that mattered. After all, what was a game if not time spent together? And what was a sister if not another version of you with a different skin color?They played for a few hours before calling it. After a few drinks, they were both a little intoxicated. This is the last time I get to spend with you before you go off to college. I want you to know that I love you and I always will no matter where you go or what you do. You can count on me, I promise."Are you sure you're ready to make that leap?" Kate asked her sister after they'd finished playing.
"I have no choice I replied. 'I have to go. My parents are going to be worried about me and I can hardly avoid them for the next four years. Plus, I need to get out there and meet people."Well, why don't we make this game more interesting," Kate asked her sister.
"What did you have in mind," Amanda replied.
"After every turn, we have to do a dare." Dares' seemed to be the theme of the night. First it was Kate who insisted on playing a game that required them to drink when they made a turn.After a few turns, the dares started to get more interesting.
"I dare you to take off your shirt," Kate said. Now you have to do it or I will' was her sister's reply. And so it was that I took off my shirt and threw it on the ground next to my chair."Dare!" I said, and took a drink. I dared my sister to do the same thing.
After a few rounds back and forth, the sisters were in nothing but their underwear. Oh, I love this game!" Kate exclaimed as she stripped off her leggings and threw them on the ground. "Let’s play another round before we go get our drinks.I dare you to kiss me."
Amanda felt her cheeks flush. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she watched her sister move towards her. Finally, she stopped her game and stood up. She crossed her arms and waited for her sister to make the first move.Kate looked back at her and smiled. "You know I love you, right?" she said.
